FPL GW29 Scout Picks
FPL GW29 Scout Picks – Goalkeeper
Flekken takes the gloves in our GW29 Scout Selection. Brentford have just kept one clean sheet since GW10, but it is about making the most of the fixtures in a Blank GW with only 8 teams playing. Burnley’s attack numbers are not great – Since GW24, Burnley have scored just 3 goals from 5 games- The lowest among all teams during this time. During this time, they are also ranked 20th in the league for xG, Big Chances, and Shots inside the box.
Brentford have 29% clean sheet odds for GW29– The highest among all the teams playing in GW29. Flekken is also Top for Saves made in the league since GW23.
Top Goal Keepers for saves since GW23:
- Flekken- 39
- Neto- 31
- Areola- 31
- Kaminski- 30
- Onana- 29
FPL GW29 Scout Picks – Defenders
Doughty starts the Defenders selection. Forest vs Luton is an important game for both teams in their relegation battle and is difficult to expect to clean sheets in these types of games. But Doughty is essential an attacker for Luton taking all the set pieces.
Doughty takes all the set pieces and corners for Luton. He is Top for xA(3.08), 2nd Highest for Chances created(31), and Big Chances created(7) among Defenders since GW15. In fact, Doughty is joint Top for Assists(8) among all players in the league since GW15.
Matchup alert: Forest have a weakness while defending set pieces. And Luton are just good at making set pieces work. Luton have scored 13 goals from set pieces this season- 3rd highest among all the teams.
Destiny Udogie is picked ahead of Porro in our scout picks this week, the main reason for the preference towards Udogie is because of the excellent matchup he has against Fulham. In the last six games, Fulham have conceded 36 chances down their right flank(2nd highest amongst all teams during the period), this is exactly where Udogie operates.
The Italian(65) has the second-best record in the league for touches in the box among defenders. Only James Tarkowski(67) has a better tally than the Spurs man. The latter has played nearly 500 minutes more than the former.
Reguilon rounds up the Defender Picks as the final pick. He missed GW28 due to an injury, but Thomas Frank confirmed that he is fit, and ready to play and was also spotted in training. As seen above, Burnley’s attack numbers are poor and hence the double-up. Along with this, Reguilon is also on some set pieces and has been very attacking on the eye test in the last few games.
Reguilon has 3 assists from the last 5 games and has also taken shots from good positions.
Reguilon- Rank among Defenders between GW23-GW27:
- Shots- Joint 2nd
- xA- 5th
- Assists- 1st
- xGI- 5th

FPL GW29 Scout Picks – Midfielders
The Sons- Heung Min Son and Maddison start as the Top Midfield Picks for GW29. Spurs have been one of the best attacking sides in the league with 59 goals scored this season- Only Arsenal, Liverpool and Man City have scored more goals this season.
Son has got 14 goals, and 8 assists(22 attacking returns) from 23 starts this season- Almost returning every game. Son is just coming on the back of a 17-point haul in GW28- 1 goal, 2 assists. Son is a must-own pick for this week no matter if you are on Free Hit or not. Son also takes up the armband in our GW29 Scout team!
Maddison is fully fit and is slowly hitting form with 4 returns from the last 6 games including the goal vs Villa in GW28. He is the creative backbone of this Spurs side and is also on corners and set pieces. On the eye test, he was also taking up good positions last game which was also highlighted by both Maddison and Ange on the post-match press conference.
Maddison and Ange on Maddison’s attacking positions:
Maddison- “I’ve been in the box a lot lately but it hasn’t been falling to me. The manager is always saying just keep making the runs. It was an unbelievable delivery from Pape Sarr, it was just about getting a foot to it. I love the way this manager wants us to play, I love the way the team plays, and the personnel on this side. It suits me. I feel like I’m getting somewhere close to my best again.”
Ange on Maddison- “Madders is one who has to be more advanced. We know he has the quality to score from just about anywhere. It was a really good goal. He attacked that area where we need players to attack. It was a great ball from Pape too. I’m really pleased with our goals. It’s stuff we work on and it’s great for those individuals today that they all contributed something.”
Elanga has been involved in 35% of Forest’s goals this season and he operates in the same position as Semenyo who registered a huge haul against Luton(Elanga’s opponents in GW29)
Luton are in a huge defensive injury crisis and have conceded 36 chances through the left flank(Most amongst all teams in the last six games). This is exactly where Elanga operates giving him a great matchup.
Only Watkins(10) and Haaland(12) have had more big chances than Elanga(7) since GW23, in the entire league. We have to bear in mind the fact that Elanga has played a mere 468 mins, whereas Watkins and Haaland have played 539 and 611 mins respectively.
Nuno on team news: “For sure I would change. After the game, it is easier to change” The Plan to play an extra midfielder vs Brighton did not work well for Forest(Elanga should start vs Luton)
Bowen blanked in GW28 vs Burnley. But he has returned in 2 games before that- Assist vs Everton and Hattrick vs Brentford. Bowen has been sort of an under-rated pick this season with 14 goals, and 3 assists this season. Only Salah(15) has more Goals than Bowen(14) among Midfielders. His underlying numbers are also good as Bowen(18) is only behind Salah(22) for Big Chances among Midfielders this season despite not being on penalties.

FPL GW29 Scout Picks – Forwards
Watkins has been having a phenomenal season with 16 goals, 15 assists, and 185 points this season. In fact, he is the Highest scoring FPL player this season. He is a no-brainer pick. But it is to be noted that Watkins was substituted in the midweek Europa Conference league win after just 33 minutes. But the Emery update(post-match) looks not so bad and we do gamble on him to start this week.
Emery on Watkins injury:
“We don’t know exactly. He could be available for Sunday, but it’s only a cut. We will wait and see tomorrow and Saturday”
Matchup alert: West Ham United have conceded 133 chances down the center this season- Highest among all the teams in the league. This is a matchup Watkins would surely relish.
Morris did unfortunately blank in both the games in GW28. He was unlucky as he had good underlying numbers across both the games- 0.9 xGI, 5 Shots inside the box, and 2 Big Chance involvements. Luton have scored in every game in the league since GW13. Morris has been involved in 34% of the goals Luton have scored this season and has been a Talisman. Expect more goals in a must-win relegation battle game for both these teams and Morris to be among them!
Toney rounds up the Scout Selection. Even though, he has blanked in 4 successive games those were all tough games- Man City, Arsenal, Chelsea and West Ham.
In GW29, He is up against a Burnley side who are leaky and have conceded 21 goals conceded from the last 8 games. Since GW21, Burnley are ranked 2nd worst for Goals conceded/90 in the league only behind Sheffield United. 90 minutes man, on penalties against one of the worst defensive sides in the league, you do back(or rather bet :P) Toney to be on the scoresheet in GW29.
