Ideal FPL GW27 Free Hit Draft and Players to Target

As GW27 approaches, many FPL managers are activating their free hit chip. With Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea blanking, many managers will be down a few players if they piled into those teams in DGW26. Additionally, Burnley have a double game week so there are gains to be made through them too which may be difficult without using this chip. Therefore, now seems as good a time as any in which to deploy the free hit. Below, I’ll be outlining what I believe to be the best Free Hit draft for FPL GW27.

Link to all our FPL Gameweek 27 Blogs. Our blogs cover a wide range of topics including the best free hit team, FPL chip strategy, players to target, differentials, and more.

Before going further, Do vote in this week’s FPL GW27 allaboutfpl captaincy poll. The same will be available in the captaincy analysis and metrics blog written by@AK_FPL1. The metrics has a 22/26 record this year. Last week the metric predicted Salah as the best captaincy candidate. Stay tuned for the GW27 Captaincy metric to see who tops it.

The results and the captaincy metric blog will be published soon based on the votes.

FPL GW27 Free Hit Goal Keepers

Nick Pope £5.4M:

Nick pope FPL GW27 Free Hit Goal Keepers

There’s no doubt in my mind that Nick Pope is by far the best goalkeeper option for GW27. Burnley have a double of Crystal Palace and Leicester and they have been a considerably improved outfit, keeping 3 clean sheets in their last four games. To add to his appeal, Pope is normally a guarantee for making a few saves so even if he doesn’t keep a clean sheet, he manages a couple of save points more often than not.

Ben Foster £4.1M:

Foster is the perfect second keeper for this week. He’s the cheapest playing keeper so if something disastrous happens and Pope misses out entirely, you should be on for a couple of points at least.

FPL GW27 Free Hit Defenders

Joao Cancelo £7.2:

Joao Cancelo £7.2 FPL GW27 Free Hit Defenders

Its difficult to justify ever leaving Cancelo out. Even though he only got a 1 pointer against Tottenham, he looked threatening throughout and on another day could have had multiple attacking returns. He’s just as likely to get an attacking return as he is a clean sheet so he’s another no-brainer of a pick.

James Tarkowski £4.9M:

As Burnley have a double game week along with their newfound stubbornness as touched upon earlier, I feel it’s optimal to go with double Burnley defence.
The reason I’ve gone Tarkowski over one of the cheaper fullbacks is primarily due to his second fixture. Leicester have been susceptible at set-pieces this season, giving up numerous goals from corners and Tarkowski is always up there whenever Burnley have an attacking opportunity. If Burnley keep even just one clean sheet and Tarkowski can get a goal, you’re looking at a monster haul and likely a differential one at that.

In all honesty, you could go with either Tarkowski or Mee and they’re as likely as each other to grab a goal from a header so it’s a toss of a coin as to which one you go for.

Diogo Dalot £4.6M:

Although Manchester United haven’t been especially solid in defence this season, (6 clean sheets in 26 matches is hardly anything to boast about) Watford have been even worse when it comes to scoring goals. Prior to their solitary goal against Aston Villa, they failed to score in the previous 4 games. At his price, Dalot is a fairly low-risk one-week punt and he does have the added bonus of assist potential by way of his crossing which has been relatively decent this season.

Tino Livramento £4.4M:

Tino Livramento £4.4M ~ FPL GW27 Free Hit Defenders

For me, a free hit is all about targeting the best fixtures. Southampton’s assignment at Norwich is possibly the best this week. Accordingly, I feel it’s necessary to triple upon them. I’m of the opinion that at least one defensive asset is necessary. I’ve decided to pick Livramento as he possesses the most attacking threat out of the entire back four. Incidentally, he provided an assist against Everton in their 2-0 victory on Saturday picking up three bonus points on the way. Livramento is in here as the 12th man, but for reasons that’ll become clearer later, he may still be required.

Javier Manquillo £3.9M:

Every team needs a cheap player who could see minutes as insurance on your bench and Javier Manquillo provides that here. You don’t really need to think twice about including him in your free hit team. As he faces a Brentford team who haven’t been very prolific, it’s not impossible that he could keep a clean sheet and come in if necessary.
It should be said that Manquillo may be out. If this is the case, Ben Johnson at the same price could be a good option now that Coufal is injured.

FPL GW27 Free Hit Midfielders

Bruno Fernandes £12.2M:

Bruno Fernandes £12.2M ~ FPL GW27 Free Hit Midfielders

Bruno will be very popular this week. In Salah’s absence, he is probably the in-form premium midfielder in the game. Although Watford have been a lot more durable under Roy Hodgson, Bruno could quite conceivably return twice in a 2-0 victory for United. If that is the case, you could be looking at a pretty big haul. Bruno will probably be the player with the highest effective ownership this week too so you may well have to captain him in order to make gains.

Heung Min Son £10.7M:

Heung Min Son £10.7M ~ FPL GW27 Free Hit Midfielders

The Tottenham attack has been firing again recently and it comes as a surprise to nobody that Son has been integral to it. He provided a goal and an assist against Man City and comes up against a pretty generous Leeds defence who have conceded 50 goals this season which is second only behind Norwich so he is one of my first picks in this side. His link-up play with Harry Kane, (more on him later) was back to its devastating best against City and he should be set to continue this form if the recent trend is anything to go by.

Riyad Mahrez £8.7M:

Riyad Mahrez £8.7M ~ FPL GW27 Free Hit Midfielders

Given its a free hit, it would be remiss not to include a City attacker, particularly as they are playing a defence that is quite possibly the weakest in the league at the moment in Everton. The question, as it always is with City, is who to buy? Any one of Mahrez, KDB, Sterling or Foden could deliver a huge haul this week but any one of them could quite easily sit the game out. However, Guardiola has a history of going through phases where he selects Mahrez for the majority of matches. It is often at this time of the season, when the City’s fixture list becomes more congested due to European commitments, that this occurrence generally takes place.

Moreover, the beauty with Mahrez is that when he doesn’t start, he rarely comes off the bench. Since GW15, Mahrez has started 6 of 11 games and has failed to come on in all but one of the other four. Mahrez has managed 9 returns in that period so if he starts, its more than likely that he’ll get something and if not, chances are he won’t come on for a 1 pointer. To add to his appeal Mahrez has been City’s first-choice penalty taker too and City have had 8 penalties already this season. If you have a respectable first sub as this draft does in the aforementioned Livramento, I believe Mahrez is worth a punt this GW.

James Ward Prowse £6.5M:

James Ward Prowse £6.5M ~ FPL GW27 Free Hit Midfielders

In a week that’s likely to see a strong template, Warde Prouse might be one of the few with pretty low ownership. His seq piece threat is well documented. Both his shooting and crossing from free-kicks is arguably second to none in the league and his open play threat isn’t exactly terrible either. Like Mahrez, Warde Prouse has the added bonus of being on penalties. Whenever Southampton are at their best, JWP is always involved and Norwich may be the perfect fixture for him to showcase his ability and provide a healthy return in doing so.

Anthony Gordon £4.5M:

Gordon is one of the cheapest playing midfielders that is a regular starter and has even provided a few returns recently. He’ll probably sit second or third on your bench so the fact he plays City is irrelevant.

FPL GW27 Free Hit Forwards

Armando Broja £5.4M:

Armando Broja £5.4M ~ FPL GW27 Free Hit Forwards

Amidst all of the mediocrity that forwards have been providing as of late, Broja has been one of the few who has been a consistent performer. Given his price, I’d have been tempted to include Broja here irrespective of his opponent but the fact that he is playing Norwich makes this pick a no brainer. As mentioned earlier, I felt it optimal to triple up on Southampton and in my mind, Broja is without a doubt the standout pick from the trio that I have selected.

Harry Kane £12.5M:

Harry Kane £12.5M ~ FPL GW27 Free Hit Forwards

Coming fresh off a brace against Man City, a game in which he put in a superb performance, Harry Kane will be brimming with confidence. As long as he comes through the Burnley fixture unscathed, he could be set to feast against a Leeds defence that has been extremely shaky this season as referenced earlier. Kane is also a viable captaincy option this week if you wish to go against Bruno Fernandes.
The double of Son and Kane for this GW is as easy a choice as any for this draft due to Leeds’ defensive woes coupled with Tottenham’s most recent performance.

Wout Weghorst

Wout Weghorst ~ FPL GW27 Free Hit Forwards

I was sceptical about Wout Weghorst prior to DGW26. In his GW25 match against Liverpool, his composure in front of goal wasn’t brilliant but his goal and assist against Brighton in the first part of their double in GW26 altered changed my opinion on that. Neither of their DGW27 opponents, particularly Leicester, have been convincing from a defensive point of view so Weghorst could be primed to take advantage of that and make the most of his double.
As is the case with Southampton, I feel it would be a waste of a free hit if you didn’t have triple Burnley by virtue alone of their double game week.

FPL GW27 Free Hit Draft

FPL GW27 Free Hit Draft

On the face of it, this draft could appear very similar to the majority that have been circulating across FPL Twitter. It’s important to take into account that this is a minuscule corner of the internet and in a wider scale, this team, or any free hit team for that matter, still has a great deal of differential value and thus the potential for substantial gains. It may seem like many of the individual players have pretty high ownership, but collectively very few will have more than a few of these players so it is still undoubtedly an enormous chance to make up ground.
