Best FPL GW11 budget picks ~ Defenders

Budget Defenders provide teams with a good bench, to cover any rotations. Especially with the Christmas period around the corner, a playing bench is close to essential.

The best choice in this bracket is no doubt, Livramento(4.4m) of Southampton. He started the season at 4.0m and has been an absolute gem for FPL managers. In this category, with a bit of rotation risk comes, Manqilo(4.0m) of Newcastle and Ben Johnson(3.9m) of West Ham. Here are other best budget defenders to own in the next few weeks, based on their fixtures and form:

1) Tariq Lamptey(4.4m) or Shane Duffy(4.4m)

FPL GW11 budget picks ~ Tariq Lamptey(4.4m)

Brighton this season have kept 4 clean sheets, and have an xGC/appearance of 1.4. Shane Duffy seems to be nailed on to start for them, and can fetch you with some clean sheets in good fixtures. Tariq Lamptey is a player who is very exciting to watch from an FPL point of view. He made 3 appearances off the bench in the last three matches, after returning from an injury. Lamptey might get benched as he is being eased back into the squad, but has high potential to get goal contribution. Brighton fixtures also look great in the long run, and they face NEW, AVL, LEE and SOU in the next five.

Out of the two, Lamptey is the high risk high reward option as of now, whereas Duffy is expected start every game. However, Lamptey should start every game after a while.

1) Smith-Rowe(5.6m)

FPL GW11 budget picks ~ Smith-Rowe(5.6m)

ESR has started every game this season for the gunners, and has been an important player for them. In the previous 2 weeks he delivered, 13 and 9 points respectively. Arsenal are looking much better going forward, than how they looked in the opening few weeks of the season. They face WAT and NEW in next three, making ESR a great option in this bracket.

Brentford’s attacking stats have been top notch this season, with an xG/appearance of 1.4. With Mbeumo coming close to scoring a lot, he should get on the score sheet soon. Brentford have a lucrative fixture run to back it up. They face NOR and NEW back to back.

He has an xG/90 of 0.28 and xA/90 of 0.08, with 0.56 Big Chance/90. Not to mention, he plays up top, along with Ivan Toney, making him an out of position midfielder, essentially playing as a forward.

Other Mentions

Outside these three, even Gallagher is a great option hold on to, along with Raphinha. They both have great underlying numbers, and are expected to keep those up. Also Leandro Trossard(6.4m) of Brighton could a good option to buy this week, as he played up top in the previous match against Liverpool. He faces NEW, AVL, LEE in the next three, and could be a great differential to own over this period.

Budget Forward is a bit trickier position as compared to defence and midfield.

Hwang although has been over performing his underlying stats, as he has scored his 4 goals from a total of 7 shots. He has recorded an xG/90 of 0.35 and xA/90 of 0.14. At this price, he also makes a good bench cover.

2) Ivan Toney(6.6m)

FPL GW11 budget picks~ Ivan Toney

Brentford, as mentioned above go on a phenomenal run of fixtures. Although, Ivan Toney has not been great in terms of output, scoring only 2 goals. But against NOR, NEW, EVE and LEE in next five, he should get on the scoresheet often. From a non-FPL perspective, he has been sensational this season. He has recorded an xG/90 of 0.30 and xA/90 of 0.31.

3) Callum Wilson(7.3m)

Newcastle’s fixture run

Wilson’s stats might be a bit skewed as he missed out a few games, but in those minutes he recorded an xG/90 of 0.46 with a 0.90 Big Chance every 90 minutes.

Conclusion

The players mentioned in this article could come good over the next few weeks, as they have the form and the fixtures in their favour as well. Sometimes, our expectations from such budget players are very high, however, their price should be kept in mind, while considering their output.
