GW4 proved to be an exciting one for most FPL managers with Premium options like Haaland, TAA returning huge. This has made some managers think about Wildcard as an option ahead of GW5, which is not a bad idea at all. With unlimited transfers available after GW16 due to the World Cup break, an early Wildcard also makes sense. It all depends on the team structure, what all players you want and when. In this article, we will look at the pros and cons of using Wildcard in GW5, Best Wildcard drafts to consider ahead of FPL GW5.

FPL GW5 Wildcard Guide
Pros of playing Wildcard in FPL GW5:
- Easy route to must-own players like Haaland, TAA and Jesus if you haven’t got them and got behind due to price changes.
- Go to the Team structure which you want without multiple hits.
- Allows you to do some sideways moves like Son to Kane, Saka to Martinelli, etc.
- Can go from a Big at the Back(5 defenders) formation to a three striker formation Haaland/Kane- Jesus- Toney/Mitrovic easily.
- Can go to rotation proof players outside Top 6 team like Zaha, Rodrigo, Trippier, Toney who wont have mid week football and hence no rotation.
- Take advantage of spotting Differentials if you have already spotted them. Some players might be Differentials now, but highly owned around GW8.
Cons of Playing Wildcard in FPL GW5:
- Might not be more than 5 players changing from your current squad and Wildcard draft.
- Top 6 teams will start rotating more with European Football(midweek) starting after GW6.
- Might need Wildcard little later when we get more injuries/suspensions.
- Uncertainty around the game time, fitness of players like Perisic, Cucurella and Chilwell.

Key notes about the Draft
- The template Wildcard draft which a big at the back strategy- TAA, Cancelo, James, Perisic and Walker.
- Walker could be Trippier after the GW5 fixture against Liverpool and Newcastle also become full strength.
- Cancelo can be downgraded to Saliba/Fofona if required which can be used to get Kulusevski in place of Martinelli. Moves like these could even create funds for a third striker option in Toney/Mitrovic.
Late Injury update: Reece James is injured and is expected not to play in GW5. Although it’s not known for how long he’ll be missing from action. You can downgrade him to the likes of Saliba/Cucurella. As it’s last minute we are not able to update the draft, apologies for the same.

Key notes about the Draft
- Differential “No Salah” Wildcard draft which will help you break away from the template.
- Estupinan, Sterling/Bruno Fernandes, Mitrovic, Kulusevski could be valuable Differential players.
- Strong bench with Mitrovic and Pereira.
- 1.2 million left in the bank which can be used to upgrade and change structure later on.
- With the money in the bank, Mitrovic could be replaced by Toney in the squad. And then go back to Mitrovic around GW8 when fixtures ease for Fulham.
