FPL GW14 Preview & Key Dilemmas Answered
1) Should we buy/sell/hold Liverpool players ahead of FPL GW14?
Liverpool has been inconsistent this season, with only four wins in the first eleven games in the Premier League. With a place in the knockout stages secured in the Champions League, the focus is now on improving their domestic league form. They have a great fixture against Leeds this week, and that throws a massive dilemma for FPL managers: should we buy/hold/sell Liverpool players this week?
If you retain the premium midfield spot, you have options like Salah and KDB. Many managers have KDB right now, and getting Salah looks like a slightly differential move. The case for Salah gets even more vital if you are planning to go against Haaland and captain a differential option.
I understand Salah has struggled to get goals this season, and his goal threat has reduced because of playing wide. Interestingly, Liverpool played in a diamond formation against Ajax. Salah struggled to adapt initially but returned with a goal and assisted in rounding up a good performance. Nobody knows whether that will continue, but he is up against Leeds, who have improved slightly in defence but still concede a fair amount of goals. If you don’t have him, you can make a case to get him on your FPL team this week.
I am now coming to other options like Trent Alexander-Arnold. Two of the following three fixtures have clean sheet potential, and buying Trent right now looks like a good call. Leeds and Southampton aren’t the tightest defences, and attacking returns are also possible. In case you own him already, I would suggest you hold.
If you don’t have enough money, then Robertson is also an option in defence. He has immense potential, but there is always a chance of an odd benching and Trent, to me, looks a bit safer in that regard.
It is okay to jump on Nunez too. He is not a priority move if you already have a set forward line, but there is haul potential with Nunez. Suppose you have any fires to put out, then prioritise those first. If not, then going for Nunez looks like the move this week. Some rotation with Firmino can happen, but both can start together, too, something that we have already seen this season.
To sum it up, whether you are on a Wildcard or planning a regular transfer, there is an opportunity to do something different and chase possible hauls with Liverpool options. These players also come with a slight risk, as Liverpool has genuinely struggled to win, and any of their big hitters can blank even against easier opposition.
If you are a slightly risk-taking manager, these moves are for you. If not, then holding KDB or even players like Jesus/Toney, or Mitrovic is fine this week.

2) Which differentials to go for right now?
With the World Cup only a few weeks away, the Premier League is heading into a break, with FPL also taking a backseat. It allows us to attack the next few weeks and target some differential picks from GW14-16.
Talking about premium teams first, we have the likes of Arsenal and Man Utd having decent fixtures, and there are a few players you can target from them.
If you are looking at Arsenal, there is value in defence. With Gabriel and Saliba costing more than £5m, you can look at Ben White as a defensive option. He is still £4.6m and only owned by 7% of managers. He is a nailed pick in the Arsenal backline, and the next few fixtures look suitable for clean sheets.
If you want to look elsewhere for defenders, then Man Utd is another team that many FPL managers are ignoring now. Diogo Dalot is an excellent pick at £4.7m and has already got 100,000+ new managers transferring him this week. Man United have shown defensive resilience in recent games. Even though Varane will likely miss the next few games because of injury, Dalot is a significant differential to jump on.
Everton put in a brilliant performance last week against Crystal Palace. Alex Iwobi, in particular, was brilliant in midfield, picking up two assists. He may not be the most explosive option, but he is nailed in the Everton setup and has done well in his new midfield role.
Bruno Fernandes is another decent differential for your FPL team if you can go a bit premium in midfield. He only has three attacking returns all season, but his recent attacking numbers look promising. Agreed, he is a risky punt but another sure-shot starter in the Man United lineup, which makes the attack tick.
Another option in attack but a forward is Callum Wilson from Newcastle. He has started the last five games for Newcastle, getting two goals and an assist. The only worry with him is his fitness and the fact that he is pretty injury-prone. Nevertheless, a great punt in attack if you want to do things differently.

3) Who are the best budget midfielders to target from FPL GW14-16?
Quite a few managers are in the market for a budget midfielder, and there are a lot of picks to choose from and gain an advantage. Hands down, Arsenal’s Gabriel Martinelli is still the best option if you are looking for a cheaper midfield option.
If you own him, you can go in a few different directions. Miguel Almirón from Newcastle is in the form of his life, scoring five goals in his last five appearances and is the 2nd highest points scoring midfielder in the game. The following two games are Aston Villa (H) and Southampton (A), and there is a high chance of more potential hauls coming soon.
A lot safer and more dependable can be Wilfried Zaha. We know he is Palace’s leading man going forward and will be highly involved whenever the team attacks. The returns are not as consistent as Almiron, but he is the sixth most-owned midfielder in the game. That shows FPL managers have faith in him, and the fixtures look good from an attacking point of view.
If you want to go for a wild punt, then Gordon from Everton is right up there. He is the more direct and explosive option to go for from the Everton team. He plays a very attacking role and has looked like Everton’s best attacker all season. He is owned by less than 3% ownership at the moment and is a pretty good differential option if you are okay with trying something different.
Options from a more premium team include Marcus Rashford from Man Utd. He plays for a premium team and has been a bit unfortunate with FPL hauls in recent times. Slightly better finishing from Rashford, and we are talking about a great value option in midfield. Don’t get me wrong, he is still valuable, especially as he plays an out-of-position role. If you trust the Man Utd attack and don’t want to spend a lot of money, he is a great pick.
My ranking for all budget MIDs Ahead of FPL Gameweek 14
- Martinelli
- Almiron
- Zaha
- Gordon
- Rashford

4) What to do with Erling Haaland ahead of FPL GW14?
Erling Haaland has been exceptional this season. He has scored 17 goals in 11 appearances and is a locked option in all teams. One thing to note is that he was subbed at half-time of Manchester City’s goalless draw with Borussia Dortmund.
Pep’s comment ahead of FPL GW14
There are doubts about Haaland’s fitness status at the moment, but Pep did not rule him out, so he’s still on a decent hold this week.
I don’t think it is worth taking him out if it is just a week’s rest. You can switch to Harry Kane for one week and maybe captain him against Bournemouth. Suppose you have a Liverpool player like Mohamed Salah or Nunez or even Arsenal attackers like Jesus, Saka or Martinelli. In that case, you can easily captain one of these options for GW14 if you feel Haaland wouldn’t start.
I will also avoid taking him out and spreading the cash too much, as that will make getting him back a lot more complicated. He is an essential pick if he is fit, especially with his current form and the fact that most people will end up captaining him, irrespective of the fixture.
Taking out Haaland looks like an additional transfer right now, as you will want him back in your team as soon as he is fit. You will also end up losing value on the player, as he is now £12.2m in the game. It is way more than the £11.5m he started with at the beginning of the PL season.
That will be all from this week. Do let me know what you think about these dilemmas. Also, tell me in the comments or drop me a DM on Instagram/Twitter if I have missed out on anything specific.
All the best for FPL Gameweek 14, and I will see you all very soon!
