FPL GW28 Wildcard Defenders to Target

Trent Alexander-Arnold (£8.5) or Andrew Robertson (£7.2)

FPL GW28 Wildcard Defenders to Target ~ Trent and Robbo
First the basics!

Liverpool TAA is the highest owned and the highest-scoring defender in the league with 162 pts including 2G, 10A and 13CS. Considering Liverpool have a DGW in GW29, TAA must be the #1 defender in your team sheet irrespective of the fixtures. If you are already owning him, you should stick with him because selling him will reduce your overall team value. If you are running low on funds, you can make a sideways move to Andrew Robertson. Robbo has been in red-hot form contributing to 49 points in the last 5 starts over TAA’s 30 points. Robbo has higher xG (0.4 vs 0.3) and xA (1.8 vs 1.6) than TAA during the same time. Simply get Robbo if you are currently not owning TAA.

Reece James (£6.2)

FPL GW28 Wildcard Defenders to Target ~ Reece James

Chelsea have one of the best runs of fixtures with 40%+ odds for a CS in all the games till GW36. Chelsea also now have a DGW in GW28 against Burnley (A) and Norwich (A) as per the latest FA cup results. Chelsea has 45% odds to keep a CS this GW against Burnley and 52% in the next game against Newcastle (H). To make things sweeter, Chelsea has 2 games in hand. James is fit again and came on to replace injured Azpilicueta in the 57th minute and played for 63 minutes in the EFL Cup final against Liverpool. He is the most attacking option for Chelsea having already contributed to 4G and 5A. The only downside can be the game-time. If he starts and plays even 60+ minutes in each game, he should be the automatic choice.

Antonio Rudiger (£6.1)

rudiger fpl

Chelsea Rudiger has been Mr. Dependable for Chelsea and their most consistent starter this season. He has missed only one game out of the 24. Chelsea has one of the meanest defenses where they have conceded only 18 goals which is only 1 more than league leaders Manchester City. To add to the appeal, Rudiger is a dangerous threat from set-pieces having 2G and 3A to his name. Doubling up on Chelsea’s defenders can be a great option in the long run if you have enough starters / using a Free Hit in GW30.

Romain Saiss (£5.0) or Max Kilman (£4.6)

FPL GW28 Wildcard Defenders to Target ~ Saiss and Kilman

Wolves have a favorable run of fixtures where they have two 2FDR home games against Palace and Watford in GW28 and have a confirmed fixture in GW30 as well. From a short to long-run perspective, your WC team needs to have at least one Wolves defender if not two. They have 79% odds to keep at least one CS over the two fixtures. You can either double up on Wolves defenders or go ahead with SA and one defender.

Romain Saiss is the top option considering Semedo (£4.8) who is injured without a return date. Saiss has 30% odds to score a goal and 17% odds to provide an assist over the DGW with a whooping predicted point of 9.5. Saiss has 2 goals to his name with an xG of 2.3 and can be a huge attacking threat. Kilman provides a cheaper passage into Wolves’ defense and helps you prepare for the BGW30 as well. He is £0.4 cheaper than Saiss and has predicted points of 7.6. He is on par with Saiss for the total points at 93 and has similar 2 attacking returns (1G+1A) to Saiss’ 2 goals.

Lucas Digne (£5.1) or Matty Cash (£5.1)

FPL GW28 Wildcard Defenders to Target ~ Digne and Cash

Aston Villa You can target one of Villa’s defenders from a short-term perspective. They have a DGW in GW28 and a sure-shot game against Arsenal in GW30. Gerrard’s system suits the wing-backs. In the 2020-21 season with the Rangers, their RB James Tavernier had 5 open play goals and 9 assists and LB Borna Barisic has 1 goal and 6 assists. With Gerrard at the helm, Digne and Cash are going to be benefitted the most. Lucas Digne has contributed to 23 pts, one assist, and 2 CS since he joined Villa in GW23.

He has created 9 chances, 2 shots in the box and 70 final 3rd passes in that duration. Digne takes corners and freekicks for Villa and is more attacking than Matty Cash. Matty Cash has produced 29 pts in the same duration, thanks to the super goal and 14 pts haul against Brighton in GW27. In terms of volumes, he has 3 shots in the box and one shot on target which is more than Digne. On the other hand, Digne certainly has more changes created and a better xA.

Tino Livramento (£4.4) or Kyle Walker-Peters (£4.8) or Jan Bednarek (£4.4)

FPL GW28 Wildcard Defenders to Target ~ Livramento, Kyle walker peters and bednarek

Southampton Saints’ defenders can be a decent and a cut-price option for the long term. They have great DGW28 fixtures, but blank in GW30. They have decent fixtures till the end of the season. They have looked solid recently and have kept 2 back-to-back clean sheets against Everton and Norwich.

Livramento v KWP v Bednarek in last 2 games

  • Points: 20 v 15 v 12
  • xG: 0.5 v 0.7 v 0.2
  • xA: 0.6 v 0.3 v 0.1
  • Touches in the box: 6 v 12 v 5

Livramento and KWP look like two close options. I would want to go for Livramento solely because of the reason he is 0.4 cheaper than KWP and can be an amazing lock and forget enabler till the end of the season.
