Best UCL Fantasy Differentials to Consider for MD1 | 22/23 Season

Welcome to the UCL Fantasy MD1 Differentials Blog, first of all, can I just say how excited I am for Champions League & UCL Fantasy to be back for the new season, it’s been almost 3.5 months since that epic final between Real Madrid & Liverpool which eventually saw Real Madrid win their 14th UCL title.

In UCL Fantasy terms from a personal perspective, I was also quite content with how things finished up last year, I ended up with an Overall Rank of 756 in the World, 3rd in Germany and 2nd in the Milan Fan League.

This will be my 5th Season of playing UCL Fantasy and i can say I have never been more excited to get stuck into it.

Just like last year, I will be doing a UCL Fantasy Differentials article for each match day where the sole focus will be to find those less than 10% owned hidden gems who can propel you to stand out and gain significant rank.

Lastly, before I get into the meat of it, I am super thankful to everyone who supported my articles by giving them a read, I have loved each and every feedback and the support is one of the major reasons I am back again this year, so Thank You readers.

In this article, I will talk about the best UCL Fantasy MD1 Differentials who are less than 10% owned on the game currently and could act has template breakers and help you start the UCL Fantasy season on a high.

UCL Fantasy MD1 Differentials (<10% TSB)

Harry Kane~Tottenham Hotspur, 10.5M, TSB: 3%

UCL Fantasy MD1 Kane
Kane vs Marseille could be a nice fixture to target

Harry Kane just went past Sergio Agüero and Andy Cole in the Premier League All time leading goal scorers list with 188 goals, with only Rooney and Shearer to beat in the list.

Kane has again had a good start to his Premier League campaign this year with 5xG in 6 games at an xG of 4.4 and xA of 1.2 which suggests that he is in good form at the moment.

Antonio Conte will really want to start with a win in the Champions League when Marseille coming calling on MD1.

From a UCL Fantasy perspective, Kane at the moment is only owned by 3% managers as most of the crowd preferring the likes of Benzema/Haaland/Lewandowski which again presents a good opportunity if 1-2 of them blank.

Harry Kane is the cheapest of the premium forwards at 10.5M and he could really do well against Marseille given how they press leaving gaps at the back to run in behind.

Kane always has penalties in his locker and given his recent liking to being the playmaker, he could more than likely get assists as well!

Theo Hernandez~ AC Milan, 6M, TSB: 7%

UCL Fantasy MD1 Theo
Theo can run riot vs Salzburg in MD1

We all love an attacking left back or left wingback who can go on marauding runs into the opposition box throughout the 90 mins, get goals & assists, Theo Hernandez is exactly that.

Theo is arguably the best left-back in the world at the moment on current form and acts as one of major attacking sources in Stefano Pioli’s 4-2-3-1 Milan formation.

Hernandez was one of the major contributing factors to Milan winning the Scudetto last year, in 30 starts he managed 5xG & 5xA which makes it 1 goal contribution in every 3 games.

This year he already has 1xG which was from the penalty spot which suggests if Oliver Giroud is not on the pitch, Theo is the favoured option if Milan get a penalty, this adds another element to his attacking potential.

AC Milan play FC Salzburg in MD1 who are notoriously known for conceding goals especially from the left side.

At just 7% ownership Theo Hernandez is the go to option from AC Milan and given the opponents in the group he could be kept in your team for the entire group stages!

Pedro Gonçalves~Sporting Lisbon, 7.5M, TSB: 2%

UCL Fantasy MD1 Goncalves
Gonçalves is the focal point of Sporting’s attack

I must say, Pedro Gonçalves was 1 of my very few regrets from last year’s UCL Fantasy game, not owning him for his double 18 point hauls in MD3 & MD4 was hard to sit through.

Gonçalves is the focal point of Sporting Lisbon’s attack and everything goes pretty much through him, this season in 5 starts he has already amassed 3xG & 2xA respectively.

On current form, per 90 mins he is expected to get at least 1 attacking return each game which bodes well for him when he faces Frankfurt in MD1 of UCL.

Last season Pedro Gonçalves had 12xG & 11xA from 29 starts which included 4xG & 2xA in the Champions League.

Currently, Gonçalves is only owned by a mere 2% of UCL Fantasy managers and given that he is only 7.5M, he could be a great UCL Fantasy MD1 Differential.

Steven Bergwijn~Ajax Amsterdam, 7M, TSB: 2%

UCL Fantasy MD1 Bergwijn
Bergwijn is in fine form before MD1

It’s safe to say Steven Bergwijn has already had a better time at Ajax than even ever had at Tottenham.

Bergwign moved from Spurs to Ajax in the summer and so far it has been a great decision from him, he is exactly what Ajax were looking for in the attacking front.

In Eredivisie this season so far, Bergwijn has already notched up 6xG from just 5 starts including a spectacular hattrick in match day 2 vs Groningen.

Even though we only have data from 6 games, Bergwign boasts an impressive xG of 1.36 per 90 mins and thus looks to be in great form ahead of a home fixture vs Rangers in the Champions League.

He is currently only owned by 2% managers in UCL Fantasy and i feel he is being over-looked at the moment.

He comes in at just 7M in UCL Fantasy and can provide the perfect UCL Fantasy MD1 Differentials cover.

Gilberto~Benfica, 5M, TSB: 1%

 MD1 Gilberto
At 5M, Gilberto can prove to be good value vs Maccabi Haifa in MD1

Benfica have started their season in the best possible manner, winning the first 5 games in the Portuguese League keeping 3 clean sheets and conceding only 3 goals.

For MD 1 in UCL Fantasy they also have arguably the easiest fixture on paper playing Maccabi Haifa at home.

Gilberto is the starting right back who already has 1xG and takes up really high attacking positions on the pitch.

Another interesting stat i found was Gilberto currently boasts of 3.16 interceptions per 90 mins which means he could be a ball recovery merchant.

In Last year’s UCL Fantasy Gilberto ended up with 1xG and 49 ball recoveries which led to 13 extra points for him.

At just 5M and with ownership of only 1%, he could be a very good differential in MD 1.

Marco Reus~Borussia Dortmund, 7.5M, TSB: 4%

 MD1 Reus
Reus can deliver at home vs FC Copehagen in MD1

Personally, I have been a huge fan of Marco Reus for his loyalty to Dortmund and “Never Give Up” attitude given the injuries.

Reus himself has had a good start to Bundesliga this year with 2xG & 2xA in 5 starts in the CAM role, with an xG of 1.6 and xA of 1.6.

Per 90 mins Reus has an xG+xA of 0.45 which shows that whenever Dortmund score, he is usually involved more often than not. He also boasts of penalty duties which makes him more appealing.

On paper, Dortmund should easily win their game in MD1 vs FC Copenhagen and I expect Reus to play a big part in that.

At 7.5M, Reus is still only 4% owned which is kind of a surprise, if you are looking for one of the best UCL Fantasy MD1 Differentials, don’t look any further than Marco Reus.

Ferran Jutglà~Club Brugge, 5.5M, TSB:1%

MD1 Jutglà
Jutglà can be your cheap budget enabler for MD1

Let’s get into some really punty territory, I’ll be honest, I hadn’t heard of Ferran Jutglà before doing some research for the MD1 blog, but after reading up and watching some highlights of Club Brugge, I am impressed.

Jutglà moved from Barcelona B team to Club Brugge this summer in order to get more playing time.

In 7 starts for Club Brugge, Jutglà has 5xG & 3xA which is again quite impressive, overall has goal involvement of 1.34 per 90 mins.

Ferran Jutglá Heat Map
Ferran Jutglà heat map

Looking at his heat map, he looks like a player who wants the ball at this feet and even though he is traditionally a forward he drifts to the left side.

Bayern Leverkusen have been in dreadful form in the Bundesliga losing their first 3 games and I think Jutglà could do well against them in UCL Fantasy MD1.

He can definitely be considered as your cheap enabler at 5.5M and is only owned by 1% managers at the moment, another decent UCL Fantasy MD1 Differential.
