In this blog, we take a look and review the FPL GW26 sunday fixtures based on eye test and stats to see which players stand out this week.

Before going further, Do vote in this week’s FPL GW27 allaboutfpl captaincy poll. The same will be available in the captaincy analysis and metrics blog written by@AK_FPL1. The metrics has a 22/26 record this year. Last week the metric predicted Salah as the best captaincy candidate. Stay tuned for the GW27 Captaincy metric to see who tops it.

FPL GW26 Stats Review

FPL GW26 Stats Review
Stats from FFSCOUT

The table above shows all relevant stats from the two games on Sunday with a minimum of 0.20 xGI value. All previous plans and chip strategy went out of the window with the big DGW announcements on Friday hence the interest in Leeds might be relevant towards the DGWs and blank GW30 while Manchester United assets are interesting to those on Free Hit for the upcoming BGW27 ahead of a fixture against Watford. Leicester don’t have any DGWs coming up soon per the current schedule however they do have multiple fixtures to reschedule and will inevitably draw interest late into the season when they’re rescheduled.

Cristiano Ronaldo (12.5, FWD) topped the xGI charts for the game with 0.81 and importantly 0.76 of which comes from the xG component. He had 2 shots, both inside the bo including a big chance and created 1 chance. Ronaldo is having a rare dry finishing spell and there remains a small chance he gets rested for the Watford fixture after their Champions League game if Cavani returns to fill fitness.

The stat-wise star of the day, Jadon Sancho (8.9m, MID) notched another impressive xGI showing with 0.72. An xG of 0.21 and xA of 0.51 for him from 3 shots, all from inside the box, 3 chances created of which 2 were big chances. His heat map shown below is very encouraging with plenty of penalty area presence ahead of a good fixture against Watford. He’s an excellent differential on a GW27 Free Hit.

While Paul Pogba and Anthony Elanga made an impression in terms of xGI this week, the most prominent point scorer of the day was Bruno Fernandes (11.7m, MID). The Portuguese midfielder played in more of a number 10 role and looked extremely threatening all game. He had an xGI of 0.60 and xG of 0.46 with 3 shots, 1 from inside the box and 1 big chance, created 2 chances including 1 big chance. He had a good penalty area presence per his heat map below and in my opinion, is one of the best options on Free Hit in GW27.

For Leeds, Raphinha (6.5m, MID) was benched but brought on at the start of the second half and made an impact in a crazy 30-second spell in the second half. He had 1 shot, a big chance inside the box and created 1 chance for an xG of 0.69.

Daniel James (6.0m, MID) has been putting up decent underlying numbers for a while now and while he wouldn’t be a pick I’d suggest given the quality of other midfield options around his price bracket, he’s not a bad short term punt. He had an xA of 0.24 from 2 chances created including 1 big chance created but 0 shots.

From the second game of the day, interest in Wolves was inevitably high given they have a fixture in both Blank GW27 and GW30 while also having a DGW in GW26 and GW28. That’s a strong fixture combination for FPL managers looking to limit their FH chip usage through this spell and their defenders could be good assets in a potential Bench Boost in GW28.

However, despite their 2-1 win, no Wolves player notched an xGI over 0.20 and hence fail to make the table above. Relevantly though, Max Kilman had a team-high xG of 0.12 while Jose Sa made 6 saves on his way to a bonus point.

Leicester, on the other hand, had an encouraging showing despite being without Vardy and Barnes. James Maddison was benched, likely due to fitness concerns.

Ademola Lookman (6.0, MID) had a day-high xGI of 1.04 with 0.93 from xG. He had 3 shots, all from inside the box including a big chance and created 2 chances. He was Leicesters most potent threat on the day.

The Leicester player worth highlighting from this game is Youri Tielemans (6.4m, MID). He was instrumental for Leicesters’ play all day, had 5 shots, 2 from inside the box and created 2 chances for an xGI of 0.28 and xG of 0.19. Though he had 0 big chance involvement, all of Leicesters play goes through him, he takes up more advanced positions than his usual deeper role in a 4-3-3 system (as seen in the heat map below) and he’s on penalties in the absence of Jamie Vardy.
