The Must Have FPL Players On Your GW4 Wildcard Team

With a lot of managers activating their wildcard ahead of FPL GW4, we have decided to put out the seven essential players who we feel should form the core of your FPL GW4 wildcard team.

Must Have FPL players in your GW4 Wildcard Team

♦ Cristiano Ronaldo (£12.5 FWD)

FPL GW4 Wildcard Team ~ Essential players to have ~ Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo has re-signed for Man United and since FPL has announced his price, more than 1m managers have transferred him into their teams ahead of GW4, and is already owned by nearly 17% of FPL managers. Is he essential and a must-have in your squad? He absolutely is IMO. One of the greatest players of all time, he has scored 20+ goals in the league every season since he’s left Man Utd in 2009. He’s just broken Ali Daei’s record for the Top International Men’s goalscorer of all time! What else do you need, that just tells the whole story, he is so prolific, and even at the age of 36, he can still bang in goals for fun.

His next 3 opponents are Newcastle, West Ham, and Aston Villa. Only Villa have kept a CS so far this season out of these 3 teams. Newcastle have conceded 50 shots in total in the first 3 GWs and had an xGC of 7.65.
Whereas, despite West Ham’s fantastic start, they’ve shipped 5 goals. Villa haven’t looked good enough defensively so far this season and if Emi Martínez is not available for GW6 as well, Ronaldo might be the best captaincy option in that GW…

♦ Mohamed Salah (£12.5 MID)

FPL GW4 Wildcard Team ~ Essential players to have ~ Mo Salah

With all these debates over who to pick from the premium forwards and midfielders, removing Mo Salah from our teams shouldn’t even be a question. Since joining Liverpool in 2017, Salah has proved over the years why he is the best and the most consistent premium fantasy asset.

Liverpool face Leeds, Crystal Palace, and Brentford in their next three games which points towards Liverpool attackers to fire! Leeds have conceded 45 shots(19 SoT conceded) in their three games and Palace have conceded 41 shots(13 SoT conceded) in this period. Both are yet to win a game so far and are not the best defensive side! Leeds are brilliant to watch and they’ll keep playing the Bielsa way which is an All-Out Attack, thus they leave themselves very open at the back. Last season, Salah scored a hattrick against Leeds at Anfield and came on as a sub at Elland Road. Against Palace, he got that huge 16 point haul after coming on as a sub at Selhurst Park and got an assist at Anfield on the final weekend.

Tbf, Brentford at the Community Stadium will be a tough opponent given that they’ve started the season very well and have only conceded 1 goal in 3 games so far. But, they did concede 42 goals in 46 games last season in the Championship which is the most out of the three promoted clubs.

♦ Michael Antonio (£7.9m FWD)

FPL GW4 Wildcard Team ~ Essential players to have ~ Michail Antonio

Antonio has been the most in-form player in the Premier League so far this season. He has scored 4 goals & provided 4 assists in 3 games and has returned double-digit hauls in FPL in all of those matches. He has already risen by £0.4m and I’ve seen many people asking whether it is too late to jump on the Antonio Train, well, it’s never too late. If you haven’t owned Antonio yet and are thinking about what to do, then don’t overthink and just simply bring Antonio in. He is playing with such high confidence atm and he looks hungry for more. Antonio has taken 16 shots(7 of them on target) and has created 7 chances(3 big chances) in the first three games. You never know when he will pull his hamstrings next but don’t fear that and own him as soon as possible. If there are any issues with Antonio you can simply transfer him out for Bamford who is of a similar price and has good fixtures ahead as well…

West Ham still have some good fixtures coming up attacking-wise. They face Southampton away(they haven’t kept a CS so far), Leeds away(which could be anything), and Brentford at home in their next 4 games. They also have Man Utd in GW5 which won’t be easy but the way West Ham and in particular Antonio is playing they can beat any opponent on any given day.

♦ Trent Alexander Arnold (£7.5m DEF)

FPL GW4 Wildcard Team ~ Essential players to have ~ Trent Alexander Arnold

The highest-priced defender in the game is also the most valuable defender in the game. Regardless of the fixtures, Trent can haul in any given game. I have seen a lot of people ditching Trent in order to have funds to have 3 premium mids + fwds which is okay but I don’t think it’s necessary to make that move at all.

Trent has taken 5 attempts at goal(2 from inside the box) and has created 15 chances(3 of them being big chances) in the first 3 games. He has an assist, 2 CS, and 22 FPL points so far to his name, and as already mentioned above(in Mo Salah’s column) the next 3 fixtures of Liverpool could be good for attacking returns and with Liverpool being such a good side defensively as well, there’s always a chance of keeping a CS in any game. Palace have failed to score in 2 of their 3 matches so far so there’s a high chance of keeping a CS in that game. With the Liverpool-born right-back currently owned by around 33% of FPL managers(which I feel is a bit low), I think having him in the wildcard team is essential.

Before going further, Do vote in this week’s FPL GW4 allaboutfpl captaincy poll. The same will be available in the captaincy analysis and metrics blog written by@AK_FPL1. The metrics have been delivering consistently with a 100% record this year. Last week the metric predicted Antonio as the best captaincy candidate ahead of Salah, Son, and Kane and he scored a monster haul once again. Stay tuned for the GW4 Captaincy metric to see who tops it!

[Total_Soft_Poll id=”13″]

The results and the captaincy metric blog will be published soon based on the votes.

♦ Luke Shaw (£5.5m DEF)

FPL GW4 Wildcard Team ~ Essential players to have ~ Luke Shaw

I think having Shaw is essential because when you want to transfer in a Chelsea defender in GW7, you can do so by making one move. Plus, Man Utd’s next 3 fixtures are very good for attacking and 2 of those three are decent for CS chances. Newcastle at home is a good chance of a CS and Villa at home is a decent chance of a CS but you can’t say either of them are nailed on clean sheets as both sides are good attacking wise on their day!

Shaw has attempted 1 shot and has created 5 chances in the opening three GWs. He kept a clean sheet against Wolves and despite conceding against Southampton he picked up two bonus points. He’s been on superb form since the arrival of Alex Telles last season and he had a very good Euro campaign as well! The £5.5m bracket has lots of good options so keeping Shaw in the wildcard, changing to a Chelsea defender in GW7, then changing to Reguilón in GW12 could be a good strategy!

♦ Diogo Jota(£7.6m MID) & Mason Greenwood(£7.7m MID)

Some reports are saying that Bobby Firmino could be out for at least 2 weeks so I expect Jota to start the next two and I think owning him is very essential. Could be a great strategy to own him for the next 2-3 fixtures and then move him on when Firmino’s back.

Jota has started the first two games and has scored in both of them and looks very sharp! Jota has attempted 8 shots(7 inside the box), 4 of them being on target.

Greenwood has scored in each of the first three fixtures and has looked the most lively out of all the Man Utd attackers. With Ronaldo signing and with Daniel James’ departure, we could see Greenwood playing on the right wing, and against Newcastle, West Ham, and Aston Villa he could wreak havoc. The form that he’s in, there’s no question on why he can’t continue his goal-scoring streak even further. The Englishmen has attempted 11 shots(7 inside the box) and has started every game so far.

So, a question arises? If these two are essential, then should we go for both or settle for just one? I think if you can afford both then definitely go for both of them. If you want to choose only one then Jota is a bit more essential than Greenwood I feel.

♦ Valentino Livramento (£4.1m DEF)

FPL GW4 Wildcard Team ~ Essential players to have ~ Valentino Livramento

We all love £4m defenders, don’t we? Tino Livramento(now at £4.1m) has emerged as one of the very few nailed £4m defenders after the start of this season. After signing from Chelsea this summer, it was a bit surprising to see Ralph Hasenhüttl slotting Livramento straight into the starting lineup and replacing Kyle Walker-Peters in the process. But he’s repaid the manager’s faith in him as he’s had 3 very good performances in the first three GWs.

The 18-year-old Saints right-back has attempted 1 shot and has created three chances(1 big chance). He’s certainly passed the eye test. No clean sheets in the first three games for Southampton, but they’ve had a tough couple of fixtures to start the season as they faced Everton away, Man Utd at home, and Newcastle away in the first 3 GWs. 2 draws in 3 matches isn’t a bad outcome for the Saints considering they’ve lost some key players in the summer. They have a mixed run of fixtures but having a £4m-ish defender on the bench who regularly plays is key. I think his price will increase in the upcoming GWs as well so you can make a lot of value from there…

💎 SOME KEY FIXTURE RUNS TO LOOK AT & SOME OTHER PLAYERS WORTH CONSIDERING 💎

🦊 WOLVES 🦊

Wolves FPL fixtures from GW4 till GW14

From GW4 up until GW14, Wolves have one of the best set of fixtures on paper. They face none of the ‘Big 6’ teams during this period. Of course, there are no easy games in the Premier League but if you want to finish high up the table and be a Top 10-12 club then it’s these sort of fixtures that you’ve got to win, isn’t it? Except for Brentford’s two clean sheets, the remaining ten teams which Wolves face in this period have only kept 3 clean sheets in total combined, which says that an attacking team like Wolves should score a fair few goals in the upcoming weeks.

Wolves have lost all three of their games so far, all at a margin of 1-0. But it was amazing to see how Bruno Lage’s men not score a single goal in the three matches they’ve played so far as they’re only behind Liverpool and Man City in terms of shots attempted with 57. Wolves have played some cracking football against Spurs and Man Utd and those who’ve watched the game will say that they should’ve won both of those games. They missed lots of great chances to score with the likes of Traore, Trincão, Jimenez, Saïss, etc all going close. With these juicy fixtures coming up, I fully expect Wolves to turn on the style and finally start winning football matches. I see 4-5 good FPL assets from this team with the likes of José Sá(£5m GK), Romain Saïss(£5m DEF), Semedo(£4.9m DEF), Traore(£6m MID), Jiménez(£7.4m FWD) the best of the lot.

With Podence returning from injury, be a bit wary of Trincão as he might lose his starting place. Marcal(£4.5m DEF) has looked very good too but Ait Nouri might get his chance any time. Hwang Hee-Chan(£5.5m FWD) has signed from RB Leipzig so he will be involved in Wolves’ attack sometime soon as well…

⚪ LEEDS UNITED ⚪

Leeds United FPL fixture run from GW5 to GW10

Leeds have a great run of fixtures from GW5 to GW10 and I fully expect Marcelo Bielsa’s side to win at least 4 games during this period. Raphinha is the highest owned player from the Leeds team(16.4% owned) and is the best asset to own. As mentioned before, with the arrival of Daniel James, we could see Raphinha playing behind Bamford which could improve his attacking returns(maybe). With so many options in the forward line, I feel Patrick Bamford hasn’t been talked about much. Bamford has attempted 7 shots, created 2 chances, and is currently owned by 12.4% of FPL managers. He has a goal and an assist to his name so far and with these fixtures coming up, he could be a very good player to own!

I wouldn’t touch on Leeds defense apart from Luke Ayling(£4.5m DEF) as they are very open and concede a lot of goals. He scored a screamer on the opening GW away at Old Trafford and with the attacking mindset of Bielsa’s team, he could get more than 5 attacking returns this season. There are not many good £4.5m defensive options, that’s why I feel Ayling is the best player to own in that price bracket. Amazingly, Ayling didn’t get a single attacking return last season but he was very unlucky in not getting so…

📊 OTHER TEAMS 📊

Everton fixture run from FPL GW4

Everton have started the season very well and have a decent run of fixtures. Dominic Calvert Lewin(£8.2m FWD) is, particularly on many managers’ radar. He has scored 3 goals in the opening 3 GWs and has earned 5 bonus points in total. One thing to remember is that he is suffering from some niggly injuries since the start of this season. Demarai Gray(£5.6m MID) has scored 2 goals in the first 3 GWs and looks nailed.

Watford FPL fixture run form FPL GW4

Watford’s next 4 fixtures in terms of attack look very good as well. Ismaila Sarr(£6m MID) is owned by less than 5% of FPL managers. With Joao Pedro suffering from a knee injury, Sarr could be on penalties as well. Sarr was terrific against Villa on the opening GW, tearing apart that right flank, but he hasn’t done much in the last two GWs. With these great fixtures coming up he could provide some great value. Same with Emmanuel Dennis. The £5.2m striker has nailed down his spot in Watford’s starting XI and looked very lively against Aston Villa, getting a goal and an assist. Moussa Sissoko at £4.5m could be a very good budget enabler in your wildcard teams.

Arsenal fixture run from FPL GW4

Now, yes, you are seeing this right, I am talking about Arsenal. Yes, they lost all their first 3 games and are sitting rock bottom but their fixtures turn and they avoid any of last season’s top 5 in their next 6 GWs. They also have a North London Derby in GW6 which is always fiesty and could turn out to be a goalfest! If you want to take a punt on wildcard then Aubameyang(£9.9m FWD) & Kieran Tierney(£4.9m DEF) are the best options to choose from! Next game, they face Norwich at the Emirates, this could be the turning point of Arsenal’s season so I expect a big reaction from the Gunners.

Chelsea FPL fixtures from GW4

Also worth remembering that Chelsea have the best run of fixtures from GW7 to GW11 so Lukaku is absolutely essential(barring any injuries) during that period. Ronaldo to Lukaku could be very popular in GW7…
The Blues’ defense is one of the best(if not the best) in the league, so the likes of Rudiger, Reece James, Azpilicueta, or even Christensen could be very good picks from GW7. Nobody likes to make goalkeeper transfers but if your goalie is injured before GW7 then switching to Mendy could be a great strategy as well if you have the funds to do so…

🍟 MY CURRENT FPL GW4 WILDCARD DRAFT 🍟

FPL GW4 wildcard team

Wildcarding is team and manager-dependent. I don’t think it’s essential to wildcard at any GW. If your team is fine and you don’t need to wildcard then why would you wildcard… I just felt that my team needed 4-5 changes in the starting XI so wildcarding this GW was the perfect scenario for me!

Currently, I have around 6-7 players that are locked in for my wildcard team. Those players are José Sa, Trent Alexander Arnold, Livramento, Salah, Jota and Antonio… I think Shaw is almost locked in as well and my gut is saying to punt on Tierney so I think I will have him as well. Waiting for all the press conferences and players to be back from the international break now! Want some more news on Ronaldo, Lukaku, and some others before the GW4 deadline!

All the best everyone😀👍🙌
