FPL GW7 Preview & Key Dilemmas Answered

1) Should you play the Wildcard in Gameweek 7?

FPL GW7 Preview ~ Should you play the Wildcard in Gameweek 7?

A poor gameweek 6 for most managers with the premium defenses has prompted many managers to consider using their Wildcard chip in Gameweek 7. I still feel it’s too early to play the Wildcard this week. Most of the big teams have decent games, if not the best. Also, the teams/players you would want to go on a Wildcard don’t have the best fixtures

Newcastle plays West Ham which could be a tricky game for them. Chelsea has sacked Thomas Tuchel, and it just might be a bit early to jump on to Chelsea players except James, despite Chelsea having good long-term fixtures.

Palace has good long-term fixtures, but they play Man Utd this week and then blank in Gameweek 8. Even Leicester don’t seem to have the confidence to win games at the moment, and waiting on their players might be ideal.

Arsenal and Liverpool have favorable fixtures this week. Still, if you are looking to offload players like Trent, Salah, Diaz, or even Jesus, Gameweek 8/9 might be a better time.

You can get Brighton players against Bournemouth, but then Brighton blanks in Gameweek 8. If you have one/two FTs, you can play a mini Wildcard of sorts by taking a hit and maybe targeting players for the long term instead.

I feel even a change in team structure can be also achieved with a few transfers in most cases and doesn’t require major surgery. Still, if you are far from the ideal team in your mind, using the Wildcard should give you some stability, but make sure to list the pros and cons before hitting that Wildcard button.

The decision to use the Wildcard is very team specific, and the reasons to do so could be different for different FPL managers. It is worth looking into particular players, too. Unless most of your players have a poor fixture this week, a Wildcard would be better suited in GW8/9.

Check this Wildcard draft and see how far off you are from the ideal team for Gameweek 7 and beyond.

2) What to do with Liverpool players in FPL Ahead of GW7?

FPL GW7 Preview ~ What to do with Liverpool players?

Liverpool has struggled this season with only two wins in the first 6 games. They were also comprehensively beaten by Napoli in the Champions League this week. That brings us to the question: Is it worth holding them?

Liverpool has looked very poor defensively, and I don’t expect them to keep a lot of clean sheets in the near future. If you still own both Trent and Robertson, I genuinely feel you should consider selling Robertson, to begin with.

Robertson is definitely better at defending than Trent. Still, the attacking threat he is known for seems to be missing at the moment. To top it up, he was rested in the last PL game and played 90 minutes midweek in the Champions League. There are chances of another rest against Wolves, and if you don’t have James and Cancelo, he is an easy sell.

Trent, too, has been below his usual standards going forward. His chance creation numbers haven’t looked great. He is not where he should be when we talk about defending. Having said that, he is not a priority sell this week. Again, unless you don’t have James and Cancelo or you want to punt on an Arsenal/Brighton defender before Wildcarding in Gameweek 8, he is a hold.

Coming to the Liverpool attack, Salah continues to play wide for most games, and it’s not looking very promising for Salah owners. You will not captain him for most weeks, especially with Haaland in such great form. I think selling Salah long-term definitely looks like an option

Doing it this week depends on who you are getting as a replacement and if it is long-term. Sterling has excellent long-term fixtures, but he is a bit risky considering what has been happening at Chelsea. KDB is good, but he might see reduced minutes in the league with CL games in play. Son is another option in the premium category. Though he looks a little better than before, I won’t go there.

You can, of course, spread the cash and make significant upgrades elsewhere. Be careful; overdoing it might make getting Salah back trickier unless you have a Wildcard left to play. I am considering selling Salah this week and punting on a KDB/Sterling instead

Luiz Diaz is a hold, for sure. He has been Liverpool’s best attacker and is worth keeping unless he loses his spot to Jota in the playing XI. He has scored three goals in the PL and is providing far more value than Salah.

The same can be said for Darwin Nunez too. He is worth holding on to, mainly as he played as a substitute against Napoli. I expect Nunez to start against Wolves, and he might just provide a different dynamic to that struggling Liverpool attack.

3) Should we hold/sell Chelsea players ahead of FPL GW7?

FPL GW7 Preview ~ Should we hold/sell Chelsea players this week?

Chelsea, like Liverpool, has also struggled to get their season going. A 1-0 loss to Dinamo Zagreb was enough to sack Thomas Tuchel, which was a huge surprise. Graham Potter is expected to take charge of Chelsea. It’s too early to draw conclusions, but I expect a new manager to bounce.

Potter’s teams are known for their defensive stability, and a similar outcome can also be expected at Chelsea. Regardless, James is still a perfect hold for Gameweek 7. He plays Fulham, who are known to play front-foot football. This might not be good for a clean sheet, but I still expect James to get a lot of joy in the attack.

Cucurella’s situation is a bit tricky! I won’t be surprised if he gets limited minutes soon, with Chilwell competing for the LWB spot again. After the rest midweek, Cucurella is expected to start against Fulham. He is not a necessary sell this week. Still, if you don’t have any priority moves, you can go for a long-term/short-term option depending on your Wildcard strategy.

Fofana is another pick that is a bit cold at the moment as not many managers trust Chelsea to keep clean sheets. That might change soon, and Fofana at £4.4m could be a great option with excellent long-term fixtures from a defensive point of view. He is not a buy this week unless you are on a Wildcard and want to double up early on the Chelsea defense.

Not a lot of viable options in attack right now. Sterling is an interesting one. I don’t mind going aggressive and taking a bit of risk with him if you are looking to replace Salah in midfield. He has been Chelsea’s standout attacker, and an early substitution midweek indicates a Sterling start against Fulham. If you have him, you definitely hold him for now and assess further in the upcoming gameweeks.

4) What are some short-term punts if you are using Wildcard in GW8/9?

FPL GW7 Preview ~ bailey differential punt

If you are considering using the Wildcard chip in Gameweek 8, you can go for Brighton options in attack. Brighton is ranked 5th in xG across the league. They face Bournemouth this week, who have conceded the most number of goals this season. It looks good for players like Pascal Groß and Trossard who are standout options in midfield. If you don’t have enough money, then Mac Allister is the player to go for.

You can also look to play/bring in Bailey from Aston Villa. Villa faces Leicester, another side that has struggled in defense and is very leaky at the back. Bailey scored and looked good against Man City last gameweek; chances are that he is rewarded with another start in GW7.

Many managers are considering moving from Arsenal on a Wildcard, and a last roll of the dice with Saka looks good. Saka has been more involved in recent games. With most managers doubling up with Martinelli and Jesus, Saka could be a great differential

If you are looking to move from Salah, then KDB is the safest pick to go for. He is playing against Conte’s Tottenham side and has the ability to break down the defense. Sterling is another option if you want to go a bit riskier. If Chelsea can get their act together, he can be a long-term option too.

If you plan to play your Wildcard in Gameweek 9, you can go in multiple directions.

You can look at players from Man United as one/two-week punts. The derby against Leeds seems good and could be a high-scoring game for Man United. Rashford is the standout option right now, considering he is listed as a midfielder and playing out of position. Bruno Fernandes has been a lot better this season and is a cheeky punt for the next two weeks

FPL GW7 Preview ~ Mitrovic differential punt

Mitrovic is another player you can consider if you are looking at a Gameweek 8 punt. He is the in-form striker apart from Haaland right now and can provide a lot of value as your second/third striker option. A match against Nottingham Forest looks perfect, and Mitrovic seems good for a huge haul here.

Another great shout is Isak from Newcastle. He is facing Bournemouth in Gameweek 8 and is worth bringing in, even if it’s for a single week. Do keep a close eye on Wilson and his return from injury, as he might share minutes with Isak soon.

That will be all from this week. Do let me know what you think about these dilemmas. Also, tell me in the comments or drop me a DM on Instagram/Twitter if I have missed out on anything specific.
