GW 25 Review & DGW 26 Plans

Points: 82 points + GW rank: 572k

I beat my 9th opponent in the FPL Cup (82 vs 70 points). I was very pleased with my Leeds trio of captain Bamford (16 points), Raphinha (12 points) and Dallas (17 points).

I was also really pleased to see that I benched the correct Man City defender in favour of Dallas. The biggest disappointments were my Southampton duo of McCarthy (3 points) and Ings (3 points).

Especially as I had told myself I would play Antonio and save a free transfer instead of selling him for Ings. The fact that Antonio outscored Ings in one fixture vs Spurs was a real kick in the teeth.

It felt great to get a captain return two GWs in a row now. If you have been following the last few articles, you will know that I had captaincy blanks from DGW 19 through to GW 23.

My overall rank improved from 188k to 156k.

Overall Rank going into FPL DGW 26

I am now 18 points away from the Top 100k (a personal goal I strive for every season).

Feeling confident of achieving this by the end of the season but the all elusive consecutive Top 10k finish is looking difficult to achieve whilst I am still 89 points behind! Perhaps a more realistic stretch target for the season is the Top 50k (43 points behind right now).

FPL Double Gameweek 26 (27 & 28) and Blank Gameweeks (29 & 33)

DGW25 ended in dramatic fashion last night with Leeds winning 3-0 against Southampton. We are about to enter the largest DGW of recent memory with 7 extra fixtures. There will be 17 fixtures in DGW26.

You can track the upcoming 8 GWs in this long-term view from Ben Crellin. It includes potential DGW 28 fixtures for both Aston Villa and Everton.

Some thoughts about this plus my chip strategy for DGW26, 27 & 28 + BGW29 & BGW33

  • Last GW I did Justin to Dallas and Antonio to Ings with my 2FT.
  • This GW I have changed my bus team captain 3 times already and also swapped around my bench.
  • Started out with the armband on Son. I moved onto Gundogan and have now landed on Bruno. I’ve also benched Mee for Dallas and Ings for Raphinha now.
  • I intend on using the majority of my FTs between DGW 26 and BGW 29 on players from teams who have a DGW 26 but not blank in BGW 29 (I used FH in BGW 18 and BB in DGW 19).
  • My second Wildcard being triggered around GW 31 to prepare for the final stretch of the season.
  • Teams who I have players for in BGW29 have decent fixtures in GW30 so it makes holding the WC till GW 31 easier.
  • I’m still eager to use Triple Captain in DGW 26 (but I am struggling to decide whether I will take a hit to buy Kane and activate the chip. I may end up buying Calvert-Lewin instead of Kane and thus stick with the Bruno captaincy).
  • I do regret not activating the TC chip on Gundogan in DGW 24.

I believe there isn’t a one size fits all answer for the next set of BGWs and DGWs. It will predominantly depend on if you still have your FH, BB, TC and second Wildcard handy.

Captain for FPL DGW 26

I’d been planning since 2020 to Triple Captain, Kane, in DGW 26 for what at the time appeared to be the two best fixtures in the DGW. However, since then, the second fixture is a revived Fulham, not a poorly Southampton (the first fixture being Burnley as it always has been).

I can also no longer buy Kane for a FT as I had originally planned due to using a transfer on Antonio to Ings last week. I will be £0.4m short of doing and Ings to Kane transfer for free this week. This means I will have to likely downgrade Mee to Konsa to fund this on a -4 point hit.

I am going to be waiting till as close to the deadline as possible before deciding on whether I take the hit for Kane and whether I move the captaincy armband off Bruno in my current bus team.

I’ve included the Opta Stats from Fantasy Football Hub for Bruno Fernandes, Kane and Salah. In case you wanted to have a look at the three DGW players I like the most for captaincy this week.

I had also toyed with the idea of Gundogan for two home fixtures but seeing him start in the Champion’s League this evening has ruled that one out for me personally.

Bruno is also a fantastic option and faces Crystal Palace in one of this two fixtures.

The FFH Predicted Points Tool has Bruno on 10 points in DGW 26

FFH Predicted Points Tool has Kane on 10.9 points in DGW 26.

The FFH Predicted Points Tool has Salah on 12.5 points in DGW 26.

Updated Watchlist for FPL DGW 26:

(Bold names are new this week)

I will maintain an updated Watchlist in this section. I have identified players that I want to buy for my own team. I will also be listing which players are on the chopping blocks in favour of these players on the watchlist.

Goalkeepers: Martinez, Areola

Out-list: Johnstone

Defenders: Konsa, Targett, Maguire, Digne, Rudiger

Out-list: Cancelo, Mee

Midfielders: De Bruyne, Grealish, Barnes, Maddison

Out-list: Son

Forwards: Calvert-Lewin, Kane, Werner

Out-list: Ings

Players I’ve removed/added to my Watchlist ahead of FPL DGW 26:

Added

Calvert-Lewin – has a great DGW 26 vs West Brom (a) and Southampton (H). Considering him as my Ings replacement on my FT (if I ignore Kane for a hit).

De Bruyne – considering him as a Bruno/ Salah replacement for City’s DGW 27 (if I downgrade Cancelo in DGW 26 to free up a City slot)

Cancelo – added to my out-list incase I want to downgrade him for buying Kane in DGW 26 and to free up a City slot to buy KDB in DGW 27.

Son– added to my out-list so that he can potentially become Harvey Barnes in DGW 26 to help fund my Ings to Kane move.

Ings – added to my out-list so that he can potentially become one of CalvertLewin or Kane in DGW 26.

Removed

Antonio– was on my out-list but I sold him for Ings last GW.

These are the 3 options I am going to decide between:

  1. Ings to Calvert-Lewin and stick with Bruno/Salah captain.
  2. Ings to Kane funded by Mee/ Cancelo to Konsa (-4 point hit)
  3. Ings to Kane funded by Son to Barnes (-4 points hit)

In DGW27:

  1. Calvert-Lewin (if #1 above in DGW 26) to Ings for his DGW and then Ings back to Calvert-Lewin if DCL gets a DGW 28.
  2. Alternatively, if I sell Cancelo in DGW 26 then I am very likely to buy KDB in DGW 27 for Bruno or Salah.
