DGW 27 Review & GW 28 Plans

Points: 77 points + GW rank: 1.6m (updated 11.03.21 with final scores and screenshots now)

*My screenshots in the article have now been updated with the final scores and OR updates. I managed to beat my 11th cup (opponent 77 vs 56 points)I now sit at my highest OR of the season at 104k.

The GW is not over yet but I wanted to get this article out. I know we are all pondering our next moves in preparation for the first normal GW, after four consecutive DGWs. I will update the article again on Wednesday (11.03.21) with my final points total and OR.

I’m currently leading vs my 11th cup opponent (60 vs 39 points). They have Dias, Stones and Gundogan (captain) remaining. I have Dias, Cancelo and Gundogan (captain) remaining. I feel fairly safe in saying that I should probably qualify for the next round of the cup now.

Pleased with Johnstone’s 8 points, a shame he didn’t get one more save to clean up on all the bonus points. But I shouldn’t be greedy eh? Not too bothered by the 6 points benched from Coufal as he was never going to start over Raphinha, Bamford, Konsa or Watkins for me (1st on my bench). I was super disappointed with Salah, Raphinha and Bamford.

I really hope that my captain Gundogan starts for Man City this evening. Funnily enough, this was the first GW in a long time that Bruno gave me a rank increase despite not captaining him, due to a below 100% EO. I kind of feel like I was lured in by a DGW captain when Kane vs Crystal Palace should have been my obvious choice in hindsight.

My overall rank improved from 120k to 104k.

Overall Rank going into FPL GW 28

I am now just 2 points outside the Top 100k for the first time this season (a personal goal I strive for every season).

The all elusive consecutive Top 10k finish is looking difficult to achieve whilst I am still 76 points behind! Perhaps a more realistic stretch target for the season is the Top 50k (28 points behind right now).

FPL Gameweek 28, future Double Gameweeks and Blank Gameweeks (29 & 33)

DGW27 is still ongoing with the Man City vs Southampton game still to be played. GW28 will be the first normal GW in a long time. The hope of a DGW28 for Aston Villa and Everton is really dwindling now. Ben Crellin had previously said it is only 10% likely now and if not announced on Wednesday that it will not happen.

If this does not happen in GW 28, it could alternatively form a DGW 30 instead.

Tottenham will also get either a DGW32 or DGW37 depending on the outcome of the FA Cup Quarter Final game between Manchester City and Everton. If Man City win then Spurs will play twice in GW32 vs Everton and Southampton.

BGW29 has only four fixtures. In my opinion, it is better to navigate that GW with FTs and points hits rather than Free Hit chip. The Free Hit chip could be far more useful in BGW33 when Spurs, Man City, Fulham and Southampton all blank for the EFL cup final. Disclaimer, I used my FH already and only have my second Wildcard left for this season.

Some thoughts about this plus my chip strategy for BGW29 & BGW33

  • Last GW I ended up saving my FT and not selling either of Bruno or Salah
  • This GW I have started both Raphinha and Watkins ahead of Bamford in my bus team. I may still put Bamford into the XI, ahead of Raphinha, closer to the deadline.
  • I’m also starting Konsa over Coufal or Dallas in the bus team (same as DGW27)
  • I will be captaining Bruno, Salah, Kane or Watkins
  • I intend on using my next 3 FTs on players from teams who do not blank in BGW 29 (I used FH in BGW 18 and BB in DGW 19).
  • I had planned to use my second Wildcard around GW 31 to prepare for the final stretch of the season.
  • I am starting to consider WC in GW33 though when the next Blank Gamweek is.
  • Teams who I have players for in BGW29 have decent fixtures in GW30 so it makes holding the WC till GW 31 easier.
  • I do regret not activating the TC chip on Gundogan in DGW 24 (used it on Kane in DGW 26).

I believe there isn’t a one size fits all answer for the next set of BGWs and DGWs. It will predominantly depend on if you still have your FH, BB, TC and second Wildcard handy.

Captain for FPL GW 28

I would like to captain Bruno or Salah in GW 28. Kane is a fantastic option and loves all London derbies but especially the North London Derby.

As a Gooner, I don’t think captaining a Spurs player vs my beloved Arsenal is going to happen. Especially as I also own Son too. It is worth noting that Spurs play their Europa League tie at home in London on Thursday, whilst Arsenal have to travel 4 hours each way to Greece for their tie.

I like Watkins as a differential captain vs Newcastle, but this would be far more appealing if we had definitive news regarding Grealish being fit to start that match. Watkins loves a good old crossbar challenge as we’ve seen these last few weeks!

I am not considering a Man City captain vs Fulham. They play tonight on Wednesday 10th March and then after Fulham in GW28 will have their Champion’s League match to focus on. I don’t want to try and predict Pep roulette and I also think that Fulham is a much stronger team at the moment.

I am going to be waiting till as close to the deadline as possible before deciding on whether I move the captaincy armband of Bruno Fernandes. Rashford is likely to be out injured and West Ham look like a far better defensive unit lately. But as we saw vs Man City, Bruno can easily get double-digits with just a casual penalty for Man United.

I’ve included the Opta Stats from Fantasy Football Hub for Bruno, Salah, Kane and Watkins. In case you wanted to have a look at the four players I like the most for captaincy this week.

Bruno Fernandes is my current bus team captain as things stand.

The FFH Predicted Points Tool has Bruno on 5 points in GW 28

FFH Predicted Points Tool has Salah on 5.2 points in GW 28.

The FFH Predicted Points Tool has Kane on 5 points in GW 28.

The FFH Predicted Points Tool has Watkins on 4.3 points in GW 28.

Updated Watchlist for FPL GW 28:

(Bold names are new this week)

I will maintain an updated Watchlist in this section. I have identified players that I want to buy for my own team. I will also be listing which players are on the chopping blocks in favour of these players on the watchlist.

Goalkeepers: Martinez, Areola

Out-list: McCarthy

Defenders: Cresswell, Targett, Maguire, Digne, Rudiger

Out-list: Cancelo

Midfielders: Bale, Grealish, Aubameyang, Saka

Out-list: Salah

Forwards: CalvertLewin, Werner

Out-list:

Players I’ve removed/added to my Watchlist ahead of FPL GW 28:

Salah – added to my out-list. I’ve had enough, I don’t want to spend £12.6m on him and I am glad I waited before selling Bruno. Salah will make my way either in GW28 or in BGW29 for the likes of Aubameyang, Bale or Grealish.

Bale – added to my watchlist, may buy him as a third Man City attacker for BGW29.

Grealish – added to my watchlist, may buy him in GW28 if confirmed fit to start vs Newcastle.

Creswell – added to my watchlist.

McCarthy – added to my out-list for Areola.

Cancelo – added to my out-list .

Removed

De Bruyne– was on my watchlist but I don’t intend on buying him and am happy with my double City defence and Gundogan combination.

Barnes/ Maddison– both were on my watchlist but removed now for Spurs and Arsenal players.

Bruno Fernandes– was on my out-list but I am glad I held onto him and didn’t lose £0.5m value for when I intended on “buying back” on WC2.

Johnstone – was on my out-list but I have put McCarthy on my out-list now instead.

These are the 2 options I am going to decide between:

  1. Use 1FT for McCarthy to Areola and roll the 2nd FT so I have 2FT in BGW29 (bench Areola this GW)
  2. Use 1FT for Salah to Grealish and roll the 2nd FT (only if Jack is passed fit to start vs Newcastle)

2FT in BGW29:

  1. I may take a punt on Aubameyang or Bale in BGW29 by buying him for Salah. I will look to buy Salah back on my WC31/33 if I do this. Or get Jota as a cheaper alternative instead.
  2. Cancelo to Cresswell in BGW29 is an option
  3. Selling both Salah and Bruno in BGW29 to get both Auba and Bale is also possible with 2FT.
