FPL GW6 Transfer Trends Analysis | Popular Transfer Combinations

Welcome to FPL GW6 Transfer Trends! This is a weekly series where we take a bit of time to analyze some of the major transfer trends on FPL prior to the deadline.

A relatively lower points average for FPL GW5, with some managers enjoying green arrows, and others pushed back by red arrows. Regardless, managers are already making moves prior to the deadline.

This week, we can see the transfer trends show people buying players from Manchester United, West Ham United, Watfordand Newcastle. The top 5 transfers OUT come from Man United, Man City, Everton, Liverpool, and Aston Villa.

Before going further, Do vote in this week’s FPL GW6 allaboutfpl captaincy poll. The same will be available in the captaincy analysis and metrics blog written by@AK_FPL1. The metrics has been delivering consistently with a 100% record this year. Last week the metric predicted Salah as the best captaincy candidate and he returned once again in GW5 with a double-digit haul. Stay tuned for the GW5 Captaincy metric to see who tops it. Top Transfers In and Out Ahead of FPL GW6

Top transfer in and top transfer out ahead of FPL GW6
FPL GW6 Transfer trends ~ Most transferred in and transferred out players

Richarlison’s knee injury sees him lead the top transfers out ahead of the deadline, with 244k managers shipping him out. Pep Roulette strikes again as Torres was benched against Southampton, with 186k managers not eager to hold onto him any longer.

Fernandes returns once again on top transfers out as the appeal of Ronaldo gradually continues to rise, with 162k managers taking him out of their teams. Alexander-Arnold’s absence against Palace last week due to an illness sees 136k managers transferring him out, while Ings makes yet another appearance at 5th place of top transfers out, with 119k managers not pleased with him despite picking up an assist against Everton.

On the other hand, West Ham’s Antonio leads the top transfers in this week with 259k managers eager to bring him in ahead of GW6, ironically as he was the most transferred out player last GW due to his one game suspension.

Ronaldo’s goal against West Ham sees him make top transfers in again, with 251k managers wanting to get in on the action. Benrahma’s 10 point haul despite Antonio’s absence against United sees 221k managers rushing to bring him into their teams.

221k managers were impressed by Watford midifielder Sarr’s 15 point haul, scoring two goals and picking up all 3 bonus points in the process. Last, but not least, Newcastle’s Saint-Maximin makes it at 5th place for top transfers in, with 204k managers bringing him in after his goal against Leeds.

The 3 transfer combinations we will be focusing on are: Torres to Sarr, Richarlison to Antonio, and Calvert-Lewin to Saint-Maximin.

Top Three FPL GW6 Transfer Trends Combinations

FPL GW6 Transfer Combination 1: Ferran Torres (£7.2) to Ismaila Sarr (£6.1)

Ferran Torres owners were disappointed to see him on the bench against Southampton. Despite a lot of speculation that he could start, managers had once again succumb to the notorious Pep Roulette.

On the flip side, Ismaila Sarr recorded a massive 15 point haul against Norwich, with two goals and all three bonus points. Being 1 million cheaper, it’s no surprise that 45.2% of managers are already quick to make the swap to the Watford winger.

Against Norwich alone, Sarr registered 5 shots total, all of them were in the box! He also registered 4 big chances.

Among other midfielders, he is 4th for shots taken in the box (11) and is 2nd for expected goal involvement (61%). He is 3rd for non-penalty xG, at 2.75. And, at £6.1, he is an excellent budget enabler in midfield for upgrades elsewhere.

Who do Watford face in GW6?

Watford play Newcastle at home in GW6. Newcastle are, still, one of the worst defences, with an xGC of 12.4. They’ve also conceded 17 big chances, the most for any team.

Arguably one of the weaker defences in the league, having conceded the most goals of all teams with 13 goals conceded. Should fare well for Sarr.

FPL GW6 Transfer Combination 2: Richarlison (£7.5) to Antonio (£7.9)

FPL GW6 Transfer Trends ~ Richarlison to Antonio
West Ham United’s fixtures from GW6-12

Richarlison’s knee injury putting him out until at least the 17th of October sees him at the top of transfers out prior to the deadline. Funny, because the player taking his place was last Gameweek’s most transferred player, Michail Antonio.

Many FPL managers were eager to sell Antonio for Bamford given the nice run of fixtures Leeds have until GW10. Some held onto Antonio for his one-week suspension. Regardless, 10.5% of managers have made the switch of Richarlison to Antonio, two players at roughly the same price point.

Antonio still has the highest number of points among all forwards despite missing GW5 and scoring negative points in GW4, with 39 FPL points. He leads among all forwards for xGI (68%), shots taken (18), shots on target (8), shots in the box (15), big chances (6), and xG (3.60). The stats speak for themselves.

He would have also had plenty of rest due to his suspension. I expect him to come back fresh and eager to get involved again.

Managers that chose to hold onto Antonio are rewarded since they do not have to buy back Antonio at his higher price of £7.9. Regardless, he is arguably the standout mid-priced forward pick.

Who do West Ham face in GW6?

West Ham play Leeds away in GW6. Leeds might be the second-worst defence after Newcastle, with 92 shots conceded, 52 of them conceded in the box (worst of all teams, joint with Leicester). 47% of their chances were conceded centrally, prime zone where Antonio operates.

Leeds, along with Leicester, have conceded the most shots in the box, with 62 conceded.

FPL GW6 Transfer Combination 3: Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£8.1) to Allan Saint-Maximin (£6.7)

Calvert-Lewin’s muscle injury rules him out until the 2nd of October, so it’s no wonder he’s being shipped out by many managers. 13.5% of managers are making the downgrade to Allan Saint-Maximin (ASM).

Among sub-7.0 million forwards, ASM leads in FPL points, with 27 points thus far. He currently has 2 goals and 2 assists in 5 games. Statistically, he is 1st for total touches in the box among sub-7m forwards (26) and joint 2nd for shots on target (5).

ASM typically takes a more creative role, with 5 total successful crosses and 11 key passes. However, in Wilson’s absence, he is deployed as a lone striker up top, boosting his attacking appeal. For those looking for a decent budget forward to free up funds, ASM would be the best pick.

Who do Newcastle face in GW6?

Newcastle face Watford away in GW6. While Watford are not the worst defence in the league, they have still conceded 11 big chances.

It is also worth noting that they have a non-penalty xGC of 5.7, the most for any team. I am personally finding it hard to see that this match will end in clean sheets. I expect goals from both sides, and ASM should get involved in the Newcastle attack.
