Top FPL Gameweek 8 Captain Picks Based on Analysis & Metrics

We are here for the next captaincy metrics blog after not having one last week since the games were canceled. Haaland returning in GW6 made it 6/6 for the metrics, this week’s captaincy is interesting with Haaland, Kane, Jesus, Saka, and Mitrovic all good options. Let’s look at who topped the FPL gameweek 8 metrics.

The metrics had a 30/38 “returns record” last season and so far has a 6/6 “returns record” with Haaland topping the metrics in GW6 and returning with 18 points. Do follow the man behind the metrics @AK_FPL1(Do follow him on Twitter)

FPL GW8 Captaincy poll ~ Wisdom Of the Crowd

Haaland without a doubt tops the votes getting 66% of the votes with Kane coming second with 20% of the votes, he’s a popular alternative to Haaland due to the fact that Leicester are poor and Kane enjoys a brilliant record against Leicester. Another Spurs attacker Son is third in the voting after emerging as a Salah replacement/punt for GW8. Mitrovic makes his captaincy metrics debut finishing fourth in the poll whereas Jesus completes the top five of the gameweek 8 captaincy poll.

Haaland dominates the numbers which is hardly any surprise but Mitrovic is the biggest surprise here having had 22 shots inside the box, just 2 less than Haaland(24). Mitrovic is also second for big chances with 8 big chances which gives him an xG of 4.27 which is even more than Kane who has an xG of 4.25 and 6 big chances respectively. Jesus is fourth for xG even though he had 20 shots inside the box, only 5 big chances means his xG is only 3.39. Son has been out of form and is last with only an xG of 1.68.

Arsenal are top for shots inside box(73) over Man City(69) but it’s Man City with a whopping 28 big chances compared to 18 of Arsenal. Fulham(11) are impressively close to Spurs(12) in terms of big chances which tells us why Mitrovic is a popular choice alongside the big boys for captaincy this week.
