FPL Transfers Gameweek 26 Deadline
Saturday 19th February 2022 at 11:00 AM BST
We will take a look at the players that managers are rushing to get in their teams, as well as the players managers are booting out. Then, we will dive into three main transfer combinations that could be decent moves to make ahead of the upcoming gameweek.
RECAP of GW25 TRANSFER TRENDS
Gray (0 points) to Ramsey (1 point) ❌
Mount (0 points) to Fernandes (12 points) ✅
Kane (2 points) to Ronaldo (10 points) ✅
Both United assets worked out. We move onto DGW26!
Top Transfers Ins and Outs Ahead of FPL DGW26
Fernandes (219k) leads the top transfers out prior to the DGW26 deadline, despite scoring in the last minute against Brighton. City playmaker De Bruyne follows in second, with 214k managers looking elsewhere for premium midfield options.
Gallagher’s ineligibility to play against Chelsea sees 192k managers take him out of their teams. 183k managers transfer out Ronaldo, despite ending his goal drought against Brighton. Finally, news of Jota’s injury has prompted 140k managers to look elsewhere ahead of Liverpool’s Double in 26.
On the flip side, Salah heads the charge for top transfers in, with a staggering (and a number that’s likely to increase further closer to the deadline) 584k managers bringing him in ahead of very favourable Double Gameweek fixtures for Liverpool. Arsenal’s Saka (197k) also sees managers bring him in ahead of Arsenal’s decent double.
Southampton forward Broja makes an appearance on the top transfers in list, with 119k managers wanting him in for his fixture against Everton. Bowen sees 118k managers transfer him in ahead of West Ham’s fixture against Newcastle.
Finally, Coutinho makes it to 5th place on the top transfers in list, with 102k managers hoping he goes big against Watford.
The 3 transfer combinations we will be focusing on are: Fernandes to Salah, Reguilon to Robertson, and Ronaldo to Lacazette.
Top Three FPL DGW26 Transfer Trends Combinations
FPL DGW26 Transfer Combination 1:
Bruno Fernandes (£11.7) to Mohamed Salah (£13.0)
Despite saving many managers with his last minute goal against Brighton in United’s DGW25, Fernandes sees many managers looking elsewhere for midfield options, a staggering 82.3% of managers making the premium swap to Mohamed Salah.
Quite a textbook move, given Salah and Liverpool have one of the best Double Gameweek fixtures we’ve ever seen. Both home games against arguably the weakest teams in the league, Norwich and Leeds. We can expect Salah’s expected ownership (EO) to skyrocket! He’s in contention as a potential triple captain pick for managers who may still hold the chip.
Although Salah has remained relatively quiet in terms of FPL points after his return from AFCON, Salah is still the best midfielder statistically for total shots (85), shots on target (41), shots in the box (70), big chances (26), big chances created (6), xGI (1.1), and touches in the box (217). He is arguably the best player in the league and best FPL asset to choose from!
Who do Liverpool face in DGW26?
Liverpool play Norwich and Leeds at home in DGW26. As briefly mentioned earlier, Norwich and Leeds are both very weak defensively. This season so far, Norwich are worst for total shots conceded (365), worst for shots on target conceded (71), and 2nd worst for shots in the box conceded (122).
Leeds follow closely behind, being 2nd worst for total shots conceded behind Norwich (357), and 2nd worst for shots on target conceded (127). Norwich have an xGC of 1.9, Leeds 1.8. I think we can expect Liverpool to score at least 2+ goals in these two games, with Salah having a high chance of goal involvement.
FPL DGW26 Transfer Combination 2:
Sergio Reguilon (£5.4) to Andy Robertson (£7.1)
Spurs wingback Reguilon seems to have lost his starting spot in the Spurs XI under Conte, to the disappointment of those who brought him in on a GW20 wildcard (myself included). Even though Spurs have a Double Gameweek, managers have made the swap from the Spaniard to Liverpool wingback Andy Robertson.
While the vast majority of FPL managers already own Alexander-Arnold, bringing in Robertson could help to boost rank, given Liverpool have a very high chance for two clean sheets, with 62% clean sheet odds against Norwich and 51% against Leeds (Drafthound).
Statistically in the last 6 games, Robertson is first among defenders for penalty touches, key passes, and touches in the final third. He is also 2nd best for expected goal involvement and big chances created. Alongside a few Arsenal defender options, he is a very good pick in the defense.
While there are plenty of decent Liverpool picks to target these stellar fixtures, Robertson is a tad bit more nailed compared to the likes of Mane and Firmino with Jota’s injury and the introduction of Diaz.
Who do Liverpool face in DGW26?
Liverpool play Norwich and Leeds at home in DGW26. As mentioned above, Norwich and Leeds are arguably the weaker defenses in the league.
In addition to the defensive stats provided under Salah’s segment, Norwich are worst (in the last 6 games) for chances conceded from set-pieces. This boosts Robertson’s xAssists potential, given he is on set-pieces.
FPL DGW26 Transfer Combination 3:
Cristiano Ronaldo (£12.5) to Alexandre Lacazette (£8.3)
After finally ending his goal drought, Ronaldo rewarded loyal captainers in DGW25 with a goal against Brighton. Nevertheless, 18.2% of managers have made the switch to Arsenal forward Alexandre Lacazette.
While the straight swap to Kane is also a sensible option, opting for Lacazette isn’t a terrible move either. Apart from Liverpool, Arsenal have pretty decent Double Gameweek fixtures. With Aubameyang’s exit, Lacazette is now Arsenal’s primary striker, and he should be their key penalty taker. He is a great pick for those who intend to Free Hit in GW27, as he blanks but then has a decent run of subsequent fixtures.
AbuBakar Siddiq on Twitter (@BigManBakar) put it best regarding the analysis on Lacazette. See his tweet below:
Who do Arsenal face in DGW26?
Arsenal play Brentford and Wolves at home in DGW26. In the last 6 games, Brentford are worst for total shots conceded (108), and shots on target conceded (44). Brentford have an xGC of 1.7, are 2nd worst for shots in the box conceded (68), and they concede most of their chances down the center (52%).
I expect the Wolves game to be slightly tougher to break down. Despite the chances it will be a lower-scoring game, Wolves still have an xGC of 1.3.
Lacazette is the best forward pick (probably the only pick) from the Arsenal forwards. While many will have the likes of Ramsdale and an Arsenal defender like Tierney or Gabriel, the attackers like Saka and Lacazette will be great picks in the attack.
That has been 3 potential transfer combinations that FPL managers could consider prior to the Double Gameweek 26 deadline. Hope this blog provided a bit of insight on viable FPL moves you could take!
