FPL GW27 Tips – Key Questions/Dilemmas Answered

1) How do you plan for the upcoming double and blank gameweeks?

FPL GW27 Tips ~ How do you plan for the upcoming double and blank gameweeks?

The current confirmed Double and Blank Gameweek fixtures are as follows:

Double Gameweek 28
✅ BOU vs SHU(H), LUT(H)
✅ LUT vs CRY (A), BOU (A)

Fixtures going ahead in Blank Gameweek 29
✅ FUL vs TOT
✅ BUR vs BRE
✅ WHU vs AVL
✅ LUT vs NFO

Looking at the above fixtures, it makes sense to load up on Bournemouth and Luton for their Double in GW28, especially if you are Free Hitting in GW29. You can attack the fixtures in GW28 without having to worry about the GW29 blank.

If you are not Free Hitting, you can get 2-3 players from Bournemouth and Luton. Depending on your other players, you can take a call on whether to sell/keep the Bournemouth players for next week as they blank in GW29.

Another strategy is to play the Wildcard in GW27/28 and prepare for the Double in GW28 and Blank in GW29. This way, using one chip, you can attack both weeks while creating an overall balance for your team. The downside to this strategy is that your team may be exposed against Wildcarders/Free Hitters who will have the chip for later use, i.e. GW30/31, once we know the Doubles in GW34/37.

All of the above strategies can work, and it’s tough to pinpoint which one is the best right now. It depends on your team and the players you want to target for the next 2-3 weeks. Based on that, you can take a call.

2) Who are the best Bournemouth/Luton players to buy this week?

FPL GW27 Tips ~ Who are the best Bournemouth/Luton players to buy this week?

Bournemouth are a great team to target this week as they face Burnley, who are pretty leaky at the back. Dominic Solanke’s injury is not as bad as it seemed earlier, and he can very well feature against them this week. If not, you can buy him in GW28.

The fixtures for Bournemouth are excellent from an attacking sense, but it’s tricky to go for a second attacker. Tavernier, for me, is not an option anymore.

Instead, you can go for one of their defenders. Marcos Senesi is the standout pick at the back. He has 5 attacking returns this season and is the highest-scoring defender for Bournemouth. If you want an alternative or don’t have the funds, you can look at Illia Zabarnyi, who has started every game in the PL this season. I’d still prefer Senesi here!

Note: Senesi is on 8 yellow cards at the moment. If he reaches 10 yellow cards, there will be a two-game suspension. If you want to play safe you can go for the likes of Zabarnyi

Luton players have a slightly challenging game against Aston Villa, but you can still target them if you have no other fires to put out. Defensively, Luton is leaky, but Alfie Doughty is still a good pick. He is the standout defender pick in the Luton team and a great option if you are looking to replace players like Estupinan/Porro, etc.

Like Bournemouth, Luton’s midfield has no standout options, and you can skip them altogether. Instead, you can target their striker, Carlton Morris. He has looked solid up front and has 8 attacking returns (4G+4A) in his last 8 appearances.

3) Who are the best replacements for Hwang Hee-chan?

FPL GW27 Tips ~ Who are the best replacements for Hwang Hee-chan?

Hwang suffered a hamstring injury in the FA Cup game against Brighton, and according to Wolves manager Gary O’Neil, he is likely to be unavailable for the GW27 fixture against Newcastle.

With Wolves blanking in GW29 as well, it makes him an easy sell this week. Let’s look at a few replacement picks for Hwang.

Leon Bailey/Douglas Luiz (AVL)

Leon Bailey and Douglas Luiz did well for Aston Villa last week against Forest. Bailey scored 12 points (1G+1A), while Luiz scored a massive 15 points (2G). With fixtures against Luton and Spurs, both are likely to do well in attack. Plus, they also have a game in GW29, and in case you are not Free Hitting in GW29, both are good picks.

I’d go with Bailey out of two, as he provides a higher goal and overall attacking threat. His bonus points potential is lesser than Luiz’s, but I’d still go with him as he feels like a higher-ceiling player.

Jarrod Bowen (WHU)

Jarrod Bowen from West Ham is another excellent replacement pick. Bowen is costing £7.7m right now, so you will need some additional money to switch from Hwang. He scored a hattrick in his last game against Brentford and looked in good touch. Bowen is a sure-shot starter in the team when he is fit and has been involved in 42% of all West Ham’s goals this season in games he’s played.

With Paqueta also returning, signs look better for the West Ham attack. Also, with a fixture in GW29 Blank, Bowen looks like a perfect pick to go for right now.

Son Heung-min (TOT)

Son is the best replacement for Hwang if you can afford to make the switch. He ranks 4th for goals scored among all MIDs and has 18 attacking returns (12G+6A) for the season. The fixtures for Son in the medium look good, and he looks like a decent player to buy right now. Like Bowen, he also has a fixture in the Blank GW29.

Son is the most important player for Tottenham in attack and will likely be on penalties. He is a great differential pick if you have the money to buy him.

4) Who are the best defenders to own right now?

FPL GW27 Tips ~ Who are the best defenders to own right now?

It has been a difficult season for defenders in FPL. Kieran Trippier (107 points) is the highest-scoring defender, who is only joint 17th among the top-scoring players for the 2023/24 season.

This makes nailing the right ones even more trickier! There is a lot of value to be gained in other positions, and it’s okay to play with 3 defenders at the back right now.

Arsenal defenders Gabriel and Saliba are still the pick of the lot for me. Arsenal has the highest number of clean sheets this season, and both Gabriel and Saliba have scored goals from set pieces. If you are free-hitting in GW29, they are still solid options. A double-up is also a great strategy; double the advantage here.

In a scenario where you already have the Arsenal defenders and are looking to maximise the Double in GW28, you can look at Senesi from Bournemouth and Doughty from Luton. Don’t expect clean sheets from either, but they can provide you with some attacking returns. Doughty also plays in GW29 and gives you another player for that blank gameweek.

Tottenham and Aston Villa have decent fixtures and a game in GW29. Still, many of their defender options are injured or flagged right now. While they may not be options for GW27/28, you can target Udogie/Porro from Tottenham or Torres from Aston Villa. (depending on their fitness in GW29) Among the fit players right now, you can get Moreno/Cash from Villa.

That will be all from my side for this week! I wish you all the best for FPL Gameweek 27, and I will see you all next week.
