While we thought GW5 to be a lull, it was in fact the calm before the storm. GW6 showered points. The average points shot up from 44 in GW5 to 68 in GW6. SHU assets came to party, so did Ange Postecoglou’s “Son”-s and some of the other popular assets like Salah, Bruno, Saka and Watkins. A lot to look forward to in GW7 including the first DGW of the season.
So, let’s start with our BUY-HOLD-SELL article for this GW, sponsored by …. Well, nobody. We are poor, but you can help here if you want 😊

James Ward-Prowse (£6.2m) – MID, West Ham – 10.9% TSB
What a battering it was at home for Paul Heckingbottom’s boys. But to be fair, it was long time coming. Going into GW6, Sheffield United were 19th for both xG Conceded and xGNP Conceded. So, a goal fest was not a surprise, although nobody would have predicted E-I-G-H-T.
Sheffield rank 19th in terms of crosses conceded and 20th in terms of shots from headers conceded. In fact, we saw this in GW6 too as Botman and Burn scored headers and Trippier got 3 assists and scored 18 points. This is the reason why it might be worthwhile to bring in James Ward-Prowse in your team.
Ward-Prowse has returned for every game before blanking for the first time against Liverpool. He has 24 crosses between GW2-6 (he didn’t play GW1). Amongst WHU players, the player with the 2nd most crosses is Coufal – 12. He has also taken 20 corners and 4 Free Kicks. The next best being 1 corner (Bowen) and 0 FK.
He has 5 goal involvements (2 goals & 3 assists) which surpasses even the talisman Bowen (3 goals, 1 assist). In fact, he even leads Bowen on FPL points.
I won’t be surprised if JWP hauls in GW7.
Kieran Trippier (£6.6m) – DEF, Newcastle – 34.8% TSB
After 4 blanks, it took just 2 games for Trippier to become the highest scoring defender – such is his explosiveness.
After facing Aston Villa, Manchester City, Liverpool and Brighton in the first 4 fixtures, (Top 4 teams in terms of xG), Newcastle’s nightmarish run of fixtures is over. Newcastle’s next 4 matches are against teams in the bottom half of the table in terms of xG. In fact, the next match is against Burnley who rank 20th in terms of xG.
Last season, Trippier was the highest-scoring defender courtesy highest xGI as well as highest number of Clean Sheets. In the last match, he got both – 3 assists and a Clean Sheet resulting in a mammoth 18 points.
However, the Burnley game is sandwiched between matches against Man City and PSG.
But thankfully, Trippier was an unused substitute against City in the League Cup. So mostly he will start against Burnley. Unless Trippier falls victim to Howe’s rotation, we can expect the Englishman to have another mega haul on Saturday.

FPL Gameweek 7 Transfer Tips: Two Players to HOLD
Jordan Pickford (£4.4m) – GKP, Everton – 9.7% TSB
Some of us are still holding Pickford. And this might be finally the GW when he returns. Everton has the highest odds for a Clean Sheet. They are playing Luton who have scored the least number of goals so far with the least Shots on Target.
This also means there might not be too many Bonus Points and Save Points for him. But even a 6 pointer would be a relief for all those managers who have kept faith in Pickford for so long.

Julián Álvarez (£7.0m) – FWD, Man City – 31.1% TSB
Alvarez was the most bought in player for GW6. However, staying true to the ongoing “Curse of the Most Transferred In Player” he blanked. That has resulted in a rage sell with over 73,000 managers opting to sell him. In fact, he is the 3rd most sold unflagged FWD this week (after Wissa & João Pedro). But does 1 failure make the Argentine a bad asset?
Among FWDs. Alvarez is:
- 1st for Assists
- 1st for Final 3rd Passes
- 1st for Successful Final 3rd Passes
- 1st for Crosses
- 1st for Successful Crosses
- 1st for Corners
- 1st for Free Kicks
- 1st for Key Passes
Alvarez faces Wolves who ranks
- 16th for xG Conceded
- 17th for xGNP Conceded
- 17th for Shots Conceded
- 18th for Big Chances Conceded
- 18th for Shots on Target Conceded
- 18th for Goals Conceded
- 19th for Shots in Box Conceded
Alvarez remains a good asset to HOLD despite blanking in GW6. Agreed, he is more of a creator now than a scorer but with a fully rested Haaland to finish his chances, he might still be a good asset to hold.
However, the only factor that might work against him is he played 73 min against Newcastle in the League Cup, a match in which Grealish started as well.
City have 3 matches in 9 days. With an UCL match and a league encounter with Arsenal, if Pep decides to rest Alvarez, it might be this match. Point to note – Haaland was an unused sub, Foden came on for Alvarez for 17 mins and Doku came in for Kovacic for 22 mins against Newcastle. So the Argentine played the most mins among the 4 attackers who started GW6.

FPL Gameweek 7 Transfer Tips: Two Players to SELL
Chelsea Assets
Ben Chilwell (£5.6m) – DEF, Chelsea – 22.6% TSB
Nicolas Jackson (£6.9m) – FWD, Chelsea – 8.1% TSB
Malo Gusto (£4.3m) – DEF, Chelsea – 12.6% TSB
Chelsea assets have imploded ever since the Luton game, and they have hit the nadir this week. Both Jackson and Gusto are suspended. Chilwell has been benched in two successive games and now has a hamstring issue.
Chelsea’s fixtures swing for the worse after the international break.
However, just before that they have two amazing games against Fulham (A) and Burnley (A) – which is why another underperforming asset Sterling is not a part of this SELL list.
But Chilwell, Jackson and Gusto are mostly out of the Fulham game, with Gusto confirmed to miss the Burnley game as well. Too many good assets have emerged who can replace the Men in Blue. Even if you hold the Chelsea players, it’s just for 1-2 weeks. Hence, I feel it’s not worth it. It’s better to cut the losses and move on.

Pervis Estupiñán (£5.3m) – DEF, Brighton – 62.4% TSB
Estupiñán is still the highest owned defender and 3rd highest owned player after Haaland and Saka. However, he has not recorded a single Clean Sheet this campaign. Brighton is missing Colwill and Caicedo.
Sure, he has managed a goal and 3 assists in this time. But with fixtures turning for BHA, his time maybe out, at least for the short term.
Last but not the least, there are European commitments which will imply heavy rotation as De Zerbi has openly confessed to.
Newcastle, Aston Villa, Spurs and West Ham have very good fixtures between now and GW10, post which Estupiñán will again come into contention. See you in November, Mr. Estupiñán.
