FPL GW9 Captaincy poll ~ Wisdom Of the Crowd

FPL GW9 Captaincy poll

Haaland tops the poll with 43% of the votes and it is only fair as he’s not blanked once in the 8 gameweeks till now. Salah is second on the poll with 22% votes and he is up against Brighton who have a new manager and have not played for a while. Maddison is interestingly the third most popular captaincy option this week on our poll thanks to his haul against Spurs in GW8 and the exciting GW9 fixture against Nottingham Forest. Kane and KDB are closely fourth and fifth in the captaincy poll this week, both playing in derbies this week. Haaland, Salah, Maddison, Kane and KDB are the players going into the FPL Gameweek 9 captaincy metrics this week.

The three out and out options in Salah, Haaland, and Kane are very close in terms of shots inside the box with Haaland(19) slightly edging Kane(17) with Salah(14) not far off behind. Interestingly Salah has created more chances than the likes of KDB with a whopping 24 chances created in the last six games, KDB is second with 21 chances created. Kane(14) slightly edges out Maddison(13) for chances created. Haaland in expected fashion dominates the big chances with a whopping 10 big chances, Kane is second for big chances(7) whereas Salah only has had 4 big chances.

The big chances quite resonate with the xG too with Haaland accumulating an xG of 4.87 whereas Kane is just 0.3 off with an xG of 4.57. Salah too has a decent xG of 2.55 in the last six games but not close enough to Haaland & Kane. Maddison and KDB have got low xG as expected as they generally score from low xG chances.

Even though Man City play Man United the odds seem to fully back them with a 90% chance of one goal and 50% chance of 2+ goals. Liverpool are close with an 89% chance of scoring one goal and 45% chance of scoring 2+ goals. Maddison has good odds(83% of one goal, 31% chance of 2+ goals) not better than Man City and Liverpool but still good odds which shows why he’s an alternative captaincy choice this week amongst many managers. Kane is last on the list in terms of odds due to the difficulty of the North London Derby.

Once again Haaland cleansweeps the projections with a 73% chance of anytime returns and a points projection of 7.7. KDB is not close behind and has a 66% chance of anytime return with a healthy projection of 6.9. He’s known to return heavily against the big teams and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he hauls bigs against Man United. Salah has a points projection of 6.2 which is still a not bad number and could come away as a strong alternative captaincy candidate to Haaland. Maddison(5.4) is fourth amongst points projection and Kane(4.7) is fifth and last on the list for points projection.
