After a nearly 2-week break where several Premier League clubs were in Cup action at least once and an absolutely frantic end to the Winter transfer window, FPL finally returns into a period of back to back DGWs and with some more clarity on upcoming blanks. These are the periods of the season in FPL where active managers can gain a leg up on their rivals with planning and foresight an important part of the FPL landscape.
The transfer window snapped shut with some huge moves in the final days, none more so than an FPL favourite, Joao Cancelo, shockingly being allowed to leave Manchester City. The arrival of 100m man Enzo Fernandez (5m on FPL), while not directly of FPL relevance at the moment, might spark the Chelsea attack into coherence and spring interesting options such as Mudryk (7m), Havertz, Mount or even Joao Felix. The added wrinkle of Jorginho swapping West for North London means his minutes will directly impact Saka’s penalties in all likelihood while penalty duty could push any of the aforementioned Chelsea options into a category of serious consideration.
For this weeks suggestions, we’re going to keep it fairly straightforward. Manchester United look in great touch ahead of a favourable DGW which is followed by a DGW for Champions Manchester City and table toppers Arsenal. Thus, despite a strong urge to push a personal favorite in Kaoru Mitoma again, we’re sticking to these teams for our ‘BUY’ suggestions. Blog written by @deevyaparekh do follow him on Twitter.
FPL Gameweek 22 Transfer Tips: Two Players to BUY
Bruno Fernandes (9.9m, MID, Manchester United)
A whole host of FPL managers will likely find themselves seeking another United option in FPL ahead of an enticing DGW and with a Midfield cash cow in the form of Mo Salah (or maybe even De Bruyne but that’s a trickier sale). Step up, Bruno Fernandes.
The Portuguese maestro has been showing the sort of consistency he showed in his first 18 months as a Manchester United player on Fantasy Premier League. He’s had 6 returns in his last 7 league games including a 19 point return in DGW20 recently. He’s racked up 0.19 xG and 0.56 xA per start over his last 4 including both Arsenal and Manchester City while he’s on penalty duties again thus making him a strong, high ceiling option for this DGW. A strong BUY candidate.
Adding to it, his opponents for Gameweek 22 are Palace and Leeds who are both struggling defensively.
- Since FPL restart from World Cup break, Leeds United have conceded the most big chances(17) in the league. Palace are 4th worst with 14 big chances conceded.
- Leeds and Crystal Palace ranked 19th and 18th for Expected Goals conceded since GW17.

Eddie Nketiah (6.7, FWD, Arsenal)
Nketiah is another player I’m high on as a BUY this week. There have been good reasons to hold off the young forward including an impending return to fitness of Gabriel Jesus which could be as soon as GW26 (but a slow return to match fitness is more likely) and a strong case to be made for a DEF, MID, MID triple up of Arsenal assets.
While those points continue to remain true, Nketiah has amassed the second highest xG per start since the resumption of league football post the World Cup- Only behind Erling Haaland. At a budget-friendly price and with underlying numbers so strong, Nketiah has made a compelling case to be transferred in ahead of a DGW in GW23 and with possibly limited GWs till Gabriel Jesus returns to fitness and starts to reclaim his spot, this is the best time to bring in Nketiah with a view to maximizing his upside rather than getting closer to Jesus’ potential return.

FPL Gameweek 22 Transfer Tips: Two Players to HOLD
Gabriel Martinelli (6.7, MID, Arsenal)
No returns in his last 3, the arrival of Leandro Trossard which could see his minutes reduced and good returns from all 3 alternative options in attack for Arsenal over this period have resulted in FPL managers hovering the ‘transfer out’ button for the Brazilian.
However, the underlying numbers tell a different story. Martinelli actually ranks second to Nketiah in expected goal involvement for all Arsenal players since the resumption and faces up against a struggling Everton team before a DGW in GW23. It’s tempting to move him on due to the relative output to Odegaard and Saka but with transfers being valuable to maximize this tricky terrain of Double and Blank GWs, holding onto Martinelli seems like a sensible option. Other reasons to HOLD Martinelli ahead of GW22-
- Favorable fixture vs Everton in GW22 who have not kept a clean sheet in their last 7 games
- Great matchup in GW22- Everton have conceded most chances(80) & most crosses(209) in the right flank(Martinelli side) among all 20 PL teams this season
- Confirmed Double Gameweek in GW23
- No blanks in GW25 & GW28

Harry Kane (11.7, FWD, Tottenham Hotspur)
When I checked the FPL ‘transfers out (round)’ page, I was surprised to see Harry Kane with nearly 100k transfers out at the time of writing. Even though Kane has a difficult fixture against Manchester City upcoming and no DGWs on the horizon (+ a potential blank in GW28), his fixture run after this week looks very encouraging from an attackers perspective. With an xG of 0.55 and xA of 0.25 per start in his last 4, his underlying metrics continue to remain strong in addition to a very consistent output and while he seems as an option to fund expensive DGW punts, I’d much rather lose Salah than Kane as far as premiums go or even find value in a move from De Bruyne to Mahrez. FPL is a game of probability and outcomes could swing in any direction but that’s where the data and eye-test have me leaning.

FPL Gameweek 22 Transfer Tips: Two Players to SELL
Miguel Almiron (5.8, MID, Newcastle United)
It was an incredibly fruitful journey for believers who hopped onto the Almiron train across the terrific goalscoring spell the midfielder went on. Not just strong value at his price but the magnitude of Almirons returns mean owners actually had substantial gains and for that, this spell will go down as an FPL classic.
However, unfortunately, his underlying metrics and subsequently his returns have sharply dried up off late. Newcastle also embark on a difficult spell of fixtures and are likely to face blanks in both GW25 and GW28. It’s the right time to take your gains and move on from Almiron with a wealth of mid-price FPL Midfield options doing a stellar job like Odegaard, Mitoma etc. He’s still in a whopping 37.4% of teams at the time of writing.
Almiron has just 11 points from last 4 games with no attacking returns. His underlying numbers have also dropped significantly post the World Cup break as seen here-
Almiron per 90 mins stats- GW1 to GW16 vs GW17 to GW21
- Big Chances- 0.50 vs 0.22
- Expected Goals- 0.34 vs 0.16
- Goals- 0.57 vs 0.22
- FPL Points- 6.62 vs 4.21

Aleksandar Mitrovic (7.0, FWD, Fulham)
A difficult week for ‘Sell’ recommendations as most managers will unfortunately have to sell players who’ve left the league like Cancelo or Doherty or will look to make a sale to bring in a player for the DGWs.
I was first going to suggest Mo Salah as even though his upcoming fixture run is good and underlying numbers remain strong, Salah and Liverpool have failed to show the kind of form that made him FPL Royalty for years on end.
However, having suggested getting in Eddie Nketiah, I think selling Mitrovic to make that transfer also appears like it could work out. The Serbian has had fitness issues on and off recently and even though owners have been incredibly unlucky with the two penalty miss debacles, Fulham’s fixture run appears to be fairly difficult all the way up to GW30 which opens up the possibility of going upside chasing with other FWD options.
Not a player I’d be pushing to sell if there’s other fires but if unclear about a path to DGW players, the upside of Nketiah coupled with Mitrovic’s difficult schedule and 28.1% FPL ownership make him a slot I’d take a gamble on.
