Welcome to FPL DGW28 Transfer Trends and Best Transfer Combinations! This is a weekly series where we take a bit of time to analyze some of the major transfer trends on FPL prior to the deadline.
Blank Gameweek 27 saw many managers activate their Free Hit chip, with others hoping that the template Free Hit team didn’t cause too much damage. All sights were on Burnley’s double, which ended up being very underwhelming. Nevertheless, we progress to another quick succession of double gameweeks.
This week, we can see the transfer trends show people buying players from Liverpool, Southampton, Wolves, Tottenham, and Newcastle. The top 5 transfers OUT come from West Ham United, Man United, and Newcastle.

Jota (0 points) to Son (9 points) ✅
Edouard (0 points) to Kane (11 points) ✅
Spurs picks excelled for the DGW27 transfer trends. We move onto DGW28!
Top Transfers Ins and Outs Ahead of FPL DGW28
The West Ham duo of Bowen (161k) and Antonio (135k) make the top two of the top transfers out list, followed by the United premiums of Fernandes (120k) and Ronaldo (114k). Both teams face tougher fixtures and do not double in the next few gameweeks.
The top transfers out list is completed by Saint-Maximin, who sees 107k managers transfer him out due to an injury.
On the flip side, Salah makes it to the top of the transfers in list again this week, with another 233k managers wanting him in against West Ham. Southampton forward Adams sees 186k managers bring him in ahead of Southampton’s double.
135k managers bring in Jimenez ahead of Wolves’ favourable double in DGW28, while 119k managers bring in Kane after his haul in BGW27. Finally, Newcastle’s Joe Willock makes the 5th spot on the top transfers list, with 118k managers wanting to target Newcastle’s back-to-back double fixtures.
The 3 transfer combinations we will be focusing on are: Weghorst to Broja, Bowen to Coutinho, and Mee to Rudiger.
Top Three FPL GW28 Transfer Trends Combinations
FPL GW28 Transfer Combination 1:
Wout Weghorst (£6.6) to Armando Broja (£5.5)
Despite being one of the most captained players in BGW27, Weghorst’s underwhelming 3 points in Burnley’s double fixture in GW27 has prompted managers to look elsewhere for forward options. Many have set their sights on Southampton budget forward Broja.
With Southampton’s favourable double fixture in DGW28, many will be looking towards their assets. Broja presents amazing value at 5.5m, given his liveliness in the game and goal threat.
Teammate Che Adams (7.0m) is also worth considering for those who are looking for a differential pick at a higher price; however, Broja is the best among sub 7.0m forwards for shots on target (7) and shots in the box (12). He is 4th best for most touches in the box.
I would like to say here that Adams is a pretty good differential pick as well. A bit debate will be who to choose between Adams and Broja. Adams actually has a better xG and xGI. However, I feel that, in terms of value, Broja is arguably the better pick, almost 1.5m cheaper with decent stats.
Who do Southampton face in DGW28?
Southampton play Aston Villa away and Newcastle at home in DGW28. The Villa game will be the tougher of the two; however, Villa concede the 3rd most headed attempts (20) in the last 6 gameweeks.
Newcastle will be the fixture to target, as they have conceded the 2nd most big chances this season and the 4th most goals conceded so far.
With Newcastle’s xGC of 1.7 and Aston Villa’s 1.47, we could possibly see Broja on the scoresheet.

FPL DGW28 Transfer Combination 2:
Jarrod Bowen (£7.1) to Philippe Coutinho (£7.4)
West Ham’s tough run of fixtures in the next few gameweeks has seen 10.5% of managers make the switch to Villa attacker Coutinho.
With a double in GW28 and a fixture in BGW30, Coutinho is a possible captain pick for Villa’s double fixtures against Southampton and Leeds. In the reverse fixture, Coutinho claimed a total of 16 points, scoring a goal and 2 assists.
Among all Villa midfielders since GW22, Coutinho is the best for total shots (14), shots on target (5), shots in the box (6), touches in the box (14), and xGI (2.5). He is also on set-pieces, boosting his xA to 1.3.
For managers that may have enough budget, Coutinho is a worthy captain pick for this Double Gameweek.
Who do Aston Villa face in DGW28?
Villa play Southampton at home and Leeds away in DGW28. In the last 13 away games, Southampton have conceded at least 2 goals. They have also conceded 11 big chances in all away games from GW22-27.
Leeds have conceded the most big chances, shots in the box, shots on target, and goals in the last 6 gameweeks.
Aston Villa and Coutinho should look to capitalize on these favourable fixtures in the Double.

FPL DGW28 Transfer Combination 3:
Ben Mee (£4.8) to Antonio Rüdiger (£6.1)
After Burnley’s underwhelming double gameweek results in BGW27, 22.1% of managers have already set their sights on Chelsea defenders after the announcement of their gameweek, Rudiger being a prime target.
The majority of managers have looked at James and Rudiger. James provides the explosiveness in assist and goal involvement potential; however, for those looking for a safer route into the Chelsea defense, Rudiger would be the pick to go for.
Among all defenders this season, Rudiger is 4th for total shots. He presents decent goal threat against two of the league’s poorer defenses. According to Drafthound, the odds for a clean sheet in both games are very high, 45% chance of a clean sheet against Burnley and 49% against Norwich – the highest among all teams in DGW28.
He is a decent captain shout given Chelsea’s good odds of a clean sheet, as well as Rudiger’s added goal threat.
Who do Chelsea face in DGW28?
Chelsea play Burnley and Norwich away in DGW28. In the last 6 gameweeks, Burnley have conceded the most shots (121) and shots in the box (78). Norwich have conceded the 2nd most goals after Leeds (46), and, along with Burnley, have conceded the most shots and shots in the box this season among all teams.
This is a great pair of fixtures in the Double Gameweek to target.
That has been 3 potential transfer combinations that FPL managers could consider prior to the Gameweek 28 deadline. Hope this blog provided a bit of insight on viable FPL moves you could take!
