All Premier League Teams Predicted GW5 Lineups
Arsenal
For the first time this season, Arsenal altered their starting lineup, although it was enforced rather than by choice. Both Oleksander Zinchenko and Thomas Partey missed out due to injury so Kieran Tierney and Mohamed Elneny came in respectively. Mikel Arteta admitted afterwards that it was unlikely that either would be fit for the mid-week clash with Villa. Emile Smith Rowe could also come in after not seeing a start all season so far.
Last week’s success rate: 9/11 (We predicted 9 starters correctly last week)
Arsenal GW5 Predicted formation:
- 4-3-3
Arsenal GW5 Predicted lineup:
Ramsdale
White – Saliba – Gabriel – Tierney
Xhaka – Lokonga – Odegaard
Saka – Jesus – Martinelli
PC Update(27/8/2022)
“I don’t think so. We still have to make another scan, especially on Thomas, to see the length but I don’t think they will be available. It is a similar area [to the one that kept Partey out last season], but hopefully not as bad.”
– Mikel Arteta on Oleksandr Zinchenko and Thomas Partey for the game vs Villa
Aston Villa
Another defeat, this time at the hands of West Ham, has put Stephen Gerrard’s job in even more danger. Once again, the defeat came after several changes to the side. Callum Chambers replaced Tyrone Mings, with Danny Ings, Douglas Luiz, and Phillippe Coutinho also coming in for Leon Bailey, Jacob Ramsey, and Emi Buendia. With Coutinho once again on the periphery of the game, he may drop straight back out for Bailley who came on in the second half. Ramsey should also return after coming on for Luiz after the latter was playing particularly well.
Last week’s success rate: 8/11 (We predicted 8 starters correctly last week)
Aston Villa GW5 Predicted Formation
- 4-3-1-2
Aston Villa GW5 Predicted Lineup:
Martinez
Cash – Mings – Konsa – Digne
Kamara – McGinn – Ramsey
Coutinho
Ings – Watkins
PC Update(30/8/2022)
“Phil’s issue at the weekend was down to fatigue and cramp. He should be available, and we’ve still got a full session to go before so hopefully, we get through that.” – Steven Gerrard
Bournemouth
Scott Parker made numerous changes for the clash with Liverpool and it’s fair to say they didn’t pay off. The only positive they could take from the weekend’s humiliation was the return of Solanke who came off the bench. Solanke should go straight in the starting lineup for the Wolves fixture, as should Billing who was also benched against Liverpool.
Last week’s success rate: 7/11 (We predicted 7 starters correctly last week)
Bournemouth GW5 Predicted formation
- 3-4-3
Bournemouth GW5 Predicted lineup:
Travers
Lerma – Sensei – Kelly
Zemura – Cook – Billing – Smith
Moore – Solanke – Marcus Tavernier
Brighton
Graham Potter made a change to the 11 for the first time this season, with new signing Pervis Estupiñan coming into the team and Adam Lallana getting a rest. With a game just three days after their last, I’d expect more changes for the Fulham game. After playing in the carabao cup, Tariq Lamptey could come into the side in place of March who could be rested.
Last week’s success rate: 10/11 (We predicted 10 starters correctly last week)
Brighton GW5 Predicted formation
- 3-4-1-2
Brighton GW5 Predicted lineup:
Sanchez
Veltman – Webster – Dunk
Lamptey – MacAllister – Mwepu – Pervis estupiñan
Gross – Trossard
Welbeck
PC/Injury updates(29/08/22)
“Adam Lallana’s still not available and we’re assessing Joel Veltman, who came off with some stiffness in his neck. “He’s better today, so we’ll make a decision closer to the game.”
Potter from the press conference ahead of the Fulham game
Brentford
In spite of the success the back three has brought Brentford, Thomas Frank seems wedded to the back four as he once more adopted it against Everton in GW4.
When new signing Keane Lewis-Potter came on, he changed the game and was instrumental in Brentford’s goal so he should get the nod against Crystal Palace. With Wissa being hooked early and not play especially well, he could be the one to miss out.
Last week’s success rate: 9/11 (We predicted 9 starters correctly last week)
Brentford GW5 Predicted formation:
- 4-3-3
Brentford GW5 Predicted lineup:
Raya
Hickey – Janson – Mee – Henry
Norgard – Jensen
Dasilva
Mbeumo – Toney – Lewis Potter
Chelsea
As expected, Thiago Silva replaced the suspended Koulibaly for Chelsea, but Trevor Chalobah coming into the side was somewhat of a surprise. After Koulibaly’s sending-off in the last match, Connor Gallagher followed suit against Leicester by getting himself sent off. With Mateo Kovacic now back from injury, he could come in for Gallagher. Mason Mount was also taken off early but he should still start against Southampton in the absence of alternatives that Tuchel trusts. Koulibally should also come back in.
Last week’s success rate: 9/11 (We predicted 9 starters correctly last week)
Chelsea GW5 Predicted formation:
- 3-4-1-2
Chelsea GW5 Predicted lineup:
Mendy,
Chalobah- Thiago Silva – Koulibaly
Azpilicueta – Loftus Cheek – Jorginho – Cucurella
Mount
Sterling – Havertz
PC/Injury updates(29/08/22)
Koulibaly is back from suspension but Gallagher is suspended for this game. Kante is out and Kovacic is still not ready for a full game according to Tuchel. Azpilicueta was praised by Tuchel in the press and could be rewarded with a start.
Team updates:
Many reliable updates have come in suggesting that James has not travelled for the trip to Southampton. Make the decisions at your own peril.

Crystal Palace
As expected, Patrick Vierra opted to play a back three against Man City, just as he did against Liverpool. However, against Brentford, I’d expect them to resort to a back four. Either one of Ward or Clyne could drop out, but I’d be leaning towards the former at this point. Zaha missed the game against Man City and there hasn’t been any news as to whether he’ll be back for the Brentford game. Considering it’s only a three-day turnaround, I’ll hazard a guess he could once more miss out.
Last week’s success rate: 10/11 (We predicted 10 starters correctly last week)
Crystal Palace GW5 Predicted Formation
- 4-3-3
Crystal Palace GW5 Predicted lineup:
Guaita
Clyne – Guehi – Anderson – Mitchell
Schlupp – Doucoure
Olise – Eze – Ayew
Edouard
PC/Injury updates(29/08/22)
Vieira did not add anything other than “wait and see” on the availability of Zaha who missed the City game and Mitchell who suffered a knock vs City.
Everton
The only changes for Everton for the Brentford game were ones we had seen coming, with Onana and McNeill coming in for Davies and Rondon. Though I’m sure Lampard would like to rotate the side with a game just three days later, the depth of the squad probably doesn’t allow that at this stage. The only possible change I can envisage is that of Vinagre coming in for Mykolenko but even then I’d consider that quite unlikely.
Last week’s success rate: 11/11 (We predicted all 11 starters correctly last week)
Everton GW5 Predicted formation
- 3-4-2-1
Everton GW5 Predicted lineup
Pickford
Keane – Tarkowski – Coady
Paterson – Onana – Iwobi – Mykolenko
Gray – McNeil
Gordon
PC/Injury updates(29/08/22)
Maupay will be part of the team for Tuesday and Holgate will be out for a few weeks.
“Mason opened up his knee and felt some pain. The feeling is it’ll be weeks, as a maximum, we hope.”
Lampard on Holgate
Fulham
Slightly surprisingly, Jay Stansfield came out of the side straight away for Neiskins Kebano. Other than that Fulham went in unchanged. They may opt to rotate the full backs for the next game but with only one game a week for the most part, they will probably persist with the same lineup.
Last week’s success rate: 11/11 (We predicted all 11 starters correctly last week)
Fulham GW5 Predicted formation:
- 4-2-3-1
Fulham GW5 Predicted lineup:
Leno
Tete -Tosin – Ream – Robinson,
Palhinha – H Reed
B Reid – Andreas – Kebano
Mitrovic
PC/Injury updates(29/08/22)
No fresh injury concerns for Fulham with Solomon and Harry Wilson the only long-term absentees.
Leeds United
With new signing Luis Sinisterra now available, I’d expect him to come into the side at the expense of Dan James. Besides this, Leeds could go in with the same team, despite the three-day turnaround. A number of their starters were taken off early which could be an indication of Marsh persisting with the team that has brought him success so far this season.
Last week’s success rate: 11/11 (We predicted all 11 starters correctly last week)
Leeds United GW5 Predicted formation:
- 4-2-3-1
Leeds United GW5 Predicted lineup:
Meslier
Kristensen – Llorente – Koch – Struijk
Adams, Roca,
Sinisterra – Aaronson – Harrison
Rodrigo
PC/Injury updates(29/08/22)
Marsch confirms Bamford is close for the match against Everton. Sinisterra and Klich could be options to start. Dallas, Firpo and Ayling are long term absentees.
Leicester City
With Wesley Fofana already missing for Leicester due to his impending move to Chelsea, things got even worse for Leicester as James Maddison was ruled out of the Chelsea match with an injury. As of yet, its unclear if he’ll be back for the United game but with the contest still 5 days away, Leicester will be hoping that he can return in time.
Last week’s success rate: 8/11 (We predicted 8 starters correctly last week)
Leicester City GW5 Predicted formation:
- 4-3-3
Leicester City GW5 Predicted lineup:
Ward
Castagne – Amartey – Evans – Justin
Ndidi – Tielemans – Dewsbury-Hall
Maddison – Vardy – Barnes
PC Update(30/8/2022)
We’ve had most of the guys training and available as was for the weekend. [On] James Maddison, we’re hopeful, but we’ll see how he is tomorrow.”
– Brendan Rodgers
Liverpool
Liverpool’s 9-0 annihilation of Bournemouth was a near-perfect performance, so they will likely persist with the same team against Newcastle.
Last week’s success rate: 11/11 (We predicted all 11 starters correctly last week)
Liverpool GW5 Predicted formation
- 4-3-3
Liverpool GW5 Predicted lineup:
Allison
Alexander Arnold – Van Dijk – Gomez – Robertson
Henderson – Fabinho – Eliott
Salah – Firmino – Diaz
Manchester City
In yet another instance of peak Pep, Ilkay Gundogan was left out for Riyadh Mahrez. However, this should mean that Gundogan now plays the majority of games going forward.
Despite predicting Foden to be rested for each of the last two gameweeks, he has started both so may continue doing so.
The biggest question on the lips of all FPL managers will be that of whether or not Haaland will start. With the three-day turnaround and an upcoming schedule of 2 games every week, it’s more or less impossible for Haaland to start every match. Considering he is coming fresh off a hat trick though, I can’t see him sitting this one out with his confidence as high as it currently is. The weekend’s clash with Villa, or even the Champion’s League may serve as better opportunities for him to be rested.
Last week’s success rate: 10/11 (We predicted 10 starters correctly last week)
Manchester City GW5 Predicted formation
- 4-2-3-1
Manchester City GW5 Predicted lineup:
Ederson
Walker – Dias -Stones – Cancelo,
Rodri – Gundogan,
B Silva – De Bruyne – Foden
Haaland
PC Update(30/8/2022)
Manchester United
Man United went into the game with Southampton against an unchanged 11 from that which beat Liverpool. New signing Casemiro came off the bench for his debut and he should receive his first start against Leicester on Thursday. Cristiano Ronaldo could come in for Anthony Elanga too. I’d expect Elanga to start the Arsenal match on Sunday, only three days after the Leicester match so he could have a rest against Leicester.
Last week’s success rate: 10/11 (We predicted 10 starters correctly last week)
Manchester United GW5 Predicted formation:
- 4-2-3-1
Manchester United GW5 Predicted lineup:
De Gea
Dalot – Martinez – Varane – Malacia
Eriksen – Casemiro
Rashford – Bruno – Sancho
Ronaldo
Newcastle United
Despite going off with a nasty looking head injury against Man City, Dan Burn was fit to start against Wolves. Bruno Guimaraes was also absent through injury but he could be back for the Liverpool game.
Chris Wood started with Callum Wilson out injured. Providing new signing Alexander Isak’s work permit comes through in time, he should start up front. With injuries to key players like Wilson, ASM and Bruno and games happening in quick time, we could see Howe switch to a back 3 for this game.
Last week’s success rate: 9/11 (We predicted 9 starters correctly last week)
Newcastle United GW5 Predicted formation:
- 3-4-3
Newcastle United GW5 Predicted lineup:
Pope
Botman – Schar – Burn
Trippier – Longstaff – Joelinton – Targett
Almiron – Isak – Fraser
PC Update(30/8/2022)
“He’s doing well. I don’t know about this game coming up, but hopefully not long after if he doesn’t make this game. He’s very positive, in good spirits, desperate to get back and be involved. He’s a big player for us and we need to get him back as quickly as possible. Just a slight hamstring.”
– Eddie Howe on Bruno Guimaraes
Nottingham Forest
As it was presumed he would, Morgan GibbsWhite received his first start against Tottenham with Awoniyi the sacrifice. Ryan Yates also started for the first time this season as he came in for Mangala.
With the size of their squad, we could well see some changes for the Man City game. Emmanuel Dennis could come into the front three seeing as there was a clear issue with Forest not having an out-and-out striker on the pitch against Tottenham. Following a string of subpar performances, Jesse Lingard could miss out.
Last week’s success rate: 10/11 (We predicted 10 starters correctly last week)
Nottingham Forest GW5 Predicted formation:
- 3-4-3
Nottingham Forest GW5 Predicted lineup
Henderson
Worrall – Cook – McKenna
Williams – O’Brien – Yates – Toffolo
Lingard – Johnson – Gibbs White
PC Update- 30/8/2022
Mangala, Niakhate, Omar Richards are all ruled out for GW5 game against City as confirmed by Steve Cooper.
Southampton
Despite the loss to Man United, Southampton’s performance was by and large a positive one so I’d expect the same formation to persist. In terms of changes to the side, Mohamed Elyounoussi was fairly quiet throughout so he could be replaced by Seiku Mara up front. Adam Armstrong was fairly ineffective as well so he could be replaced by his name’s sake Stuart.
Roman Perraud being back from injury should mean that he

Aribo – Armstrong

PC/Injury updates(29/08/22)
No fresh injury concerns for Southampton with Tino Livramento the only long-term absentee for Saints.
Tottenham
Spurs went in to the Nottingham Forest game with the same 11 as that which beat Wolves last week, so we can expect some changes for their GW5 fixture with West Ham, particularly in the full-back positions. Emerson Royal could miss out for Matt Doherty, but Ivan Perisic should stay in the side in order to negate West Ham’s areal threat.
Heung Min Son has looked like a shadow of the player we saw last season thus far and Richarlison was lively when he came on, getting the assist for Kane’s second goal. Son may therefore drop to the bench with the Brazilian taking his spot. It should be this game or the game against Fulham. We think Son will be rested for the Fulham game in GW6.
“Now every time he’s playing, for 20, 30, 40 minutes, he’s playing very well. For sure, in the next game(s), you will see him from the starting XI. “I didn’t say this [that he will definitely start against West Ham]! I said that probably in the future you can see in the starting XI, Richarlison. Then if the game is against West Ham, Fulham or Marseille, then I have to decide. Not specific.” – Antonio Conte on Richarlison
There’s still no news on Romero’s return so we can presume he’ll still be out.
It’s a close call regarding Perisic/Sessegnon, watch out for Paul O Keefe’s predicted lineup as he’s very reliable with the Spurs predicted lineup. (Link to his Twitter)

Spurs GW5 Predicted lineup:

West Ham
David Moyes made two changes to his side following a disappointing start to the season. After impressing off the bench, Scamacca was handed his first start, as was new signing Emerson who as it so happens is priced £4.0 in FPL. With a game in three days time, I’d expect more changes. Mikel Antonio could come back in possibly in a straight swap for Scamacca himself. Coufal could also come back into the team after his absence against Villa.

Wolves
As we predicted, Raul Jimenez came in for Daniel Podents after returning from injury. Other than that, Rayan AitNouri was replaced by Nelson Semedo. With Jonny having played every game so far, combined with his injury history, he could be due a rest with AitNouri coming back in.

As we said when predicting the GW4 lineups, there will definitely be some incorrect calls in here, however, we’ll always do our best job with the news we have. Article penned by @FPLHindsight(Drop him a follow on Twitter)
