As the long international break comes to an end, managers have almost locked in their teams for the upcoming Gameweek. The international break, as usual saw many use their wildcards, while many using more than 2 transfers to restructure their teams. With that motive, let’s see towards which players the wind went ahead of GW9. This article covers FPL GW9 Tips- Transfer Trends and Best Transfer Combinations based on stats.
FPL GW9 Tips | Transfer Deadline
Saturday 1st October at 11:00 AM BST
Top Transfer Ins and Outs ahead of FPL GW 9
The most transferred-in player ahead of GW9, as of now is Arsenal’s defender Saliba, with almost 216k managers bringing him in. Even though Saliba is the highest-scoring defender in the game, it is to be noted that Arsenal have Tottenham, Liverpool, and Blank in the next 3/4 games. So we would not suggest to bring him in. After him, Trippier and Ivan Toney are in the list of the Most Transferred in players.
Some unusual names occurred on the list of the most transferred-out players. Jesus, who has been great since the beginning of the season, is at the top with 196k managers removing him, and the Egyptian King, Mo Salah followed by him. Trent Alexander was also removed by almost 149k managers ahead of FPL GW9.

FPL GW9 Tips – Best Transfer Combinations
Transfer Combination 1:
Jesus (8.0m) to Mitrovic (6.9m)
The most popular transfer combination ahead of GW9 is the switch from Gabriel Jesus to Mitrovic. The most highly owned player in the game ever, and rightly so, is being removed by many in lieu of Arsenal’s fixtures ahead. He has performed very well since the start of the season and could still go on to have a consistent output.
On the other hand, Fulham’s fixtures take a turn for the good for the next few weeks, till the World Cup starts. It could turn out as an optimal trasnsfer to make ahead of the given situation.
Underlying Numbers
Average Statistic per 90 mins | Jesus | Aleksandar Mitrović |
---|---|---|
Expected Goals | 0.62 | 0.59 |
Shots | 3.66 | 4.43 |
Shots on Target | 1.47 | 2.29 |
Shots in Box | 3.66 | 3.57 |
Expected Assists | 0.25 | 0.10 |
Big Chance Created | 0.44 | 0.14 |
Mitrovic’s underlying numbers are very close to that of Jesus’ in other than assisting ability. But he has posted better numbers in terms of shots taken, and shots on target. His stats clearly indicate his pure role as an out and out striker who is thirsty to score in every game. Even over the international break, he scored a total of 4 goals for his National Team.
Player Heatmap Comparison
From the heatmaps, it can be seen that Jesus is involved as much in the playmaking of the team as his role as a striker, thereby indicating his more assist potential than Mitrovic. However, at a million cheaper, Mitrovic provides enough goal threat to go with him over the next couple of gameweeks.
Fixture Analysis | Fulham
Fulham have great fixtures up ahead which includes: Newcastle, West Ham, Bournemouth and Leeds over the period of next five weeks. The table below looks at the defensive numbers of Fulham’s next three fixtures, and where they are ranked, in the league in respective stats.
Defensive Stats (Rank) | Shots Conceded | SiB Conceded | Shots from Set Piece conceded | Big Chances Conceded | xG Conceded |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Newcastle | 15th | 4th | 16th | 12th | 14th |
West Ham | 6th | 6th | 7th | 9th | 7th |
Bournemouth | 19th | 18th | 11th | 14th | 17th |
Looking at their next three fixtures’ defensive rankings, other than West Ham, the two fixtures look very favourable for him to grab a few goals in. His heading ability is also unquestionable, and they rank in the second half in shots conceded from Set Pieces.
Therefore entrusting Mitrovic as your third striker could prove to be beneficial considering all things mentioned above.

Transfer Combination 2:
Kulusevski (8.1m) to Maddison (7.9m)
The next best combination ahead of FPL GW9 is, Kulusevski to Leicester’s Maddison. The switch to Maddison makes sense this week, given Kulu goes on to plays in the North London Derby on Saturday whilst Leicester go on to face Nottingham Forest. Although the foxes haven’t been in the best of their form, but Maddison has been looking dangerous and with the fixtures ahead, he could be worth taking the risk on.
Underlying Numbers
Average Statistic per 90 mins | Dejan Kulusevski | James Maddison |
---|---|---|
Expected Goals | 0.12 | 0.22 |
Shots | 1.79 | 3.33 |
Shots on Target | 0.36 | 1.17 |
Shots in Box | 1.07 | 1.50 |
Goal Assists | 0.54 | 0.17 |
Expected Assists | 0.27 | 0.06 |
Big Chance Created | 0.36 | 0.00 |
Other than the assist potential, Maddison betters Kulusevski by a large margin. He has 3.33 shots per 90, as compared to 1.79 of Kulusevski. Also given the improvement in Son’s form, his output is likely to go down. In the 8m bracket, Maddison has decent enough underlying numbers to back trasnferring him in ahead of next gameweek.
Player Heatmap Comparison
Kulu’s role is more of a winger and spends most of his time on the right flank. On the other hand, Maddison plays a much more central role and is involved much more in the creativity aspect of Leicester’s playstyle.
Fixtures | Leicester
Leicester have amazing fixtures all the way up until the PL halts for the World Cup. They have Bournemouth, Palace and Leeds after facing Nottingham Forest in GW9. All of these fixtures are good enough for Leicester to turn things around, and Maddison to contribute a larger share in it. Therefore, it’s worth taking the risk on Maddison this week.

Transfer Combination 3:
Pascal Gross (6.0m) to Zaha(7.2m)
The third best transfer combination ahead of GW9 is Brighton’s Pascal Gross to Wilfred Zaha. Brighton go on to face Manchester City next week which is one of the, if not the most difficult fixture to go against. Although Zaha is also going up against Chelsea, Palace’s long term fixtures are very lucrative
Underlying Numbers
Average Statistic per 90 mins | Pascal Groß | Wilfried Zaha |
---|---|---|
Expected Goals | 0.31 | 0.61 |
Shots | 1.50 | 3.05 |
Shots on Target | 0.83 | 1.63 |
Shots in Box | 0.83 | 2.44 |
Goal Assists | 0.33 | 0.00 |
Expected Assists | 0.37 | 0.16 |
Big Chance Created | 0.83 | 0.20 |
As we saw in the other combinations, Wilfred Zaha has much better-attacking stats and goal threat as compared to Gross. However, Gross is better in terms of his assist potential. He has taken a lot of shots, and has a shots on target per 90 minutes of 1.63.
Player Heatmap Comparison
Both the players has a heatmap biased towards their respective flanks. Zaha looks more on the goal scoring side as he tries to cut in from the left flank. However, Gross sways away from the box, and is always looking to cross in the ball for his team mates.
Fixtures | Palace
Crystal Palace have great fixtures all the way up to GW18. After Chelsea, they go in to face Leeds, Leicester, Wolves and Everton. He has been fairly consistent this season, and could easily increase his output over these fixtures.

Conclusion – FPL GW9 Tips
- Wildcard is a good option to consider ahead of GW9, given the fixture swings
- You could captain a differential this week, as Haaland goes on to face Manchester United in the derby.
- Don’t keep removing all Arsenal assets as your main priority.
- Keep Manchester United assets on your watchlist, they could come good over the next few weeks.
- If you don’t have your wildcard, taking a few hits to fix your team isn’t the worst option.
