Let’s dive right into it. We will start with the first one.

FPL GW22 Tips – Preview and Dilemmas Answered

1) How many Double GW22 players to get on your team?

How many Double GW22 players to get on your team?

Man Utd and Leeds have a double gameweek in GW22. Starting with defenders, you should be good to go if you have just one Man United defender. Luke Shaw is an excellent pick if you are looking at the Man Utd defence. He looks nailed and can even play as a CB if required. Man Utd has Palace and Leeds, and Shaw has enough potential to get good points haul this week.

Coming to midfielders, Marcus Rashford is the midfield option to have in your team. He is in great form and has already been transferred in by more than 450,000+ managers this week. If you already have Rashford, you can double down on the Man Utd midfield by going with Bruno Fernandes

This way, you get an additional double gameweek player with decent potential this week. Bruno has only blanked once in the last seven gameweeks. He is also a great alternative captaincy shout this week, especially if you want to captain a double gameweek player. Overall, having these players this week guarantees you safety against many active FPL managers.

Then we get to the punting category, if you are doing some serious catchup, you can consider one player from Leeds, but they are primarily one-week punts. Patrick Bamford is a risky third-striker option. He has been out injured for most of the season but made a comeback in the last two weeks.

If you don’t want to lock in funds in a Leeds player and plan to play a 3-5-2, Wilfried Gnonto (£5m) can be a decent budget enabler. There can be some rotation, but with Gnonto being slightly more versatile, his minutes might be a bit more secure than the rest of the Leeds attackers.

Overall, the safer play is to cover off Man United players with a triple-up. Leeds players are not mandatory, and you can consider them if you are trying to gain rank/ground on your mini-league rivals.

2) Who are the best Cancelo replacements ahead of FPL DGW22?

best Cancelo replacements ahead of FPL DGW22?

Joao Cancelo made a shock exit from Man City and has moved to Bayern Munich to play in the Bundesliga. Around 30% of managers still owned him when he moved and are now scrambling for a replacement.

If you are looking for a solid premium replacement, then Luke Shaw is great. This season, he has been brilliant for Man Utd, showing his versatility by playing at CB occasionally. The positional change from LB to CB may take away his attacking output, but it does well for his bonus points potential if Man Utd keep a clean sheet. With Man Utd having a Double Gameweek in GW22, Shaw is a strong option.

Talking about some more good defenders, you can go for an Arsenal option. Ben White has been a great enabler pick but got hooked off at halftime against Man Utd. It may be a tactical switch, but with Tomiyasu returning, there can be some possible rotation. If you want to be completely safe, get Gabriel (£5.2m) instead.

It feels strange to me not talking about Man City defenders straight away. That is how problematic it has been to guess Man City’s backline. On top of that, they have only kept two clean sheets in the last seven games.

Man City defenders are not a must, but Akanji/Ake look like the most nailed picks if you want to go for one. Both have been decent for City but don’t provide much goal threat. Other attacking defenders, like Lewis, Walker etc., are rotated a lot, and it’s better to avoid them altogether

If you plan to get in another Newcastle defender in addition to Trippier, be aware there is a blank gameweek in GW25 on the horizon. Do factor in how to navigate that week when planning these defender moves.

If you are looking at cheap alternatives, you can look at Huge Bueno (£3.9m) from Wolves, who has a confirmed fixture in GW25 and can sit on your bench for most weeks. Aston Villa’s Tyrone Mings (£4.3m) is another decent pick if you have additional money. He plays in GW25 and can also help you navigate the GW28 blank.

3) Is it okay to play the Triple Captain chip in DGW22?

Is it okay to play the Triple Captain chip in DGW22?

This week, using the Triple Captain chip is a widespread discussion in the FPL community. The most obvious choice is Marcus Rashford. The Man United attacker has been in great form, getting 12 attacking returns in the league this season. Man Utd’s fixtures in GW22 read CRY(H) and LEE(H). They look good from an attacking sense, and Man United and Rashford are both expected to do well.

Suppose you are looking at other options for triple captaincy. In that case, Bruno Fernandes can be a great alternative to Rashford. He has been the creative spark in the Man Utd team, getting four assists in the last seven games. When compared to Rashford, he has significantly less goal threat, and that can be a reason why a lot of managers won’t go there.

Suppose you are trying to gain ground on your mini-league rivals and want to have fun. In that case, you can play your Triple Captain this week instead of going to Haaland in Double GW23. That is still the safer option of the two. Haaland is still the best FPL player this season. Despite having a tricky game against Arsenal away, the home game against Aston Villa is quite appealing.

If you want to be aggressive, you can choose Marcus Rashford or Bruno Fernandes. Both players have been in great form and are likely to start both games. Of the two, I prefer Rashford because of his more direct goal threat and overall goal-scoring form.

4) Are Brighton players still worth getting in DGW22?

Are Brighton players still worth getting in DGW22?

There is a lot of buzz around Brighton players, especially their attackers, which is quite understandable. Brighton does have a confirmed blank gameweek in GW25. There is also a possibility of a blank in GW28 based on their FA Cup involvement.

With these conditions, the question remains: Is it worth investing in the Brighton players?

It depends on your team. If you have 4-5 players from Man Utd and Newcastle who blank in GW25 and Ivan Toney from Brentford (who also blanks in GW25), it’s better to avoid the Brighton options. Getting in a Brighton player will mean an additional player who blanks in 25 and a possible blank in GW28. It will be challenging to navigate GW25 without taking a fair amount of hits which is not ideal.

This scenario changes if you are Free Hitting in GW25. If you decide to use your Free Hit in GW25, you can get in your Brighton option for three excellent fixtures (BOU, CRY and FUL next) and transfer them out if they have a confirmed blank in GW28.

Also, if your focus is short-term and you want to maximise the gains with Brighton having a great run of games, definitely go for one of the picks. Mitoma looks like the standout pick in the attack. He has been consistent and got four attacking returns since the FPL restart.

Suppose you already own a Brighton player. Hold them for these next fixtures and see your overall team by GW25. At that time, you can take a call on whether you want to remove them or not.

5) Should you play your Wildcard this week?

Should you play your Wildcard this week?

With three top teams having a double gameweek in GW22 and GW23 combined, many managers are considering using the Wildcard chip this week to take advantage of the extra fixtures in the coming weeks. It’s still very team dependent.

If most of your team already includes players from Man City, Man United, Arsenal, Newcastle etc., a Wildcard is not needed. Suppose your team has players like Cancelo, Almiron or even Mitrovic. You can take them out through regular transfers, and you don’t need to use the Wildcard chip.

On the other hand, if you don’t have enough players from teams like Man City, Man Utd and even Arsenal, a Wildcard will sort your team as you can attack this double gameweek and the fixtures beyond.

Another thing to note is that this week’s Wildcard team might be similar to the template team (team comprising popular picks). If you are far off from that scenario, you can go on the offensive and set up a strong squad for Doubles in GW22 and GW23. You will also be ahead of FPL managers, taking multiple hits to field their desired team in both these weeks.

If you are far from your ideal team, using the Wildcard should give you stability, but make sure to list the pros and cons before hitting that Wildcard button. Using it in Double GW22 instead of later might leave you exposed for blank or even bigger double gameweeks. It’s essential to look at your team, see what you are gaining and letting go and accordingly take the call.

That will be all from my side for this week! All the best for Gameweek 22, and I will see you next week.
