Fantasy Premier League have introduced a new game called Fantasy Challenge which is available on beta with the first challenge starting in GW30. The new game is much more fun and is played in a gameweek by gameweek basis with no overall season points and leaderboards. The challenge also changes each week which adds to the fun element to the game. In this blog, let’s understand the new FPL Fantasy Challenge game and have a look at how to play the game, what are the rules and some initial tips to get started!
FPL Fantasy Challenge Ultimate Guide
How to access the new FPL Fantasy Challenge Game?

What is FPL Fantasy Challenge?
- FPL challenge is a separate game mode from the main FPL game where you can create a brand new 15-man squad(2 GKs, 5 Defenders, 5 Midfielders, 3 Forwards) each week based on the challenge for the particular week.
- The scoring rules including bonus points are the same as Official FPL.
- You need to choose captain or vice-captain same like Official FPL
- Generally, there’s a 100 million budget for 15 players unless the particular gameweek challenge is around budget rules. For instance, the very first challenge in FPL GW30 is an unlimited budget. The GW31, and GW32 challenges have a 100 Million budget barrier.
- Player prices are the same from Official FPL but there will not be a concept of team value as it’s a weekly game.
- You can make unlimited changes before and during the Gameweek but these must be made before a player’s club starts their first match of the Gameweek; after this, they will be locked.
- This means that you can check out team news to see if your player is starting. If they’re not starting then you can transfer or sub in another player who hasn’t played or locked.
- Once a player is locked, you can no longer substitute or transfer them out of your team.
- A manager cannot change their captain once they are locked, nor can a manager captain a locked player.
- Managers are allowed to choose up to 5 players from a single premier league side.
- Since you need a minimum of three teams to pick a team the last deadline to make changes is before the last two games of the week kicks off
- If the last two games are kicking off at different times then you cannot rely on the team news of the last kick-off as the final deadline would have been passed already.
- You can create and join mini-leagues for FPL challenges similar to regular FPL. Also, there will be prizes each week for the top scorers.
What are the first three FPL Challenges?
- Gameweek 30: Unlimited Budget
- Gameweek 31: Forward Focus All forwards scoring DOUBLE points. If you captain a forward then 4X points
- Gameweek 32: Red Rivalry All players from Liverpool & Manchester United earn DOUBLE points
FPL Fantasy Challenge Tips
Auto-subs are allowed, and work the same way as in traditional FPL. There’s a loophole in the deadline rules which can enable you to maximize the chances of scoring maximum points.
- For instance, you can bench your best 4 players from the earliest fixtures possible
- Then you can fill your starting team with 4 players who play at a later deadline who will definitely not feature. This would be injured or suspended players
- If your benched players do well, don’t make any changes to your team. Since the players in the actual 11 won’t play the benched players will come in for them.
- If your benched players fail, replace the ‘injured or suspended’ players with actual good players who haven’t played yet/Locked
- Put the vice-captain chip on the player who plays before your captain, if in case your Vice-captain hauls then you can swap your captain to a non-playing player(Injured/Suspended) so that your Vice-captain then becomes your actual captain.
This scenario was found out by the Fantasy Football Legend @FPLMarcin via @FPL__Fran
Example scenario:
For GW30 you bench popular assets who play on Saturday like Trippier, Bowen, Palmer, Gusto etc. You can include injured/suspended players like TAA, McGinn, Shaw, Martial etc who’ll not play. Incase the players you have benched like Trippier, Bowen, Palmer, Gusto haul then leave your team as such so that they auto sub the injured or suspended.
If your benched players don’t haul then you can remove the injured/suspended players with players who have not yet played like Salah, Darwin, Saka etc.
