Pros and Cons of FPL GW7 Wildcard

Pros of FPL GW7 Wildcard:

  • Get performing players like Newcastle defenders(Botman/Trippier), Salah, Son, and Maddison if you don’t have them already.
  • Tottenham are out of the Carabao Cup and are not involved in Europe either. They are good in form. It can help to get players like Son, Udogie, and Maddison right away.
  • Getting to Liverpool attackers easily before everyone jumps on GW8/GW9. Or have a plan to get them by GW8/GW9
  • Can Target Newcastle, particularly defense(even double up)
  • Fix the GKs- Leno/Areola(Good rotation). or even go Areola/Turner. Areola has good fixtures from GW10 that he can be the first-choice set and forget keeper in your FPL team.

Cons of FPL GW7 Wildcard:

  • Six games might still be a sample space to judge. Some players who were unlucky and had good underlying numbers can come good in the coming weeks.
  • The team you are going to make in the GW7 Wildcard draft should hold you good until GW20
  • Need to make calls on Manchester United midfielders(Rashford, Bruno)- Good fixtures coming up but their form is still not so great
  • Can go without Son/Spurs till GW7 and get Spurs on GW8 Wildcard.
  • Need to plan your team for the future when most of the other managers are wildcarding around GW8/GW9.

FPL GW7 Wildcard Drafts

Note: Budget may vary for every manager based on their team value, if you fall short by 0.1/0.2 go for an alternative at that price point from the players to target list above.

Note: Saka is a doubt for the Bournemouth game. If he’s out you can replace him with Maddison/Bowen/Bruno in the below drafts. The fifth draft is also a no-Saka draft if you scroll to the last part of the blog!

FPL GW7 Wildcard Draft 1

FPL GW7 Wildcard Draft 1
  • We have Areola and Neto as our goalkeepers in this wildcard draft, Areola is 2nd amongst all keepers for saves and Neto is 4th amongst all keepers for saves. Both Bournemouth and West Ham have had tough fixtures but have a good fixture swing coming up.
Goal keepers with the most saves so far this season ahead of FPL GW7
  • If you rotate them correctly till GW19, you will have-
    • 0/13 games vs Last season Top 8✅
    • 5/13 games vs Last Season 9th-12th placed teams✅
    • 8/13 games vs Last Season 13th-17th placed & Newly Promoted Teams✅

Defenders:

  • It’s without a surprise that you’ll notice a double-up on Botman and Trippier. Trippier picked up three assists and registered 18 points in GW6, Botman meanwhile scored his first PL goal and picked up 12 points. The Magpies have great defensive numbers which can be seen below and also good fixtures coming up!
Newcastle defence numbers

Big Chances conceded: 5(Lowest in the League)
xGC(Expected goals conceded): 6.39(4th lowest in the League)
Goals conceded: 7(Joint 5th lowest)
  • Trippier(17) is also top for Chances created overall amongst defenders. His xA of (1.47) is also the highest amongst defenders
  • Issa Kabore got his first attacking return of the season. The Luton defender has created 3 big chances in the league, the 2nd most in the league for defenders only behind Estupinan. Burnley have had only five big chances in five games(Lowest in the League) which gives Luton a decent chance of a clean sheet too!
  • Udogie and Cash are amongst the in-form defenders in the league so far this season, Cash(3.18) has the highest xGI of the season amongst defenders and Udogie has two assists already this season and Spurs are an attacking side with a run of great fixtures from GW8

Midfielders

  • Salah and Saka are pretty much a lock-in if you’re wildcarding. Salah has returned in all games so far this season(5 Assists + 2 Goals) and in fact, has not blanked since DGW34 of last season. Salah has a great fixture run from GW9 onwards but you can get him in early before the other Wildcarders catch up.
  • Saka has 5 goals contributions from an xGI of 5.12(GW1-6) which is the 5th highest amongst all players.
  • Gordon is an exciting option in a GW7 Wildcard, he has racked up an xGI of 1.10 vs Sheffield without being on penalties. Barnes is expected to be out for a while which means Gordon’s minutes are fairly secure. The only caveat is that he’s on four yellow cards one away from a one-game suspension.
  • Madders has excellent fixtures in the long run and is playing for a really attacking Spurs side, he has 2 goals and 4 assists from an xGI of 4.06 which is the 5th highest amongst midfielders.

Spurs have good fixtures from GW7- GW12 with the exception of Liverpool(H) in GW7. But the Liverpool fixture is still good for Spurs attackers, Liverpool defence is still not strong like previous seasons and they have a poor record away from home. Another point to be noted is that Liverpool will have a cup game before playing Spurs in GW7 while Spurs will have good rest and time to recover as they are out of the Carabao Cup.

SpursGW6 vs Arsenal(A)RestGW7 vs Liverpool(H)
LiverpoolGW5 vs West Ham(H)EFL Cup vs LeicesterGW8 vs Tottenham(A)
  • Ward Prowse is the last midfielder in the draft, he has 2 goals and 3 assists in five games for the Hammers. JWP is up against Sheffield United in GW7, the Blades have conceded the highest xG from set play this season(3.6) and he has a great attacking potential from set play. The tall Newcastle defenders benefited from this in GW6 with Trippier racking up the assists, JWP could well be the Trippier this week!

Forwards:

  • Morris has scored two goals(Both pens) and has a double gameweek coming up. Not a lot of underlying stats that can backup his selection but a double gameweek plus penalties is a tempting factor. Also, Luton generally don’t score a lot and if he’s on the score sheet he’s also most likely to pick up 3 bonus too like in GW6 vs Wolves!
  • Alvarez was the most transferred in player ahead of GW6, but returned only one point. He was not to be blamed as Man City were down to 10 man and he was subbed early due to tactical reasons. Alvarez is also Man City’s corner taker and direct free-kick taker this season and offers excellent value at 7.0 Million. Haaland doesn’t need an explanation to wrap up this draft!

Slight Alternative to the above draft

FPL GW7 Wildcard Draft 2
  • Similar draft to the above one with the exception being Neto being downgraded to a non-paying goalkeeper and Ward Prowse becoming Bowen.

FPL GW7 Wildcard Draft 2

FPL GW7 Wildcard Draft 3
  • A 3-5-2 draft with Son, Trippier, Salah and Haaland
  • Leno is the other keeper in this draft, he’s a bonus and save-points monster racking up points consistently. This season Fulham are struggling for goals and with his Saves Leno is consistently making it to the bonus/BPS in most game!
  • Son has been in lethal form scoring five goals in the last two games, Spurs are out of the Carabao Cup and aren’t involved in Europe as well. He’s playing as a striker for an attacking Spurs side(15 goals in 6 games, 4th highest in the League) with an excellent fixture run too.

Alternate to the above draft:

  • The below draft has only Areola as the keeper and Diaby instead of Gordon

FPL GW7 Wildcard Draft 4
  • A 3-4-3 draft with Gordon and Udogie on the bench for GW7, the Luton duo can be benched/replaced after their DGW7
