FPL Teams and Players to Target Between GW28 and GW30

We are approaching the final stretch of this FPL season and everyone is making a final push to finish the season with the highest rank possible. While the final few games will be important. The games between GW28 and GW 33 are also key. This season has been very unpredictable because of the spread of Covid side the clubs and among the players, This meant that a lot of games were rescheduled to a later date and they will be played between GW28 and GW33. 8 teams have a Double Game week 28 and another 6 have a game week 29. Newcastle United is the only team to play two games in both Game weeks. In this post, we shall look at teams to target for favorable fixtures, double game weeks, and navigate through the blank GW 30 (if you do not have a free hit).

Arsenal

Arsenal has performed better than most people expected them to after their first few games this season. Currently, they are favorites to finish in the top 4 behind Manchester City, Liverpool, and Chelsea. Apart from that Arsenal does not blank in GW30 and has a DGW29. There is also a small chance they play two games in GW28 but that is yet to be confirmed. If they do have a DGW29, they’ll be only the second team to play two games in both GW28 and GW29. Arsenal plays Watford in GW28 and Liverpool and Leicester City in DGW29. While the Watford game is where a lot of points can be scored, the Liverpool and Leicester games aren’t bad either.

Leicester is a team that is struggling in the defensive aspect of the game. There are very few teams in the Premier League that can unlock the Liverpool defense, luckily enough, Arsenal is definitely one of them. Even though Liverpool has kept a fair amount of clean sheets this season there is a stat that goes under the radar. They have the highest npxG/shot faced in the league with 0.12 npxG/shot faced.

Surprised? So were we.

This stat and the fact that they have kept so many clean-sheets points towards the fact that they do not concede many shots but when they do, those shots are from very dangerous areas. It is also worth noting that Arsenal has taken the fourth-most shots in the league *inserts shifty eyes emoji*. So while the difficult fixtures will repel FPL managers away from Arsenal assets, you should trust them to do well.

Bukayo Saka

FPL GW28 players to target ~ Saka

Bukayo Saka is perhaps their best player at the moment and is their most productive player alongside Emile Smith Rowe. The only reason Saka gets the upper hand is because of his superior expected stats and more offensive role in the system.

Bukayo Saka vs Emile Smith Rowe

  • Goals: 7 vs 9
  • Expected Goals: 4.6 vs 3.8
  • Assists: 4 vs 2
  • Expected Assists: 4.2 vs 1.9

Gabriel Martinelli was on a hot streak just a few weeks ago but has not scored a goal or assisted since GW18. If you already have him, holding onto him wouldn’t be a bad idea but do not get him in if you do not already own him.

Kieran Tierney

FPL GW28 players to target ~ Raphinha

If you are looking for a mid-priced defender to target the upcoming DGWs, Kieran Tierney is not a bad shout. Among the Arsenal defenders, Tierney probably has the highest ceiling for points because of his more offensive role. Takehiro Tomiyasu is expected to tuck in and play almost as a third center back while Gabriel’s most points apart from clean sheets come from set-pieces. Arsenal has the second-best xG conceded since January in the league only behind Chelsea. Which makes Arsenal defenders good assets too.

Aaron Ramsdale

Many managers will be looking to move away from David De Gea as the tougher games come by for Manchester United from GW28 and Aaron Ramsdale will be just the perfect replacement for him. As mentioned earlier, Arsenal has a respectable defensive record and is also in the mix to finish top 4. This means that they will try to limit the goals they concede considering a place in the top 4 is at stake. Arsenal has conceded the fourth-least shots in the league this season while also conceding the fifth least expected goals.

Aston Villa

Fixture ticker from FFScout

Aston Villa plays in BGW30 as well as has two games in DGW29. While Aston Villa has shown immense potential in Steven Gerrard’s first season at the club, it has been in isolated moments. They are yet to deliver consistent performances this season. This is one of the reasons very few assets from Villa are worth considering.

Jacob Ramsey

FPL GW28 players to target ~ Ramsey

Jacob Ramsey is enjoying a very successful campaign this season. He has scored 5 goals from midfield this season and seems to have developed an almost Lampard-like dimension to his game. His expected stats are decent but his overperformance in his expected stats is not sustainable. But at the price of 4.6m, he is still an absolute bargain. One can use him to free up funds or even just have him on the bench. He has accumulated an xG tally of 2.9 and an xA tally of 1.4.

Ollie Watkins

FPL GW28 players to target ~ Watkins

Ollie Watkins’ performances have been largely underwhelming compared to last season but he still has not done very bad this season either. He has 6 goals and an assist from an xG of 6.8 and an xA of 1.4. Although his goal against Brighton could be a turning point. He faces Southampton, Leeds, and West Ham United in the next three games. All teams that he can score against if he gets the chances. If you already own him, holding onto him for GW 28 is a good idea but getting him in for the DGW is something that has a certain level of risk but it just might pay off.

Leeds United

It has been a tough few days at Leeds United after Marcelo Bielsa departed the club after rough performances. He will be replaced by Jesse Marsch, a highly-rated coach from America who has seen success coaching the Austrian outfit, RB Salzburg. Even though his last job with RB Leipzig ended with him being sacked he still has the hunger to prove himself again, the experience learning from Ralf Ragnick, and the expertise from being a part of the Red Bull football set up to help him lead Leeds United to safety from relegation.

Raphinha

FPL GW28 players to target ~ Rpahinha

The only player worth considering from Leeds at the moment is Raphina. The Brazillian superstar has been famous in the FPL community ever since he secured a move to Leeds United. He has also been famous for scoring just single-digit FPL scores and rarely having a big haul for himself. But even after playing for an underperforming Leeds this season he has scored 9 goals and assisted 2 from an xG and xA of 7.4 and 4.9 respectively. He faces Leicester and Aston Villa in GW28 and Norwich in GW29. This favorable run of fixtures and the new coach boost could mean that we may see him secure big points in the next few games. Maybe even see him get a double-digit score for the first time this season.

Here’s a good read on Leeds under Marsch

Wolves

Fixture ticker from FFScout

Wolves have narrowly lost their last two games against West Ham and Arsenal but those games hardly reflect on how good they have been since the new year. The most interesting stat about Wolves that is going under the radar is the fact that they are yet to concede more than 2 goals in a game in all competitions this season, which indicates their defensive prowess. There have been criticisms of the team’s performances in front of the goal though. Owning Wolves’ defensive assets would be a smart move to get some consistent clean sheet points over the next few weeks.

Jose Sa

FPL GW28 players to target ~ Sa

As mentioned earlier, many managers would want to move away from De Gea because of his tough run of fixtures over the next few weeks. While Ramsdale is an excellent and cheaper option comparatively, Sa is just worth the extra funds for a few reasons. First of all, He has more favorable fixtures as compared to Ramsdale. Secondly, Jose Sa faces more shots than Ramsdale but not as many to jeopardize his clean sheets in any way.

Romain Saiss

Romain Saiss is among the few players in the Wolves’ defense that has his spot in the lineup nailed. He is also the defender that carries the biggest goal-scoring threat for Wolves from the set pieces. He is the most expensive way to cover the Wolves’ defense but can outscore all other defenders.

Conor Coady

Conor Coady captains the side and starts every game unless injured. He has scored as many goals as Saiss this season despite the Morrocan’s reputation to carry a set-piece threat. Although since Saiss returned from AFCON, Coady has been playing centrally which directly affects his potential for any assists.

Max Kilman

FPL GW28 players to target ~ Kilman

The third nailed on defender in the Wolves’ defense and the cheapest to cover wolves’ defense. Go for Kilman if you’re running low on funds!

Romain Saiss vs Conor Coady vs Max Kilman

  • Appearances (Starts): 24(24) vs 26(26) vs 26(26)
  • Goals: 2 vs 2 vs 1
  • Expected Goals: 2.3 vs 1.6 vs 1.0
  • FPL Assists: 0 vs 0 vs 1
  • Expected Assists: 0.2 vs 0 vs 0

Tottenham Hotspurs

Fixture ticker from FFScout

After a disappointing loss to Championship outfit, Middlesbrough in the FA Cup fixture midweek, Spurs have been added to the list of teams that’ll have a DGW29 and still play in BGW30. Spurs, Like Arsenal, will be in the mix for the fourth UCL spot for next season and will make a push in the coming weeks. Spurs have a balanced team that does well defensively and have finally started scoring many goals too.

Heung-Min Son

FPL GW28 players to target ~ Son

Heung-Min Son has been the primary offensive output for Spurs this season finding the =e back of the net 10 times while laying on 7 more goals for his teammates. He has accumulated an xG tally of 8.4 and an xA tally of 6.2 indicating a sustainable overperformance in his expected statistics.

Harry Kane

FPL GW28 players to target ~ Kane

Heung-Min Son’s partner in crime, Harry Kane hasn’t quite reached the heights that he did last season but has recently seemed to have found his groove again after scoring twice against defending Champions and current league leaders, Manchester City and getting a goal and assist in the 4-0 hammering of Leeds United. He has scored 8 goals from an xG tally of 11.3 and has assisted a further 3 goals from an xA tally of 4.9. This underperformance is enough to put off many but the recent positive change in form for both him and Spurs might finally have him start firing like before

Eric Dier

Eric Dier has perhaps been one of the best budget enablers in the game for a while now. At 4.6m, he always starts when available and plays for a pretty solid Spurs defense. The offensive side of his game still leaves a lot to be desired from an FPL perspective but at the price he is a decent option to get consistent points from clean sheets.
