FPL Gameweek 16 Transfer Tips: Two Players to Buy, Hold & Sell

Are you feeling short of breath? Don’t worry your lungs are fine. You’re just out of breath owing to catching up on 3 FPL deadlines in a week’s time…and this is just the beginning of December. Gameweek 16 promises to be a firecracker with the Top 3 teams playing away from home and 2 fixtures involving 4 Top 6 teams playing each other.

So, let’s start with our BUY-HOLD-SELL article for this GW, sponsored by …. Well, nobody. We are poor, but you can help here if you want 😊

FPL Gameweek 16 Transfer Tips: Two Players to BUY

Brentford Defenders

Ben Mee (£4.8m) – DEF, Brentford – 2.0% TSB

Ethan Pinnock (£4.6m) – DEF, Brentford – 4.4% TSB

FPL Gameweek 16 Transfer Tips: Two Players to BUY- Brentford Defenders(Mee, Pinnock)

The only reason why Mbeumo doesn’t make this list are that he is ruled out for GW16 and “for weeks”.

Brentford face a Sheffield United side which seat rock bottom for almost every single defensive metric possible:-

  • 20th for Shots
  • 20th for Shots in the Box
  • 20th for Big Chances
  • 20th for xG
  • 20th for xGNP
  • 20th for xG Open Play
  • 20th for Goals scored

So, a clean sheet looks very likely for Brentford. But the interesting fact is defenders have wreaked havoc against SHU in the last two GWs

GW15 : Virgil van Dijk – 14 points, Trent Alexander-Arnold – 12 points

GW14: Jordan Beyer – 11 points, Charlie Taylor – 10 points

Key stat: Sheffield United have conceded 48 shots from Headers this season which is the 2nd highest among all the teams in the league.

Hence, Mee and Pinnock can be extremely smart ultra-differentials. Both have scored goals already this season and have similar xGIs. So, take your pick; although doubling up might be an overkill.

Hwang Hee-chan (£5.7m) – MID, Wolves – 8.0% TSB

FPL Gameweek 16 Transfer Tips: Two Players to BUY- Hwang Hee Chan

It is time to take “The Korean Guy” seriously. If we look at midfielders GW7 onwards, Hwang ranks

  • 2nd for FPL points
  • 2nd for Big Chances
  • 2nd for Goals Scored
  • 3rd for Goal Involvements

He scored in GW15 as well and faces Nottingham Forest in GW16 who have conceded 5 goals in the last match and 12 goals in the last 4 matches – losing all of them.

I suggest buying Hwang to gain an advantage over your mini-league rivals.

Note: Hwang is on four yellow cards and one yellow card away from suspension.

FPL Gameweek 16 Transfer Tips: Two Players to HOLD

Ollie Watkins (£8.4m) – FWD, Aston Villa – 37.7% TSB

FPL Gameweek 16 Transfer Tips: Two Players to HOLD- Ollie Watkins

Aston Villa has won 14 consecutive games at home. Even Man City was swept aside by Emery’s men. Just two stats are sufficient to understand the complete domination of Aston Villa against the champions

Next up for Watkins & co are league leaders Arsenal AT HOME, a team which was the last to defeat the Villains on their home turf. If Emery can win this one, this will be the first time in Villa’s history that they win 15 home games in a row. So for sure, there will be goals galore.

And if there will be goals, there will be Watkins….especially in home matches.

In home matches, Watkins has 10 goal contributions – the highest in the league so far. He faces an Arsenal defence which has conceded 3 goals in the last match. In fact Arteta’s men have kept just

  • 0 Clean Sheets in the last 2 matches
  • 1 Clean Sheet in the last 5 matches
  • 2 Clean Sheets in the last 7 matches

HOLD Watkins

Jarrod Bowen (£7.6m) – MID, West Ham – 17.4% TSB

FPL Gameweek 16 Transfer Tips: Two Players to HOLD- Jarod Bowen

More than 200,000 managers have sold Bowen ever since he picked up the injury. Till that point, Bowen was the 5th highest scorer in FPL. He still is the 3rd highest-scoring player in away matches. In GW 16, Bowen faces Fulham AWAY – a team that just managed their 1st clean sheet in GW15 after 9 matches.

Fulham defence is ranked:

  • 18th for Shots on Target conceded
  • 17th for Big Chances conceded
  • 17th for xG conceded
  • 15th for xGNP conceded
  • 14th for Goals conceded

Even beyond GW16, Bowen is a hold. West Ham are ranked 3rd in terms of FDR for GWs 16-17

So if you have Bowen in your team still, HOLD

Crystal Palace Defence

Marc Guéhi (£4.7m) – DEF, Crystal Palace – 5.2% TSB

Joachim Andersen (£5.1m) – DEF, Crystal Palace – 23.0% TSB

Tyrick Mitchell (£4.7m) – DEF, Crystal Palace – 7.3% TSB

Sam Johnstone (£4.7m) – GKP, Crystal Palace – 6.2% TSB

FPL Gameweek 16 Transfer Tips: Two Players to SELL- Crystal Palace Defenders

Crystal Palace has only 1 Clean Sheet in the last 7 games. The fact that they have a horrendous fixture list in the short, medium and long term doesn’t help either. Palace are ranked 20th in terms of FDR for the next

  • 2 GWs
  • 3 GWs
  • 4 GWs
  • 5 GWs
  • 6 GWs
  • 7 GWs
  • 8 GWs
  • 9 GWs

I would recommend moving the Eagles on from your team.

Rúben Dias (£5.5m) – DEF, Man City – 7.1% TSB

FPL Gameweek 16 Transfer Tips: Two Players to SELL- Ruben Dias

If you’re paying £5.5m for a Man City defender, the last thing you would expect is him to be out of the Top 40 defenders in FPL.

Man City has been shambolic this season. They are without a win in 4 games with just 3 wins in the last 9 matches.

Apart from Cancelo, what Man City defenders used to provide was Clean Sheets on a consistent basis. This season they have only

  • 4 Clean Sheets in 15 games
  • 2 Clean Sheets in the last 13 games
  • 1 Clean Sheet in the last 9 games
  • 0 Clean Sheets in the last 5 games

Lastly, Man City has blank fixture in GW18.

I know selling Dias sounds suicidal as Man City faces Luton in GW16. However, Luton has scored against all the teams which are above Man City in the table – Arsenal, Liverpool and Aston Villa

So you can sell Dias – a soft sell, not a necessary/ hard sell by any means.
