FPL GW28 Sunday Fixtures Review
2 Premier League games this Sunday that had varying implications for FPL managers. The Watford v Arsenal game was crucial for Bench boosters with 2 if not 3 players from 4 on BB benches being Arsenal players. Game #2 was the big Manchester derby that, in contrast to its magnitude as a game and for the league, didn’t have significant FPL implications given Cancelo’s drop in ownership.
Watford outscored Arsenal on xG however Arsenal scored 3 goals from low xG chances and spent a majority of the game in the lead so game-state had a bit to do with it. It was a game that went much the way of Arsenal attack ownership over defense.
Martin Odegaard (5.5m, MID) had 1 shot taken inside the box and created 4 chances for a team-high xGI of 0.31 but 0.24 of it came from xA. Arsenal as a team had 0 big chances.
Lacazette (8.3m, FWD) continued his role as creator with 2 chances created with an xA of 0.17 and 2 shots from inside the box with an xG of 0.13.
Gabriel Martinelli (5.3m, MID) is likely going to be very popular midfield transfer leading up to BGW30 given his price and threat. He had 3 shots, 1 from inside the box and created 1 chance for an xG of 0.15 and xGI of 0.22.
Bukayo Saka (6.5m, MID) hauled to either delight or annoy managers depending on if they played him. He had 1 shot, taken from inside the box and created 2 chances for an xGI of 0.21.
For Watford, Josh King wasn’t involved in the matchday squad while Emmanuel Dennis played up front and again, passed the eye test.
Dennis (6.1m, FWD) had 4 shots, 3 from inside the box with 1 big chance and created 1 big chance for a game-high xG of 0.55 and xGI of 0.59.

Manchester City vs Manchester United
The second game of the day was the big Manchester derby. Manchester City set-up with 6 attackers good with ball retention and no runners suggesting City were going to attempt to pass Manchester United into submission. United were without Ronaldo, Cavani and crucially Varane so they attempted a 4-2-2-2 of sorts with Bruno, Pogba and Sancho taking up positions high up the pitch. City led 2-1 at the end of the first half, 2 goals from poor United defending while Sancho scored a great goal on the break but the second half was a different story. City dominated United and were untouchable, ending the second half with 14-0 for shots.
Kevin De Bruyne (11.8m, MID) produced another big game masterclass. He had 6 shots, 5 from inside the box, 1 big chance and created 5 chances for a day-high xGI of 1.13 with a massive 0.93 from open play xG.
Mahrez (8.7m, MID) remains an interesting but frustrating FPL option. He inevitably does well when he does play but his random benchings by Pep make it less than ideal. The Algerian winger started this game and notched a phenomenal 8 shots, 7 from inside the box including 1 big chance for an xG of 0.71. He had a significant presence in the penalty box as shown below. Whether he’s a risk worth taking is a different story – likely hold off while there’s other strong midfield options with double GWs.
Phil Foden (7.9m, MID) had a great game and was a bit unfortunate not to come away with any returns. He had 4 shots, 3 from inside the box including 1 big chance for an xG of 0.47. His heatmap below shows a strong penalty box presence and was both central and furthest forward for average position from Manchester City players.
