FPL GW9 Captaincy poll ~ Wisdom Of the Crowd

[Total_Soft_Poll id=”18″]

Romelu Lukaku was leading the poll by quite a margin until he suffered an ankle injury in the midweek Champions League game against Malmo, and Tuchel confirmed he could be out for a few days or games.

Hence, we’ve gone on and picked the other best 5 candidates picked by the Community through votes.

Liverpool’s Mohammed Salah, having one of the finest runs you would have seen in the Premier League in recent history, tops the polls yet again with 41.04% of the votes.

Liverpool’s star man is followed by Jamie Vardy (9.15%) and Kevin De Bruyne (2.37%). The candidates list is rounded up by Raphinha (2.03%) and Cristiano Ronaldo (1.94%).

Underlying Numbers of the Captaincy Candidates

FPL Gameweek 9 Captain Picks underlying numbers of captaincy candidates

Mohammed Salah tops our picks for Underlying Numbers as always. With 20 Shots Inside the Box, 8 Big Chances in total and an xG total of 4.72, the Egyptian leads the Attacking Stats factor for players.

Cristiano Ronaldo comes in behind Salah, with 16 Shots Inside the Box, 5 Big chances and an xG total of 3.67.

Jamie Vardy just about loses out to the Manchester United forward, having mustered 16 Shots Inside the Box, 6 Big Chances and an xG total of 3.62.

Raphinha has unimpressive numbers according to his standards in the last 6 matches, with just 6 Shots Inside the Box, 1 Big Chance and an xG of just 1.16

.

Kevin De Bruyne rounds up our picks when it comes to underlying attack numbers, managing 7 Shots Inside the Box, no Big Chances and an xG of 0.63, since his return to full fitness after being injured at the start of the season.

Underlying Numbers of the Candidates Teams

FPL Gameweek 9 Captain Picks underlying numbers of candidate teams

Liverpool have the best underlying numbers as a team in the last 6 games. An impressive total of 82 Shots Inside the Box and 26 Big Chances, helps in boosting their xG to 16.12, by far the best as compared to the teams in focus in this week’s analysis.

Manchester City come in second behind Liverpool with 80 Shots Inside the Box and 18 Big Chances in Total resulting in an xG of 12.27.

Manchester United come in third behind the reigning Champions, with 63 Shots Inside the Box, 15 Big Chances in Total, and an xG of 9.23.

Leicester City have the same xG as that of Manchester United’s (9.23) in the last 6 games, but their Shots Inside the box (53) and Big Chances (11) are fewer, hence taking a position below Manchester United.

Lastly, Leeds United seem to be posting underwhelming numbers for a Bielsa-side. With just 45 Shots Inside the Box, 6 Big Chances in Total and managing an xG of 6.50, Leeds take the final place when it comes to teams of our Captaincy Candidates and their numbers.

Fixture Difficulty of the candidate team in FPL GW9

FPL Gameweek 9 Captain Picks fixture difficulty

In the Third Phase of the Article, we look at the Fixture Difficulty of our 5 Candidates. We have used Drafthound’s Clean Sheet odds and the Odds of Conceding more than 2.5 goals. You can check out the same as well for free on Drafthound along with fixture analysis, predicted analysis, and more.

Brighton, who are facing Manchester City this week, have the weakest odds. Clean sheet odds of just 15% pretty much tells you that the bookies really fancy Manchester City to score at least one goal in this match. Brighton have also been given a 43% chance of conceding more than 2.5 goals this week, meaning City scoring 3 goals isn’t a far-fetched idea.

Manchester United come in behind Brighton, with 22% chance of keeping a CS and an 18%  chance of conceding more than 2.5 goals this week against Liverpool, as the bookies expect this one to not be an open game.

Wolves and Liverpool have been given similar CS odds (27% each). However, Wolves have been given a 22% chance of conceding more than 2.5 goals, while Liverpool have been given a 19% chance of conceding more than 2.5 goals.

Brentford have been given the best Clean sheets odds of 29% this week out of all the teams in focus here. However, it’s important to note that Brentford have also been given a 22% chance of conceding more than 2.5 goals, as the bookies find it difficult to read this Brentford side.

In the Fourth Phase of the article, I have used the Anytime Returns and Projected Points Tools available at Fantasy Football Hub. With the help of the Anytime Returns Tool, I have derived the Safety Rank, which helps in determining the Safest Captaincy Option of the week, while I have used the Projected Points Tool to determine the Explosion Rank, which helps in determining the Most Explosive Option of the week.

I have then averaged the Two Ranks to churn out the Average Rank Factor, which I have used to determine the Safest yet Explosive option.

Kevin De Bruyne, has the highest Anytime Returns Projections at 55%, while his Projected Points stand at 5.5 for the week.

The obvious Lukaku-replacement Jamie Vardy has the joint-highest Anytime Returns Projections at 55%, while his Projected points (5.3) just about lose out to De Bruyne’s Projected Points.

The popular pick of the week, Mohammed Salah has the third-highest Anytime Returns Projections at 48%, and his Projected Points at 5.0 seems to be one of the lowest you will see for him.

Leeds United’s Raphinha has an Anytime Returns Projections at 46% while his Projected Points at 4.5, just about gives him the fourth place.

Cristiano Ronaldo has an Anytime Returns Projections at 40% and Projected Points at 4.1, the lowest of all candidates assessed here.

Conclusion – Final Rank from our FPL Gameweek 9 Captaincy metric analysis

FPL Gameweek 9 Captain Picks final rank

In the Fifth and Final Phase of the article, I have aggregated the Ranks derived above to pull out the Cumulative Rank Factor (CRF). The Candidate having the lowest Cumulative Rank Factor is the most ideal Captaincy Option according to this metric.

Yet again this season, it’s Mohammed Salah who’s being picked by our Captaincy Model here for Gameweek 9, with a CRF value of 8, just about edging Kevin De Bruyne’s 9.

Jamie Vardy comes in behind Salah and De Bruyne with a CRF value of 12. Cristiano Ronaldo finishes fourth with a CRF value of 13, while Raphinha rounds up our picks with a CRF value of 15.
