Best Rodrigo Replacements in FPL Ahead of FPL GW6

FPL GW6 Best Rodrigo Replacements

Rodrigo Moreno got subbed off in GW5 vs Everton in just 30 minutes due to a dislocated shoulder. He is owned by 27.1% of managers as he is still the highest point scoring midfielder in FPL this season. Marsch revealed that he will be out for 3-4 weeks and many managers are rightly looking for a replacement ahead of GW6. Ahead of FPL GW6, we look at the best Rodrigo replacements in detail with stats, average positions, upcoming fixtures, and detailed analysis.

“Injuries – Rodrigo. As good as it can be when it pops out. Does not need surgery. Three to four weeks calm down, maybe longer or shorter. Feels good, feels confident he will be ready fairly soon. Targeting after the international break.”

Wilfried Zaha(£7.1)

Best Rodrigo Replacements in FPL- Zaha

Zaha has had a great start to Premier League this season with 4 goals from 4 starts having missed the GW4 fixture vs Manchester City. Even though Palace have a tricky schedule- Newcastle(A), Manchester United(H), Brighton(A), Chelsea(H) in the next 4 games, Zaha is mostly involved when Palace score. He was involved in 16(14 goals, 2 assists) out of 50 goals Palace scored last season which is a great number. Zaha is hungry for goals and wins and it was very evident from the disappointment he expressed in the post match interview of the 1-1 draw vs Brentford in GW4.

Zaha stats among midfielders this season(despite missing one game)

  • Expected goals- 2.87(1st)
  • Big chances- 5(1st)
  • Shots inside the box-10(Joint 4th)

One key factor which makes Zaha a great pick is that he is 100% rotation free as Palace are not involved in Europe. This is not case with other players in this price range like Martinelli, Gundogan, Silva, etc who might be rested for a game due to the tight schedule. If you have the budget for Zaha, he is one of the best replacements for Rodrigo ahead of FPL GW6 still at under 10% ownership.

Mitrovic(£6.7)

Best Rodrigo Replacements in FPL- Mitrovic

Don’t be surprised on seeing a striker name in a Rodrigo replacement article. This is not a direct move- Downgrading Rodrigo to £4.5/4.4 midfielder and Upgrading your £4.5 bench striker to Mitrovic.

Mitrovic has returned in all Gameweeks so far this season except for the GW2 game vs Wolves where he missed a penalty. Mitrovic’s next two fixtures- Tottenham(A), Chelsea(H) look tough on paper but it is to remembered that Mitrovic has scored 2 goals vs Liverpool and 1 goal vs Arsenal in “tough games” this season.

Mitrovic stats this season(among Forwards):

  • Shots inside the box- 19(2nd)
  • Big chances- 8(2nd)
  • Expected Goals- 3.74(2nd)

Only one who is ahead of him in all these metrics is obviously Haaland.

Pro Tip-

If you are not still convinced on Mitrovic due to the fixtures and have extra money in the bank, you can get Toney till GW7(vs Leeds, Southampton) and then go back to Mitrovic for the nice fixture run from GW8(vs NFO, NEW, WHU, BOU, AVL, LEE, EVE).

Pascal Gross(£5.9)

FPL GW6 Rodrigo Replacements- Pascal Gross

Gross is the second highest scoring midfielder this season(37 points) only behind Rodrigo(38 points). Who would have thought this at the start of the season? He has been so good that he has risen in price 4 times this season. Among midfielders at 8.0 and less, Gross is Top for Expected Assists and 5th for Expected Goals which suggests that his returns so far is not a fluke.

Targeting the fixtures-

Next three fixtures for Gross reads- Leicester(H), Bournemouth(A), Palace(H). Let us take a look at the defensive rank of these teams in the league.

Team/Stat MetricGW6 vs LeicesterGW7 vs BournemouthGW8 vs Crystal Palace
Goals Conceded18th20th17th
Big chances Conceded15th15th20th
Expected Goals Conceded12th19th15th

In the next 3 games, they face sides who are among the poor defensive teams in the league at the moment as suggested by the above numbers. Fixtures+ Form is on Gross side which means he can be a direct Rodrigo replacement ahead of FPL GW6.

Gundogan(£7.6)

Best FPL Rodrigo Replacements- Gundogan

Gundogan returned in all three games from GW2-GW4(2 goals, 1 assist) before having an unlucky blank in the 6-0 win vs Forest. He has taken up some nice attacking positions this season- More attacking positions than wingers Foden, Mahrez. He also cleverly makes use of the space created by Haaland who draws the center backs towards him. Gundogan will also be on corners and free kicks when KDB is not on the pitch as seen in GW5.

One main issue with Gundogan is the “Pep Roulette” due to the mid-week Champions League games. He can be rested for one more game before GW8, but if you ignore that he is a good long term pick.

Sinisterra(£6.5)

FPL GW6 Rodrigo Replacements- Sinisterra

Sinisterra got his full league start in GW5 against Everton and returned with a goal and 10 points in just 63 minutes. Rodrigo’s replacement can be a direct replacement from Leeds considering how good they are in attack this season. Next 2 games are against Brentford and Forest who rank 15th and 20th worst for shots conceded this season.

If you are lacking funds, Aaronson is a good pick as well with 1 goal, 1 assist from the last 3 games. Aaronson’s attacking/assist potential should go up with the return of Bamford.

Gibbs-White(£5.5)

FPL GW6 Rodrigo Replacements- Gibbs White

Gibbs White should be the pick if you want to have fun in FPL and planning to Wildcard in the next few weeks. He didn’t return in his first 2 starts for Forest in GW4, GW5 which was against tough teams in City and Spurs, but played in the front two and looked good. Next four fixtures are against Bournemouth, Leeds, Fulham, Leicester who rank 16th, 7th, 18th, 17th for Big chances conceded in the League.

One major con of going with Gibbs White is that his minutes are not assured with Forest having some many players who can play in the front two- Dennis, Johnson, Awoniyi, Lingard. This means he could be easily benched for a game in the next 3-4 GWs or taken off early.

Conclusion

If you are looking for a direct replacement, Zaha(with extra money in the bank) and Gross stand out. Zaha should be the best pick long term. If you are a manager who loves to attack the fixtures(next 3 games), Gross is probably the top bet. You could go Gross and then switch to Zaha later if you are planning on a GW8/GW9 Wildcard.

Toney/Mitrovic route is more than a good shout if you have two FTS/looking to change the structure of the team and want to go with three forwards.

Sinisterra/Aaronson and Gibbs White are both good differential picks which could go either way to consider if you feel your team is too template and want to break away from it. Both are under 1% ownership!

Other players to consider- Saint-Maximin(if fit) and Ward Prowse are seasoned and reliable FPL players who nice fixtures for the next 3 weeks and can be good options.
