With UCL football returning this week, many fantasy managers will be hitting the Wildcard for UCL Fantasy MD3 following a MD2 Limitless. As this is also the chip strategy I am going for, I have written a guide outlining what teams and fixtures we should be targeting, as well as putting together some potential Wildcard drafts, and finally my own current draft with the dilemmas I am facing.

Why Wildcard for UCL Fantasy MD3?
The great thing about Wildcarding this week is that the next 2 matchdays will have exactly the same fixtures, just reversed. This really allows us to target teams that have a favourable two gameweeks coming up. We also have a lot more information about the kind of form teams are in, allowing us to drop popular picks that haven’t met expectations or pick up assets that have really surprised us.
The tricky thing to consider is that teams will start rotating in MD5 and 6 if they have sealed qualification. Also, this leaves you without a Wildcard beyond the group stages, where sometimes it can be helpful, especially if there are shock results and teams that you have really invested in are knocked out. However, you do get more transfers between each matchday in the knock-out stages, and I think the upside of attacking the upcoming fixtures is a great reason to Wildcard.
Fixtures / Teams to Target in UCL Fantasy Matchday 3 Wildcard
Bayern Munich
Bayern Munich are currently 2nd in the Bundesliga, with 23 goals in 8 games (2.88 per game). They face Viktoria Plzeň in MD3 and 4, who have conceded 7 goals in 2 UCL games.
Top picks from Bayern Munich are:
- Sané (£9.1m) – 3 goals and 1 assist in the Bundesliga; 2 goals in the UCL
- Kimmich (£6.6m) – 2 goals and 2 assists in the Bundesliga; 2 assists in the UCL
- Musiala (£7m) – 5 goals and 3 assists in the Bundesliga; 1 assist in the UCL
- Mané (£10.5m) does carry a higher price tag – he has 4 goals in the Bundesliga but no goal involvements in the UCL yet
- Davies (£5.5m) – he has just 1 assist in the Bundesliga and no goal involvements in the UCL, but with such a favourable fixture he could really haul
- Neuer (£6m) would be a good shout too, but Davies is a cheaper route into the Bayern defence with great attacking potential

Man City
Man City are currently averaging 3.29 goals per game in the Premier League and have 6 goals in 2 UCL games. Their next opponents, FC Copenhagen, are 9th in the Superliga, having conceded 17 goals in 10 games, and have 1 point in the UCL group stage so far.
- Haaland (£11.1m) definitely picks himself – he has 11 goals and 1 assist in 7 league games, as well as 3 goals in the UCL so far
- De Bruyne (£10.5m) is again in great form, with 6 assists in the Premier League and 2 in the UCL; and a further goal in the Premier League
FC Copenhagen are yet to score in the Champions League, and City have a few defensive assets that are worth consideration.
- Cancelo (£6.6m) is as close to nailed as you could get in City’s team – he has just 1 goal but no assists in the Premier League, but has 3 assists in 2 UCL games
- Dias (£5.6m) would also be a fairly nailed City defender for a cheaper price – he has a good set-piece threat, with 1 goal in the Champions League
- Ederson (£6m) carries a premium price tag, but a double-up on City’s defence could be a great move

Real Madrid
Real Madrid have scored 5 goals in 2 UCL games, and have favourable fixtures against Shakhtar Donetsk. Their players are likely to be great long-term holds.
- Vinícius Jr. (£10m) carries a premium price tag, but has 4 goals and 1 assist in 6 La Liga games, and has 1 goal and 1 assist in the UCL
- Valverde (£6.5m) is also a great value pick – he has 4 goal involvements (3 goals and 1 assist ) in La Liga, and 2 goal involvements (1 goal and 1 assist) in 2 UCL games
As well as this, Real Madrid are yet to concede a goal in the UCL so far, making their defensive assets great choices.
- Courtois (£6m) is a top pick, and has justified his premium price tag so far
- Players like Militão or Carvajal (both £5.5m) could also be good options here

Liverpool
Liverpool are definitely not in the greatest form right now, but they will be hoping to bounce back against Rangers, who have conceded 7 goals in their opening 2 UCL games.
- Salah (£11m) is yet to hit the form he had last season, but does have 2 goals and 2 assists in the Premier League, with a goal in the UCL against Ajax
- Díaz (£9m) is a cheaper alternative in Liverpool’s attack – he currently has 3 goals in the league and 1 goal in the UCL
Liverpool’s defensive assets are also worth considering given their favourable fixtures:
- Alexander-Arnold (£6.5m) could definitely come good in the next few games – he has just 1 goal so far in both competitions
- If you didn’t want to invest in Alexander-Arnold, then Matip (£5m) is definitely an option here – he has 1 goal this season in the UCL and does offer some set-piece threat. I would keep an eye on Konate’s fitness, and, particularly in the longer term, he could be rotated in these UCL games
- Alisson (£6m) is also an option here

PSG
PSG’s front three have been on fire, scoring 26 goals in 8 league games – averaging 3.25 goals per game – and have scored 5 in 2 UCL games. They currently sit in 2nd place in Ligue 1 (with a game in hand), winning 7 and drawing 1, and have favourable fixtures in MD3 and 4 against Benfica.
- Mbappé (£11.1m) has 7 goals in Ligue 1 and 3 goals in the UCL

- Messi (£10.5m) has 4 goals and 7 assists domestically; with 1 goal and 1 assist in the UCL so far
Benfica do sit at the top of Primeira Liga, but PSG will definitely be the favourites given their current form. Wing-backs Hakimi and Mendes will also have to be considered.
- Hakimi (£6m) has a premium price, but has 3 goal involvements (2 goals and 1 assist) in Ligue 1 and 1 assist in the UCL campaign so far
- Mendes (£5m) also has 3 goal involvements in the league (1 goal and 2 assists), with no returns in the UCL as of yet, but does offer a cheaper route into the PSG defence

Sporting Lisbon
Their budget-friendly defensive assets could provide great value for your team. Sporting currently have 3 clean sheets in 8 league games. Marseille are performing well in Ligue 1, sitting at the top of the table (having played 1 more game than PSG so far), but, following their opening wins, Sporting will be hoping to continue their great Champions League form.
- £4.5m keeper Adán has 2 clean sheets in 2 UCL games
- Porro (£5.2m) has 2 assists in 6 league matches, and 1 assist in the UCL
As well as this, Sporting have scored 2 goals in each of their UCL games, and are also averaging 2 goals per league game.
- In particular, Gonçalves (£7.5m) is in brilliant form, with 5 goals and 3 assists in the league and 2 assists in the UCL
- Edwards (£7.2m) is also a great differential – he has 3 goals and 2 assists in the Primeira Liga and 1 goal and 1 assist so far in the UCL

Tottenham will really be wanting to bounce back from a 2-0 loss to Sporting Lisbon, and they have back-to-back games against Eintracht Frankfurt, who are averaging 1.63 goals against in the Bundesliga.
- Kane (£10.5m) is yet to get a return in the UCL, but has a fantastic 7 goals and 1 assist in the Premier League so far
- Son (£10.5m) is also an option who is yet to get off the mark in the UCL, and has 3 goals and 1 assist in the Premier League

Juventus
Juventus have had disappointing opening losses to PSG and Benfica. In MD3 and 4, they face Maccabi Haifa, who have conceded 5 goals in 2 UCL games, so this could be a good time to jump on one or two Juventus differentials.
- Kostić (£5.5m) has 2 assists in Serie A and 1 assist in the UCL so far
- Milik (£7m) has 2 goals in 4 Serie matches and 1 goal so far in the UCL

UCL Fantasy Matchday 3 Wildcard Drafts
UCL Fantasy MD3 Wildcard Draft 1
- Includes 2 budget goalkeepers with great MD3 and 4 fixtures – Red Bull Salzburg have had two difficult games against AC Milan and Chelsea to start with, but at £4.5m Köhn is a great budget enabler alongside Adán
- A good selection of defenders from City, Juventus, PSG, and Bayern – all teams have great fixtures
- Emerson is a bit of a risk in defence but at his price he could really offer great value and is a good route into Tottenham’s defence – Reinildo (£4.5m) could also come in here, who isn’t very attacking but is a nailed starter for Atletico Madrid
- Considering Liverpool’s 3-3 draw to Brighton this weekend, Salah could definitely become Vinícius Jr. – this gives you the option to upgrade Emerson to Porro maybe or another Bayern defender, as we will have that line-up available to us
- Sané is in great form right now, and Edwards is a great differential
- Kudus has provided amazing value for his price tag – he has 4 goals in 8 league games, as well as 2 goals and 2 assists in 2 UCL matches
- Kvaratskhelia is also great value – he has 5 goals and 1 assist in 8 Serie A games and 1 assist so far in the UCL
- Premium strikers Haaland and Neymar are in brilliant form
- Jutglà at £5.5m is a great enabler – he is currently on 6 goals and 3 assists domestically, and has 1 goal and 1 assist in the UCL – he really allows you to invest in the popular premium options

UCL Fantasy MD3 Wildcard Draft 2
- Investments in strong defences – Real Madrid, Liverpool, Bayern Munich, Man City
- As before, Alexander-Arnold can be downgraded if you’re not convinced with Liverpool and Emerson can also then be upgraded potentially
- Guerreiro is a great budget defender – he has 1 goal each in the Bundesliga and UCL, and Sevilla are yet to get on the scoresheet in the UCL
- Some solid midfield picks, including Díaz as a cheaper alternative to Salah – but I would be wary of long-term rotation in the Liverpool squad
- Milik as the 3rd striker

UCL Fantasy MD3 Wildcard Draft 3
- Three premium strikers included here, with Kane in good form and having good fixtures
- Alternatively, Kane could be Lewandowski (£11.1m) – I haven’t discussed him yet considering the sheer amount of options, but he has 9 goals and 2 assists in La Liga, with a hat-trick in Barca’s opening UCL game
- Matip as a cheap route into the Liverpool defence as opposed to Alexander-Arnold’s premium price
- Porro and Guerreiro are also great budget-friendly options
- Dias as a fairly nailed City defender to save money to accommodate the three premiums up top
- Kimmich rather than Musiala to also save money, but he is in great form too
- Jota as a nice differential here – he is yet to get off the mark in the UCL, but has 4 goals and 5 assists in 8 league games

UCL Fantasy MD3 Wildcard Draft 4
- This is my current MD3 wildcard draft
- I have decided to go for a Juventus double-up
- I have invested in Mbappé over Neymar
- I’m not sure about Matip but would like a Liverpool asset – I could downgrade Musiala to Kimmich and upgrade Matip that way
- Valverde will definitely stay to cover Real Madrid – unfortunately I can’t fit in Vinícius Jr. due to his price
- I’ve gone with a slightly more expensive keeper duo as I wanted to cover Tottenham’s defence
- I think Kudus and Kvaratskhelia will definitely stay; as will Sané
