With the season gradually coming to an end, we are back with the Players to Buy, Hold or Sell series, ahead of Gameweek 32.
Players to Buy ahead of Gameweek 32
Mateta (5.2m)
Jean Mateta, the 5.2m, Crystal Palace forward is the first player on this week’s Players to buy list. He has been putting up great performances since past few weeks, and has really caught the attention of many FPL managers. Although he does not get full 90 minutes every week, at the price of 5.2m, its worth having him play till the hour mark and the occasional benchings.
GW24 – GW 27 | GW28 – GW31 | |
Minutes | 218 | 203 |
xG/90 | 0.15 | 0.67 |
xA/90 | 0.05 | 0.19 |
Big Chances / 90 | 0 | 0.89 |
Shots (Total) | 3 | 9 |
Shots on Target (Total) | 2 | 5 |
Even Mateta’s recent stats, as compared to between GW24-27, have improved exponentially. With almost similar minutes on the pitch, his xG/90 went from 0.15 to 0.67, and Big Chances/90 went from 0 to 0.89. Along with the improved underlying numbers, his fixtures also look good, all the way until the end of the season. They face Leicester, Newcastle, Leeds and Southampton, in the next four. It is also easy to have him as a bench player, with rotation risk players in your team.

Kevin De Bruyne (11.7m)
The next player in the players’ to buy list is none other than Manchester City’s midfielder, Kevin de Bruyne. He is an incredible player, and there’s seldom a reason to not have him in our teams. However, currently, he is just owned by 7.9% of the FPL Managers, being a reliable differential in the game. Also, at this stage of the season, every single game is crucial for both Manchester City and Liverpool, making him less of a rotation risk.
GW24 – GW 27 | GW28 – GW31 | |
Minutes | 270 | 248 |
xG/90 | 0.16 | 0.53 |
xA/90 | 0.23 | 0.36 |
Big Chances / 90 | 0 | 1 |
Shots (Total) | 3 | 10 |
Shots on Target (Total) | 3 | 7 |
KDB’s underlying numbers’ have also clearly gone up, as compared to the earlier Gameweeks. His xG/90 rose to 0.53 from 0.16, and Big Chances/90 to 1, from 0. His xA/90 also increased from 0.23 to 0.36. Even the volume of shots he took, more than tripled, at the same time, most of them being on Target. Coupled with the increased stats, he City have really great fixtures to end the season with. They face Brighton, Watford, Leeds, Newcastle, till Gameweek 36, after their game against Liverpool in GW 32. With a lot of people chasing their mini leagues, and looking for low owned premium players, KDB comes out as the perfect choice.

Players to Hold ahead of Gameweek 32
Gabriel Martinelli (5.3m)
Gabriel Martinelli is the first player under the Players to Hold list ahead of GW32. His returns fell off, as compared to some earlier weeks, and is getting benched quite often. However, it just might be worth holding him for a next few weeks, as he has a confirmed double in GW33. Lets see how his stats have changed over the weeks.
GW24 – GW 27 | GW28 – GW31 | |
Minutes | 140 | 286 |
xG/90 | 0.32 | 0.15 |
xA/90 | 0.1 | 0.13 |
Big Chances / 90 | 0.64 | 0 |
Shots (Total) | 4 | 6 |
Shots on Target (Total) | 1 | 2 |
Martinelli’s underlying numbers have indeed taken a turn for the worse. His xG/90 has fallen from 0.32 to 0.15, while his xA/90 has increased only marginally. The Big Chances/90 has gone down to 0, while he has taken 2 more shots in GW28-31, as compared to GW24-27. Concluding from the stats, it’s certainly not advisable to buy him right now. However, if you already have him in your team, holding him, at least for his double against Southampton and Chelsea in GW33.
Reece James (6.2m)
The next player under the Players to Hold list ahead of GW 32, is the community favourite, Reece James. It seemed that he was the most important player to own in the previous week, but he ended up starting on bench, against Brentford. Although, he is being eased back into the team, after recovering from injury, he should be back in the starting eleven from the next week onwards.
Chelsea face Southampton in GW32, after which they face, Arsenal, West Ham, Everton till GW35 and Wolves and Leeds in his double in GW36. With a lucrative double and decent fixtures till the end the season with, he is certainly worth holding, or even buying him after a few weeks.

Players to Sell ahead of Gameweek 32
Philippe Coutinho (7.3m)
The first player to make it to the Players to Sell list ahead off GW33, is Philippe Coutinho. He might not seem is as a sell to many managers, however, points could be maximised by removing him for his bad patch and the blank in GW33 and getting him back in before his GW35 fixture against Norwich and his d back to back doubles in GW36 and 37 against Burnley, Liverpool and Crystal Palace, Burnley respectively.
GW24 – GW 28 | GW29 – GW31 | |
Minutes | 502 | 254 |
xG/90 | 0.29 | 0.19 |
xA/90 | 0.4 | 0.09 |
Big Chances / 90 | 0.36 | 0 |
Shots (Total) | 17 | 7 |
Shots on Target (Total) | 6 | 3 |
From the underlying numbers’ above, it is clearly visible the dip in his per 90 stats. He was on a different level, when he joined the league, and scored a total of 46 points between GW24 and GW 28. However, along with his output, his numbers’ have fallen off as well, indicating that he should be a sell ahead of GW32. However, he should be sold with a plan to bring him back in GW35, as Villa have an amazing end to the season with two back to back doubles in GW36 and 37, and Norwich before that in GW35.

Kieran Tierney (5.1m)
The second player in the players to sell list is, Arsenal’s Kieran Tierney. He missed his fixture against Crystal Palace, last week due to injury, and his return date is unknown. In the 5.1m bracket, if managers have some money in the bank, he can be upgraded to one of the premium defenders’ available in the game like, Robertson, Trent (for those who removed him), or Cancelo.
Also, Tierney’s returns had been sporadic, returning only clean sheet points, for which Ben White or Ramsdale were the better options as they were able to attract the bonus points. He is owned by 11.3% of the managers, giving them an option to get a differential, and cover ranks in the most crucial part of the season.
