FPL GW5 Scout Picks

All Stats used in the article are from Fantasy Football Hub.

FPL GW5 Scout Picks- Goalkeeper

FPL GW5 Scout Picks- Goalkeeper

Everton have failed to score in 3/4 games this season and have managed to score only 2 goals(Both coming against Sheffield United)- The least Goals scored by any team in the league. They are struggling for goals and it is a good opportunity for Arsenal and Ramsdale to convert their good underlying numbers(Second best xGC in the league) to clean sheets.

FPL GW4 Scout Picks- Defenders

Udogie is up against one of the worst attacks in the league this season, Sheffield United have scored only 4 goals in 4 games from an xG of 2.87(2nd lowest in the League). He is also very attacking having picked up two assists in the last two games. Sheffield have also conceded the 2nd highest xGC(9.47) amongst all teams and Udogie could have both attacking and defensive return from this game.

Matty Cash is the 3rd highest-scoring defender and he is also first amongst defenders for xGI(2.44). Crystal Palace have also conceded 16 chances from their left zone which is where Matty Cash operates giving him a great matchup.

Gusto is the final defender pick in our GW5 Scout Selection. Yes, Reece James is back in training but he isn’t likely to start and Chelsea manager Pochettino has added that he’s hopefully of seeing him return before the next international break(After GW8 and before GW9)

FPL GW4 Scout Picks- Midfielders

FPL GW4 Scout Picks- Midfielders

The Top midfielders for Gameweek 5 are Spurs duo of Maddison and Son who are up against Sheffield United. Spurs are in brilliant form scoring 11 goals from 4 games which is the 2nd highest among all teams. On the other hand, Sheffield United have conceded the Most Shots, 2nd most shots inside the box, 4th worst xGC in the league.

After 3 games of persisting with Richarlison as a striker and Son on the left, Postecoglou went for Son as a striker in GW4 who bagged a brilliant hat trick and a 20-point haul. He is likely to slot as a striker again in GW5 and should be one of your Top Transfer Targets. Son is also a shout for a Differential Captain choice this week.

Son- GW1 to GW3(Playing on the left) vs GW4(Playing as striker):

  • Shots- 5 vs 5
  • xG- 0.27 vs 1.09
  • Big Chances- 0 vs 2
  • xA- 1.17 vs 0.19
  • FPL Points- 8 vs 20

Maddison has been the more consistent midfielder with 9, 3, 10, and 7-point returns in the first 4 Gameweeks with 2 goals and 2 assists. His underlying numbers from 4 games are also really good- 2.05 xG, 1.46 xA.

Against a low-block like Sheffield United where Spurs would have a huge amount of possession, the creativity of Maddison would be key in GW5. Maddison also takes set pieces and Sheffield are vulnerable from conceding there as they have conceded the most shots from headers(19) this season.

Salah has not blanked in the last 10 games for Liverpool and has been consistently returning but hasn’t gone big yet. However, he could go big this week vs Wolves. Salah has a great matchup with Wolves conceding the 4th most chances(17) from the Left zone which is where Salah operates. Wolves have conceded a whopping 15 big chances in four games which is the 2nd most in the league. Their xGC of 7.87 is also the 5th worst in the league so far this season,

Sterling rounds up the midfield who is up against Bournemouth. He got a 19 point haul(2 goals, 1 assists) vs Luton in GW3 but blanked in GW4. Chelsea did not score vs Forest in GW4 who set up a low block. But Bournemouth are expected to attack more which is likely to leave spaces for Sterling and Jackson to run in and take shots. Both Sterling and Jackson are good options this week.

Bournemouth defensive record:

  • 3rd worst xGC
  • 4th most Big chances conceded
  • 2nd most Shots conceded

Haaland– The 92% owned Robot is simply a no-brainer. Haaland looked in great touch once again after the 20-point haul in GW4 where he got 3 goals and an assist. He also takes up the armband this week. It is really tough to predict against this man who also has the underlying numbers- xG, Big Chances, Shots, and Shots inside the box.

Awoniyi is a great Differential at just 5.2% ownership consistently scoring goals. He has not blanked in the last 8 Premier League games- 9 goals, 1 assist, 63 points, averaging 7.87 FPL Points/game.

FPL Points(Since GW35 last season till now)

  • Mbeumo- 64
  • Awoniyi- 63
  • Salah- 55
  • Haaland- 54
  • Bruno- 47
  • Maddison- 43
  • Mitoma- 41
  • Odegaard- 39
  • Saka- 38
  • Rashford- 30

The above numbers suggest that he has been consistent for a while. He has already scored against Arsenal & United this season and is up against Burnley in GW5 who have conceded the most goals(11) this season despite playing only 3 games.

Gabriel Jesus is the final pick in our GW5 Scout Picks article. He marked his return from injury in GW4 vs Manchester United with a substitute appearance and a goal. He is up against Everton against whom he has scored 8 goals from 9 league games. More on Jesus in our FPL GW5 Differentials article!
