DGW19 is one of the biggest double game weeks this season, so choosing the right captain this game week will be very crucial. In this blog, I will discuss the captains to consider ahead of FPL GW 19 deadline and reveal who I’m likely to captain for FPL GW 19.

FPL GW 19 Captain Picks:

Kevin De Bruyne vs CRY(H)-AVL(H)

Kevin De Bruyne FPL GW 19 Captain Pick
KDB is the standout FPL DGW19 Captain pick

KDB is the only premium player who plays non-top six-team twice. I guess that is enough reason for us to captain him or even triple captain him. In his last 3 matches, the Belgian has registered an xG of 1.90 a number only slightly bettered by Bruno(1.92) and Son(1.97) and in the last 5 games, he has XG of 2.87 but has scored only once. He’s also racked up an xA of 2.92 with 3 assists during the period.

He has underperformed his XG massively 7th highest XG in the last 6 games despite playing one less game and 2nd for XA behind only Grealish, with his new position as a false nine he became more of a threat to opponents, Aguero is isolated and Gabriel Jesus doesn’t look in form, So the chances he still plays there are valid.

Palace can exhaust big teams as they did to Arsenal and United I guess he might get off at the 60th minute if they are winning by 2 goals at least he would have had a goal contribution by then and of course not rested against Villa. Crystal Palace having the 4th worse XGC per appearance in the last six-game weeks only West Brom, Newcastle and Leeds are worse.

While Villa are 7th best, but they have conceded 2 to Liverpool and Man United, one to Chelsea, 4 to Southampton, so they aren’t always solid and KDB contributes to most City goals, with set pieces and penalties I think he has a very high ceiling, there might be better triple captain choices later this season but we don’t have enough information and we can’t take that for granted.

Mohamed Salah vs MUN(H) BUR(H)

Mo Salah FPL DGW 19 Captain pick
Mo Salah for DGW19 captaincy anyone?

The Egyptian and Liverpool were in bad form recently. But with a big match incoming they know they must pick up there form, the game against United is unpredictable I don’t think neither form or stats interfere as much it’s about which team is more prepared physically and mentally also luck plays a big part if you think Liverpool are likely to win Man United and Salah contributing to the win you should captain him.

Salah’s stats are pretty much not appealing with an XG of 1.15 in the last three and an XA of 0.26, providing no goals or assists. The match against Burnley could also be a tough one as their defense in form and they have Pope, but it should end up in Liverpool and Salah’s favor.

Bruno and Rashford vs LIV(A) FUL(A)

Bruno and Rashford FPL DGW19 Captain picks

Bruno has two away matches. The first is a tough and unpredictable game against hated rivals Liverpool while the second is against Fulham who have the 5th worse XGC in the last 6 GWs per appearance as they don’t look as Solid as some GWs before.

We saw that Spurs absolutely dominated them with Son managing to get an xG of 1.5 alone this match. Bruno has the second-highest XG while Rashford has the eighth-best in the last 4, Bruno also has registered an xA of 1.56, so stats are pretty good but Bruno is on 4 yellow cards meaning that another one against Liverpool means he misses Fulham making his DGW pretty useless with -1 points and a single fixture against Liverpool.

Rashford doesn’t have that issue, he was also subbed off early and his stats improve significantly away from home as he has the best XG away since GW 8. The Utd attacker has also scored four goals and picked up three assists since GW8 in six away games which has got him 43 FPL points. Only Bruno Fernandes and Mohamed Salah (£12.5m) have scored more FPL points away from home during this period. He’s also got the most big chances (8) amongst midfielders away from home since GW8, much higher than the five big chances Bruno Fernandes has had since GW8. and will be on pens second match if Bruno gets a yellow against Liverpool.

Jamie Vardy vs SOU(H) CHE(H)

Jamie Vardy fpl GW 19 Captain pick
Vardy loves to play the big teams!

The stats buster is back fit and Leicester need him the most right now with two season-defining fixtures, so I think he can’t be rested in any of them. Games against Chelsea, Southampton are the type I think fits the way he plays as both Chelsea and Southmapton won’t sit back and defend. He is on pens and Leicester gets a lot of them, Southampton defensive stats are great recently, but I think that’s due opponents being out of form. Chelsea have been disappointing recently. A punt on Vardy might be the ways up the ranks due to his low ownership compared to his fellow premium picks and potentially low EO.

Andy Robertson vs MUN(H) BUR(H)

Robertson FPL DGW 19 Captain pick
Robbo Captain anyone?

The first match against Manchester United could go any way, I think it has a higher possibility of being a nil-nil draw as Manchester might defend in order to defend the first place and Liverpool will be more likely to attack but they know a loss here means United running away with the league. so I expect both of the managers to be very discreet however, an early goal would change all of that. The second fixture is against one of the most defensive teams and the third last for XG away from home this entire season. Robertson has a very high chance of getting an assist in any of those fixtures, providing the second-highest xA for defenders in the last 6 gameweeks and highest out of all defenders this season.

Thomas Soucek and Aaron Cresswell vs BUR(H) WBA(H)

Westham are the 10th for XGC at home this season which isn’t phenomenal but does the work against small teams, on the other hand, they are facing two of the three lowest teams for XG this season. Soucek has registered the most headed attempts (13) amongst midfielders this season and West Brom have conceded the second most headed attempts (44) this season, making him highly likely to score from a Cresswell cross. Creswell has registered 33 successful crosses which is only bettered by Andy Robertson.

Soucek has an XG of 1.56 and XA of 0.39 last 5 matches which is not remarkable, but he appears to be clinical, while Cresswell has an XA of 0.21 which is lower than Coufal, and an XG of 0.19 last 5 matches, but most of his chances come from set-pieces which xA doesn’t count except the ones that find teammates heads, so 0.21 is great. Creswell is fairly rotation proof as well having played every minute of the Premier League campaign so far. The potential for 2 CS makes Cresswell more appealing. I Wouldn’t recommend captaining Antonio due to his fitness and his minutes might be managed.

Sadio Mane vs MUN(H) BUR(H)

With slightly higher XG and XA than Mohamed Salah over the last five fixtures, some people are thinking of him as a differential captain, the stats of both Salah and Mane are similar because Liverpool wasn’t awarded a pen recently a pen would have made Salah XG a lot higher Mane, it might be worth the risk captaining him as Mane likes to play against teams like Burnley and might haul against them.

My FPL GW 19 Captain Pick

I’ll be going with KDB as my captain pick. KDB has had the second-highest XG to Son of 1.90 and the first XA of 1.23 since he played in his new position, and there is a very high chance of him playing there again since G.Jesus didn’t perform when he came on.

Thanks for readings this very lengthy article. Hope that it has helped the decision-making process ahead of FPL GW 19. I wish we all have a perfect DGW. Do drop me a follow on Twitter at @Omar_fpl_
