Welcome back to another captaincy metrics blog, Haaland is playing Arsenal away from home and blanked in GW7. Salah(vs Brighton(A)) and Son(vs Luton(A)) have good fixtures and are also amongst the top FPL Gameweek 8 Captain Picks. Let’s see who tops the captaincy metrics this week, will it be Haaland again or will Son/Salah dethrone the Norwegian Robot?

FPL GW8 Captaincy Metrics
FPL GW8 Captaincy poll ~ Wisdom Of the Crowd
Son comes out on top of the captaincy poll for FPL Gameweek 8 with 68% of the votes. Maddison is second with 11% of the votes, Salah is 3rd with 8% of the votes. The top five are rounded off by Haaland(Not often you’ll see Haaland as the 4th popular option on the poll) and Nunez!

Underlying Numbers of the FPL Gameweek 8 Captain picks
Erling Haaland tops our picks for Underlying Numbers. With 28 Shots Inside the Box, 14 Big Chances in total, and an xG total of 7.37, he leads the Attacking Stats factor for players in consideration.
Mohammed Salah comes in behind Haaland for Underlying Numbers. With 12 Shots Inside the Box, 5 Big Chances in total, and an xG total of 3.51. He has created a whopping 15 chances in the last six games which is the joint highest amongst the five players.
Son, with 12 Shots Inside the Box, 6 Big chances, and an xG total of 2.84, takes the third spot.
Salah’s teammate Nunez comes fourth behind Son with 11 Shots Inside the Box, 8 Big Chances, and an xG total of 2.64. (Do note Nunez minutes are considerably less than the other options over the last 6 games)
James Maddison gets the last place with 9 Shots Inside the Box, 2 Big Chances, and an xG of 1.88

Underlying Numbers of the Candidate’s Teams
Liverpool have the best underlying numbers of the teams in comparison to the last 6 games. A total of 68 Shots Inside the Box and 22 Big Chances, helps in boosting their xG to 13.29, which is the highest of all teams in question.
Man City come in behind Liverpool, with 71 Shots Inside the Box, 18 Big Chances in Total, and xG at 12.69.
West Ham come behind Liverpool with 49 Shots Inside the Box, 16 Big Chances in Total, and an xG of 9.17.
Spurs take the last spot with 74 Shots Inside the Box, 20 Big Chances in Total, and an xG of 11.90. All three teams are pretty close in terms of xG over the last six games!

Fixture Difficulty of the candidate team in FPL GW8
In the Third Phase of the Article, we look at the Fixture Difficulty of our 5 Candidates.
We will use Drafthound’s odds for a Team scoring at least one goal in the Gameweek and the Odds of Scoring more than 2.0 goals in the Gameweek as a whole.
Spurs take the first spot, with an 87% chance of scoring at least 1 goal this Gameweek and a 42% chance of scoring more than 2 goals this Gameweek vs Luton Town.
Liverpool are behind Spurs with an 85% chance of scoring at least 1 goal this week, and a 36% chance of scoring more than 2 goals vs Brighton.
Man City only have a 75% chance of scoring at least 1 goal this week, and a 22% chance of scoring more than 2 goals due to the fact that they play Arsenal this week!

Projections Rank of our FPL Gameweek 8 Captain Picks
In the Fourth Phase of the article, I have used the Anytime Returns and Projected Points Tools available at Fantasy Football Hub. With the help of the Anytime Returns Tool, I have derived the Safety Rank, which helps in determining the Safest Captaincy Option of the week, while I have used the Projected Points Tool to determine the Explosion Rank, which helps in determining the Most Explosive Option of the week.
Erling Haaland has the highest Anytime Returns Projections at 70%, while his Projected Points stand at 7.5 for the week.
Son has an Anytime Returns Projection at 64%, and the Projected Points at 6.7 this week, giving him the second spot.
Mohammed Salah has an Anytime Returns Projections at 58% and Projected Points at 6.0, which puts him 3rd in this table.
Nunez has an Anytime Returns Projections at 60% and Projected Points at 4.1, which puts him in fourth place.
Lastly, Maddison has an Anytime Returns Projections of 53% while the Projected Points stand at 5.5 pushing him to the last spot.

Conclusion – Final Rank from our FPL Gameweek 8 Captaincy metric analysis
In the Fifth and Final Phase of the article, I have aggregated the Ranks derived above to pull out the Cumulative Rank Factor (CRF). The Candidate having the lowest Cumulative Rank Factor is the most ideal Captaincy Option according to this metric.
Salah tops the metrics with a CRF of nine, finishing above Son and Haaland who end up with a CRF of 10. Nunez is fourth with a cumulative rank factor of 12 whereas Maddison finishes last with a CRF of 15!
