All Premier League Teams Predicted GW23 Lineups

Arsenal

Arsenal faced only their second league defeat of the season away to Everton 1-0. That makes back-to-back defeats for Arteta’s side across all competitions and only the second time they have failed to score a goal this season in the Premier League. Jorginho made his first appearance for the London club. Jesus is back running, but it is highly unlikely he gets into the starting 11 right away.

Arteta via BT Sport:

Today I love them much more than a week ago, a month ago, six months ago. It is easy to be next to someone when they’re winning and playing well, but now is the moment to be next to them because they fully deserve it, and I am so proud to call them my players.

On Team news

The ones that were long-term – like Emile, Reiss and Gabriel Jesus – they are closer and they’ve started to do some activities and have been outside. But they are not ready yet to be considered.

On Smith Rowe ready for this weekend

Not for this weekend.

On Gabriel Jesus

Gabby is doing really well. He’s already been outside a little bit but it’s still early stages. He keeps pushing everybody every single day, but we need to respect some timelines and processes. He’s doing really well.

On Gabriel Jesus return date

It’s still too far off that. You have to see how he reacts now when you start to put some load to the knee and get some movement and actions that are not controlled as the ones he’s been doing and where he’s comfortable as well to go to the next stage.

Aston Villa

Goals galore as the most entertaining game of the weekend saw Aston Villa go down to Leicester City 2-4 at home. Digne was fit and started right away ahead of Alex Moreno at left back.

Aston Villa GW23 Predicted Formation:

4-4-2

Aston Villa GW23 Predicted Lineup:

Martinez

Young – Mings – Konsa – Digne

Ramsey – Kamara – Luiz – Buendia

Bailey – Watkins

Aston Villa PC/Injury Update:

There were no injury concerns reported by Emery during the pre-game Press Conference.

Bournemouth

The Cherries were totally outplayed by Brighton as they find themselves struggling in the relegation zone with no wins in their last 5 games. Solanke and Tavernier are back on grass, but it remains to be seen if they are match fit to start.

Bournemouth GW23 Predicted Formation:

4-4-1-1

Bournemouth GW23 Predicted lineup:

Ouattara – Lerma – Billing – Anthony

Traore

Semenyo

Bournemouth PC/Injury Update:

There wasn’t much from a team news perspective from Gary O’Neil who confirmed that goalkeeper Neto has been appointed the new Bournemouth captain. He said: “I feel Neto has some real good qualities that we’d be silly not to tap into.”

Brighton

Having dominated throughout the match, Brighton came out with a 1-0 win over Bournemouth at home with a late goal from Mitoma in the 87th minute. Mac Allister returns from suspension and should be back in starting 11 right away.De Zebri confirmed that Ferguson is also back from his injury.

Brighton PC/Injury Update:

De Zebri quotes via Brighton website

On Mac Allister

“[Alexis] Mac Allister will play tomorrow. He is a very important player for us.”

On Team News

“Colwill and Lallana can’t play, we have a few more doubts. Evan Ferguson could play, but I have to choose between him, Deniz [Undav] and [Kaoru] Mitoma. Evan is more a striker and knows how to attack the space, but in the quality of play Undav is also very important.

Brentford

The Bees were buzzing all over the Saints this weekend as they registered a 3-0 win at the Brentford Community Stadium and extended their unbeaten streak to 9 games in the Premier League. Their last defeat came against Aston Villa in October 2022.

Ben Mee took a nasty blow to the head while scoring the first goal but was fine shortly after and continued till the end of the game.

Brentford PC/Injury Update:

Frank on Jansson and Onyeka via Brentford website

“Pontus [Jansson] and [Frank] Onyeka are just too short to be involved in the squad.

“Frank has trained fully the last two days, and Pontus is close to full training. It’s very positive.”

Chelsea

Chelsea seems to be struggling to get off the blocks this season and it showed with another average performance at home where they were held 0-0 by Fulham. The World Cup-winning Enzo Fernandez made his debut for the Blues at Stamford Bridge this weekend but he couldn’t bring his World Cup magic to the team. Felix returns from suspension, while Sterling is a injury concern. Pulisic, Kante, Broja, Mendy are still out.

We also saw Mykhailo Mudryk make his first Chelsea start to only be subbed off at half-time after a difficult first half. Graham Potter explains why (via goal.com):

He’s had a heavy cold this week. He was feeling heavy-legged at half-time and we didn’t want to take a chance with him, he is still in a process where we are building up his minutes because of the break he’s been on in Ukraine.

Chelsea GW23 Predicted formation:

Chelsea GW23 Predicted lineup:

James – Thiago Silva – BadiashileChilwell

Gallagher – Enzo – Mount

Ziyech – Havertz – Mudryk

Chelsea PC/Injury Update:

Quotes from Potter via Chelsea website

On Felix

‘It’s great to have him back,’ ‘I think we all saw the impact that he had in his 60 minutes before the red card. You could see his quality, I see it every day.

‘He’s a player that I think can make a difference for us but at the same time it’s about helping him get into the team, get integrated into the team and to the team-mates around him and for him to understand what we’re trying to do, but the signs are really positive.’

On Sterling

‘We had a little set-back with Raheem, he had a kick in training so we’re assessing him,’ ‘I think he’s probably doubtful for tomorrow I’d say. It’s a new injury, he just got a kick in training on the side of his knee.

On W.Fofana, Kovacic, Zakaria

‘No one else is back but they’re all getting closer and closer. Wesley has been training with the team, Denis has been training with the team.

‘Apart from that, Mateo’s training with the team, but it will be too soon for him. So there’s good news, we’ve got some options.’

On Aubameyang

‘There’s nothing to report. He’s been training with us this week, training really well,’

Crystal Palace

Patrick Vieira’s Eagles almost pulled off a comeback against a 10-man Manchester United at Old Trafford. Viera confirmed that McArthur will be back for GW23. Zaha is ruled out.

This is what Palace’s manager was quick to brush aside the question about the incident that reduced United to 10 men (via BBC Sport):

I was too far away to see it. I don’t want to get involved in that. I don’t want to get fined or suspended, so I will wait for your next question.”

Crystal Palace PC/Injury Update:

Viera on Ferguson and McArthur via Palace website

“The good news is that we had Nathan [Ferguson], who trained for the last couple of weeks with the team without any steps back.

“We have Macca, who’s in a really good place as well. Macca will be part of the squad for tomorrow. He’s been working hard and every single training session that he had with the team he was feeling better and better. Physically he’s in a good place.”

Everton

A new spark seems to have ignited upon the arrival of Sean Dyche in the Everton camp as they managed to down the in-form Gunners side at home by 1-0. Dyche’s strategy seems to be working as he explained their build-up towards the weekend and for the rest of the season.

Dyche via MOTD:

We tried to plan five weeks of pre-season into a week. We gave the players a lot of information and they have accepted that. A lot of work has been done this week and the players’ honesty has been invaluable to us. Our plan? Stop it going in our net, put it in their net.

Sean Dyche on DCL via Everton Website

“We’re still monitoring him,” “It will be touch and go, at best, I think for the Liverpool game.

“We’ll just have to monitor it and hope that it settles down sooner rather than later.

“He’s had a couple of niggling injuries which you’ll know. [We’re trying to get] on top of them, getting his body to adapt and all of those things for the longer term.

“He put a real shift in [against Arsenal]. His stats were very good but unfortunately he’s just got a niggly hamstring and we’ve got to get on top of it as quick as we can.”

Fulham

Fulham managed to hold down a Chelsea side that has been struggling this season so far despite the abundance of talent 0-0 away at Stamford Bridge.

Praises galore for the American, Tim Ream, as he made a crucial and decisive block towards the end of the game to deny debuting David Datro Fofana.

Leeds United

Leeds was on the wrong side of the 1-0 scoreline once again this season, this time against Nottingham Forest. Having had more possession, shots and shots on target, they weren’t able to net the ball all thanks to Forest’s new signing, Kaylor Navas. Leeds now starts to face the relegation battle at the bottom of the table. Struijk will miss out due to concussion protocols. Cooper, Roca, Sinisterra will be assessed before the game.

Leeds United PC/Injury Update:

Caretaker manager Skubala’s Press Conference Quotes

“The long-term injuries are progressing well, they’re the same.

Pascal(Struijk) got concussion, the medical team are following the concussion protocols so he’ll miss the game on Sunday, which the right decision. Liam(Cooper) and Marc(Roca) we’re still assessing, we’ll see if we can get them involved on Sunday, that’s taking a bit of time. Luis was a slightly different injury, we think he’ll be OK but we’re still going to assess whether it’s too early for him on Sunday.

“Just some slight muscle injuries, really. For me, it’s about protecting playrs first and foremost. We don’t want to take any risks with any players, this is a long season and we need to look after them.”

Leicester City

The Foxes came back from a goal down twice to ultimately register a win for the first time since the World Cup break in the league. On loan Brazilian, Tete makes Aston Villa pay at home as Unai Emery’s side faced a surprise defeat given their current form.

Leicester City GW23 Predicted formation:

Leicester City GW23 Predicted lineup:

Ndidi – Dewsbury Hall

Iheanacho

Leicester City PC/Injury News:

“Those two have been out for a long, long time, but both did very well, got through the game, which is fantastic. Ricardo is probably a bit further down the line than Ryan.”

“He (Ricardo) has looked great, so he’ll come into the squad, which is great news for us,” the 50-year-old told the media on Thursday afternoon. “He played 70 minutes in a game on Tuesday. Him and Ryan Bertrand played in that.

Rodgers on Bertrand and Pereira

Elsewhere, Nigeria international Wilfred Ndidi has recovered from a recent muscle concern, while also missing out on the win at Aston Villa. Midfielder Boubakary Soumaré may not be far away from a return himself, following a hamstring strain.

Liverpool

Liverpool just isn’t able to find their form this season after another loss, this time 3-0 to Wolves at Molineux. Defensive errors and an own goal from Joel Matip saw them go down 2-0 in the first 12 minutes to Wolves. The Reds find themselves mid-table mid-season.

Klopp was faced with the “You’re getting sacked in the morning!” chants from the traveling Liverpool fans towards the end of the game.

Diaz, Konate remain ruled out. VVD, Jota and Firmino are back in training though. Thiago is suffering from a hip injury and didn’t train all week.

Liverpool PC/Injury News:

Quotes from Klopp via Liverpool Website

On Jota, VVD, Firmino, Arthur

“The players are back in training, [but] still in different stages,”

“Diogo(Jota) is the closest, he trains now normal already for two days, so another three days [of] training is possible for him. I think he is in contention for the squad, I would say, but we have to wait a little bit.

Jota back in training

“Bobby next one, I don’t know, we have to see how that looks now, how he deals with training intensity [and] stuff like this and then we make a decision there.

“Virgil, I don’t think he is that close already, but we will work on that as well. Arthur, probably similar to Bobby, I would say.”

On Thiago

“Yeah, Thiago has some problems,”. “I know the problems, but I have to ask the medical department what I am allowed to say about it. Hip flexor, stuff like this, that’s it pretty much. He wasn’t able to train.”

Manchester City

Manchester City finds themselves in voodoo land as they have failed to score and failed to register a win in all their 5 visits to the Tottenham Hotspur stadium. De Bruyne was benched due to “tactical” reasons. Pep usually prefers not to play KDB against a back 5 which was seen again. His GW23 opponents Villa and Arsenal both play a back four which makes us think KDB starts both the game in GW23.

Pep Guardiola in the post-match press conference (via goal.com):

We are an attractive team. Our teams are always good, we try to go forward and be generous for our fans. Sometimes it doesn’t work, but I cannot complain much. When you win four Premier Leagues in five years we cannot complain much about what we have done and the way we have done it. Coming to London is like going to, I don’t know, northern Europe. It is 4 hours 20 minutes, 4 hours and a half to get to a hotel. It’s so exhausting to come to London, I’m sorry.

Manchester City GW23 Predicted lineup:

Mahrez – KDB – Gundogan – Grealish

Manchester City PC/Injury Update:

Pep’s full press conference was almost entirely devoted to the Financial Fair play saga and there was no injury updates/team news. Stones is ruled out though.

Manchester United

Manchester United came out with a narrow win over Crystal Palace edging them 2-1 at home after a brawl towards the end of the game saw Casemiro pick up a red card.

The United midfield takes another blow as Casemiro is expected to miss the next 3 games for the Red Devils on suspension. Aaron Wan-Bissaka missed the midweek game due to “illness” and it remains to be seen if he recovers in time. Ten Haag was not confident of the injured trio of Martial, Anthony and McTominay to be available for the Leed trip as seen from the quotes below.

Nottingham Forest

Deadline day signing of the three-times Champions League winner, Kaylor Navas proved to be fruitful for Forest as the Costa Rican made some crucial saves to keep a clean sheet which ultimately meant that Notts were able to register a 1-0 win over Leeds United.

Shelvey who’s recovering from a calf injury is nearing a return, Niakthe is back on the grass with Kouyate, Richards, and Biancone all long-term absentees continuing their recovery.

Southampton

Southampton continues their struggling run after another defeat, this time to an in-form Brentford side as Nathan Jones’ side finds themselves trickling at the bottom of the table.

This is what the under-fire gaffer had to say after the match (via goal.com):

I’ve compromised in terms of certain principles. Statistically, there weren’t many better than me around Europe in terms of aggression, clean sheets, defending the box, balls in the box, xG, all those things.

Southampton Injury/PC Updates

Manager Nathan Jones is edging closer to welcoming back Kyle Walker-Peters, Stuart Armstrong, and Juan Larios to his matchday squad.

“It’s a bit early for Juan. The other two [Armstrong and Walker-Peters] are a lot further ahead so, how early it is Saturday to play them, because they’re important players, again, not because we don’t like them or think they can’t improve the team, it’s about putting them into games when they’re ready so that’s what we’ll do.”

Jones is also pleased with the integration of deadline day signings Paul Onuachu and Kamaldeen Sulemana, with the duo completing their first full week of training having made their debuts last weekend just two days after arriving in the country. This could mean one or both of them make their full PL debuts this week as well!

Spurs

53-year-old club record broken as Kane scores the only goal for Spurs in 1-0 win against a visiting Manchester City side this weekend. Kane is now the club’s top goal scorer with 267 goals and joins the 200 Premier League goals club.

Romero picked up a red card toward the closing moments of the game which will see him miss Spurs’ next league game against Leicester City. Lloris is ruled out for 6-8 weeks.

“We are much the way we were at the weekend,” Moyes said. “Thilo [Kehrer] is the main one. He came off with an injury [against Newcastle United]. After that, I don’t think we will get any more boys back compared to last week.

Wolves

Wolves were in packs hunting down an out-of-form Liverpool at home coming out with a 3-0 win over the Reds. Hwang is ruled out for 4-5 weeks, Podence should take up his place. Neto is back in training and is likely to make the squad. Budget defender Bueno was benched in GW22 much to the agony of FPL managers. It remains to be monitored in the coming weeks if RAN or Bueno is the first choice or if there will be equal rotation.

Wolves GW23 Predicted lineup:

Sa

Semedo – Dawson – Kilman – Ait Nouri

Podence – Neves – Lemina – Nunes

Wolves PC/Injury Update:

Quotes from Lopetegui via Wolves website

On Hwang injury

“These kinds of injuries depend on each player as they are all different in their recovery, but more or less I think [Hwang] will be four or five weeks.

On Neto

“[Neto’s] going step by step, and he’s better, but he’s been out for four months so we have to be careful with him, but now he’s ready to help us. Today, we are going to review and after we are going to make the squad list because we have had some problems, but he is ready to help us.

On Lemina

“He’s better. I don’t know if he’s going to be 100 per cent but he’s better so we’ll have to take the decision tomorrow morning with him. We don’t know if he will play or not, because we have had a little problem with a couple of players.

“He came here to improve us and to balance in this position, of course. He’s a good player, he’s an experienced player, he knows the Premier League, he knows English football, and the English competitions, so it’s important for him and important for us. But now it’s not about Mario or Ruben or the team, it’s about him helping us to improve and to be able to win each match.”
