Top FPL GW22 Differential Picks to Consider Ahead of Deadline

It feels as though we have been away from FPL forever. That is because we are having an FPL deadline after nearly a fortnight. The FA Cup results haven’t given us FPL managers much info to work with. Therefore, we have to be extremely vigilant of using our transfers wisely. In this blog, we take a look at the Top six Differentials(<10% TSB) to consider ahead of the FPL GW22 Deadline.

FPL GW22 Differential Picks (<10% ownership)

James Maddison vs Brentford(H), £7.8m, TSB: 8.1%

FPL GW22 Differential Picks- James Maddison

James Maddison returned from injury last week in Spurs’ FA Cup tie against Man City. The former Leicester man played about 20 mins in Tottenham’s 1-0 defeat at the hands of the champions.

Spurs’ next four games are extremely attractive on paper. Apart from playing bottom half opposition in 3 out of their next 4 matches, Spurs also have a guaranteed fixture in blank game week 29. They are one of only 4 teams to have a confirmed fixture as it stands. The North London club go up against Fulham in that GW. Therefore, it is viable to bring in Spurs players, for the long run even with their blank in GW26.

Prior to his injury (until GW10), Maddison was the seventh top points scorer in FPL, with 62 points to his name. Only three players had registered more goal involvements than the Spurs man in that period. He was also joint top for key passes(31) and second only to Trippier for big chances created(6).

The 27-year old was one of the best players in the league before his injury. Now that he is back, we expect him to hit the ground running, as we have previously seen in his Leicester days when he recovered from injury.

Spurs’ FPL GW22 opponents Brentford are one of James Maddison’s favourite opponents. The Englishman has scored 4 goals against the Bees in his career. Only against Watford(5) and Southampton(5) has he netted more goals. Adding on to that, Maddison also scored in the reverse fixture between these two teams, back in Gameweek 1.

Ivan Toney vs Spurs(A), £8.0m, TSB: 4.3%

FPL GW22 Differential Picks- Toney

We didn’t need a second invitation, did we? Not only did Ivan Toney get a hattrick in a friendly prior to his first start of the season against Forest, he followed it up with a goal against Nuno’s men. That has meant that Toney is the fourth most transferred in player heading into FPL GW22.

FPL GW22 Differential Picks- Ivan Toney

Brentford’s fixtures are a bit of a mixed bag to say the least. However, the Bees have a double GW in Gameweek 25. They neither blank in GW26, nor do they blank in GW29. Essentially, as it stands, the London club is the only one to have a double in GW25, and to play in both GW26 and GW29.

In the games against teams Brentford are gonna face up in the coming weeks, Toney fared well in front of goal last season. He registered 5 goals in 10 matches, in spite of the tricky fixtures.

Furthermore, Toney’s FPL GW22 opponents- Spurs have the fifth worst record in the league for xGC. That record is worse in the last 4 GWs where the North London club are fourth worst for expected goals conceded.

Eberechi Eze vs Sheffield United(H), £6.0m, TSB: 3.3%

FPL GW22 Differential Picks- Eze

It has been an injury hit season for Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze so far. However, the Englishman has started each of the last three league games, playing 90 mins in two of them. It is the first time he has started 3 games on the trot since GW7.

Six of the Eagles’ next ten games have an FDR rating of 2. It is in these games that Crystal Palace tend to perform well. Four of Palace’s five wins so far this season have come in such matches. Eze registered an attacking return in three out of four wins.

The 25-year-old has scored in each of his last 2 starts at Selhurst Park. In fact, each of his 3 goals this season have come at home. In fact, 13 out of his 15 attacking returns last season came against the non big teams (traditional big 6 and Newcastle).

Roy Hodgson’s men take on the worst team in the league in terms of goals conceded, xGC, and big chances conceded. Besides, with Olise returning from injury, Palace’s chances and indeed Eze’s chances of doing well improves multifold!

Last time out

Eze registered his highest xGI in a single game this season of 1.09, when Crystal Palace played Sheffield United earlier in the season. However, he didn’t get an attacking return. He would want to put things right this time around.

Jan Paul van Hecke vs Luton(A), £4.0m, TSB: 2.3%

FPL GW22 Differential Picks- Van Hecke

After going 19 games without a clean sheet, Brighton have shut their opposition out in back to back games, against West Ham and Wolves. Van Hecke registered 14 points in this period. No other outfield player from Brighton got more in this pair of fixtures

FPL GW22- Van Hecke

The Seagulls’ upcoming run of games scream clean sheets. Van Hecke is the only player from Brighton to start every single league game since GW11.

Since FPL GW11, only five defenders have registered a better xG than Van Hecke. In fact, only three of them have had more shots in the box in this period than the Brighton man. In the last 4 GWs, only Gabriel has had more big chances than the Dutchman.

Furthermore, he went on to get an assist in the FA Cup game against Sheffield United last week. Given the form and indeed the upcoming fixtures, a big haul is definitely around the corner for the £4.0 Brighton defender.

Mohammed Kudus vs Bournemouth(H), £6.8m, TSB: 3.2%

FPL GW22 Differential Picks- Kudus

This is a week of returning players in FPL. Kudus returns from international duty after Ghana were eliminated from the African Cup of Nations. Prior to his departure, he had registered 8 attacking returns (5G 3A) in 9 league matches.

In fact, between GWs 11 and 19, Kudus was the second top points scorer in FPL, with 63 points, behind only Trent Alexander Arnold, who got 68 points in that period. The former Ajax man was also joint top in the league for goal involvements in the aforementioned time period.

While he was away on international duty, he scored 2 goals in 2 matches for Ghana. As a result, he is bang on form at the moment, and has been for a long while now. Now is the time to jump back on Kudus.

FPL GW22- Kudus

West Ham’s fixtures are a bit of a mixed bag until GW25. However, they did beat both Man United and Arsenal earlier in the season, with Kudus scoring against the former. In fact, Kudus registered 5 attacking returns (2G 3A) in 6 of the above matches (Kudus didn’t play against Bournemouth), when he faced them earlier in the season.

Raul Jimenez vs Everton(H), £5.2m, TSB: 1.7%

FPL GW22 Differential Picks- Jimenez

After having a really tough time in front of goal, post his horrific injury, Raul Jimenez finally seems to have gotten back his lost touch. The Mexican has scored 5 goals in his last 7 starts in the league. This is by far and away his best run in front of goal since the injury.

FPL GW22- Jimenez

Fulham have a good run of games coming up. Seven out of their next eight games have an FDR rating of 2 or 3. The Cottagers also have a guaranteed fixture in blank GW 29. Therefore, there is a lot of upside in picking Fulham players for the upcoming GWs.

Jimenez has had more shots in the box, more shots on target, more big chances, more points, more bonus points, than any of his compatriots since GW12. That is despite the fact that the Mexican missed 3 games due to suspension (well 4 as he got himself sent off very early against Newcastle).

Meanwhile, Everton are Raul Jimenez’s favourite opponent in front of goal. He has scored 5 goals in 7 matches against the Toffees. Sean Dyche’s men have not won any of their last 4 league matches, conceding 8 goals in the process.
