Welcome to the second of what’s going to be a weekly column from me (@deevyaparekh), here on AllAboutFPL! Inspired by one of the first FPL blogs I ever read on Twitter back in 2012, I think it would be helpful to combine stats with the eye-test to bring you 2 players each that I’d recommend are a ‘Buy’, ‘Hold’ or a ‘Sell’ moving forward and provide substance that should hopefully add some value to readers. Here go my recommendations ahead of FPL Gameweek 4.

FPL Gameweek 4 Transfer Tips: Two players to BUY
1) Harry Kane (11.4, Tottenham Hotspur, FWD)
Harry Kane has taken a price drop and is owned by just 17.6% of FPL managers at the time of writing, under a third of price-rival Erling Haaland’s 61.7% ownership! However, there are several reasons why I think a move to Kane, a shift from Haaland or otherwise, could be a good idea over the next couple of Gameweeks.
Harry Kane had 4 shots and 1 key pass for an xG of 0.90 and xA of 0.13 against Wolves this weekend. He’s grabbed a goal from a corner for the second game running, possibly an intentional tactic from Spurs’ new well-renowned set-piece coach. We are also about to embark on a stretch of league and European games where clubs including Spurs will play nearly every midweek between now and the World Cup break. However, as Pep Guardiola publicly suggested that this congested schedule will see rotation for Haaland, Conte’s history of playing Kane till the end of games suggests a strong emphasis on his importance to the side and certainly a greater degree of nailed-on-ness than Haaland over the next 4-6 weeks.
Kane is on penalties, has a decent run of fixtures starting with Nottingham Forest this gameweek and might emerge as a reliable captaincy option in a schedule which could see reduced starts for the likes of Haaland and potentially even Son and De Bruyne. He also looked sharp against Wolves and was taking up positions in the box often as seen by his heat map below, compared to times where he’s often played deep and looked to set Son off. This may be an intentional change or due to Son still getting up to speed but certainly works in Kane’s favour at the moment.
2) Jack Harrison (6.0, Leeds United, MID)
A player that’s gone under the radar a bit due to Rodrigo’s lightning start to the season has been Jack Harrison. Leeds are playing some bright, attacking football and Jack Harrison has been key to their excellent start. The Englishman may not be putting up numbers to rival Rodrigo (our ‘BUY’ recommendation from last week) but is still showing up very well as an option for managers who can’t quite stretch to Rodrigo’s 6.3 or the risk-takers looking to double-up on Leeds’ attack.
Harrison has notched an assist in all 3 games so far this season and bagged a goal against Chelsea this weekend to bring home his first double-digit return of the season. He has been taking set-pieces for Leeds which boosts his appeal. Against Chelsea, Harrison had 2 shots and 1 key pass for an xG of 0.98 and xA of 0.10.
Brighton away is a fixture Leeds have struggled in, in the past but given his consistent level of production and how good Leeds have looked in attack this season, Harrison is a very good set-and-forget midfield pickup from now till potential wildcard opportunities between GWs 8 to 10.

FPL Gameweek 4 Transfer Tips: Two players to HOLD
My initial instinct for a ‘HOLD’ pick was going to be Luis Diaz or Trent Alexander-Arnold on the back of a shock defeat to Manchester United and no wins so far this season however I think it’s not a useful suggestion given that Liverpool now come up against promoted side Bournemouth in GW4. So instead, I’ve picked two other mid-priced Midfielders here.
1) Jarrod Bowen (8.3, MID, West Ham)
West Ham have made a dismal start to the season and Jarrod Bowen has suffered similarly from the team’s slow start. Elite output from last season led to what FPL managers wondered was a slight overpricing for the winger from FPL towers and his poor start to the season has already seen him drop by 0.2 in value.
He had 3 shots and 1 key pass for an xG of 0.15 and xA of 0.08 from their weekend fixture against Brighton, hardly numbers to write home about. However, he looked in good positions per the eye-test and heat map from the game, shown below, backs this up with decent presence in the penalty box. Up next, he has an Aston Villa side who’s looked defensively suspect this season who play with their fullbacks pushed high up the pitch. This might create the room and opportunity for Bowen to get his first FPL return of the season. If you’ve owned Bowen through these 3 gameweeks, I’d encourage you to give him one more game and look elsewhere to use a transfer this week (or save it!) as instinct tells me he’ll have chances this gameweek.

2) Mason Mount (7.9, MID, Chelsea)
Like Bowen above, Mount has suffered from his team making a slow start to the season. Unusually for him, he’s been subbed off before the end twice in three games now and no returns so far, owners are right to feel nervous.
However, he looked threatening against Leeds and always shows several avenues to points with some set-pieces also in his locker. He was close to the most advanced outfield player in average position against Leeds and had 3 shots and 4 key passes for an xG of 0.21 and xA of 0.22. Plenty of penalty area involvement too.
He comes up against a Leicester side who look in terrible form defensively and are struggling to find their best goalkeeper option too. Per underlying metrics, its a very favourable game from an offensive standpoint and owners should consider holding and giving Mount this game before deciding to offload him.

FPL Gameweek 4 Transfer Tips: Two players to SELL
My least favourite part of this piece, it’s always difficult to pick decently owned FPL assets that are firm sales. This showed last week in correctly suggesting a Coutinho benching but picking Sancho against Liverpool following an early sub-off only for him to grab an incredible goal!
1) Kai Havertz (7.9, FWD, Chelsea)
The German centre-forward, as discussed for Mount above, has struggled in an attacking unit that have struggled as a whole this season. However, unlike Mount, Havertz looked peripheral and deeper against Leeds and his touches and movement aren’t appearing as sharp as they should be. Even though Broja is currently injured, Sterling can play centre-forward if Tuchel opted to sub Havertz off and the well-documented chase for 33-year-old striker Aubameyang suggests Tuchel’s looking for firm competition for that forward spot.
He had no shots and 1 key pass against Leeds for 0 xG and 0.07 xA.

2) Pedro Neto (5.4, MID, Wolves)
Neto hasn’t done too badly, especially at his price but given how well some other budget midfielders like Gross, Harrison and Rodrigo are doing, it’s hard to recommend holding onto the Wolves winger and he only comes in as a SELL recommendation owing to his huge 10.4% ownership – a much higher number than his current data should merit.
Wolves have struggled in attack and the competition for places has got fiercer with the signing of Goncalo Guedes adding to the return to fitness for Jimenez and Adama Traore. The potential impact of a fresh Adama Traore off the bench suggests to me that Neto might see reduced minutes due to being subbed for the former and while he’s a creative hub for his team, he’s currently showing very little goal threat.
He had 1 shot and 3 key passes against Spurs but they were all low-quality chances with a combined xGI of just 0.09.

Watchlist
Watchlist options Pascal Gross and Ilkay Gundogan both returned last week. Wilfried Zaha is a near-definite recommendation to buy but we thought a fixture against Manchester City might warrant holding off 1 more week, if need be. Brendan Aaronson from Leeds and Marcus Rashford from Manchester United, both also mid-priced midfielders have entered my watchlist from their performance this gameweek.
Toney and Mitrovic continue to look like incredible options and it’s only a matter of time before the template shifts to accommodate the ‘mid price’ striker slot.
