FPL GW28 Saturday Fixture Wise Review

LEICESTER v LEEDS UNITED

  • 1st game in charge for Jesse Marsch and he would have been encouraged of what he saw in terms of creating chances but would be ruing that those chances were not taken

  • Scoring right in the first 10 mins and then with a late surge in the first half with another goal had Villa in the driving seat at half-time
  • As has been seen in the past, Stevie G’s Villa doesn’t sit back on their laurels early in the game.
  • They came out with the same fervor and finished the game in the 1st nine minutes of the second half by scoring another two
  • Southampton had no other option but to attack for the remainder of the game

  • Two penalty goals in the first 15 mins of the second half took the life away from the game for Norwich
NORWICH v BRENTFORD ~ xGI ~ FPL GW28
  • Ivan Toney in his first start in 5 games scored his 1st hat-trick of the season. He stands a goal away from entering the double-digit club of goal-scorers

WOLVES v PALACE

  • Wolves got a shot in the arm to keep their European dreams alive as they showed defensive frailties throughout the game
  • They have now lost 4 of their last 6 games

Below is a depiction of the attacking threat of both teams.

Wolves vs Palace ~ attacking threat ~ FPL GW28
  • By conceding a goal in the 19’, Wolves were on the back-foot considering they haven’t set the world on fire when it comes to scoring goals, and guess what – Jimenez was on the bench yet again
  • A rare error from Kilman – who has been outstanding for Wolves this season – resulted in a penalty which Zaha slotted in perfectly
Wolves vs Palace ~ xGI ~ FPL GW28
Wolves vs Palace ~ Pen Touches ~ FPL GW28
  • Wolves did look threatening in the 2nd half but as we have seen earlier in the season, they lack a potent force upfront
Wolves vs Palace ~ Big Chances ~ FPL GW28

BURNLEY v CHELSEA

Below is a depiction of the attacking threat of both teams.

(Home team is in green)

  • At half-time, Sean Dyche was scratching his bald head and trying to fathom how his team wasn’t a goal up
  • Burnley had the higher number of shots, higher expected goal number, and big chances
  • Tuchel realized this and made Reece James and Kante bomb forward to put intense pressure on Burnley defenders
  • As a result, the away team saw themselves 3-0 up just after ten mins into the second half after which the only Burnley personnel who showed any kind of fighting spirit was Sean Dyche from the sidelines
  • Havertz scored a goal after 500+ mins when his last goal also came against Burnley in November
  • Reece James, yet again, rewarded his FPL managers with an explosive return of 18 points in 69 minutes. He now has 5 goals and 6 assists to his name

NEWCASTLE v BRIGHTON

  • The vibe around St. James Park has changed from a somber depressing tone to one of positivity in the last couple of months.
  • Eddie Howe’s men started the game on the 5th gear before Brighton could even bling their eyes.
  • They were up by two goals by the 14’

LIVERPOOL v WEST HAM UNITED

  • A game where both teams would be ruing the conversion % of the chances they created
  • Liverpool expectedly created the bulk of the chances in the 1st half including Salah’s 1 v 1 situation with Fabianski
  • TAA, in his 11th assist, found Mane in the six-yard box where the Senegalese pounced on the ball much quicker than Dawson

Liverpool vs West Ham attacking threat ~ FPL GW28
  • The visitors finished the 1st half very well with a golden chance to equalize through Fornals when he scooped the ball over Allison only for Trent to clear the ball right from the goal-line
  • 1-0 is never a comfortable scoreline at Anfield for the home team. Fans take the nervousness around it especially when the visiting team is as talented as West Ham
  • The Hammers had a few chances right in the end too but they had forgotten to wear their scoring shoes.
  • Liverpool was fortunate to not drop points in the game
Liverpool vs West Ham ~ Pen Touches ~ FPL GW28

  • This was Salah’s fifth blank only in the games he has started in Premier League
  • Mane is now jointly tied with Jota at 12 goals behind the league leader Salah (19)
