FPL GW23 Differential Picks(<10% TSB)
Aymeric Laporte vs Southampton(A), TSB: 6.2%, £5.6
Laporte has been one Man City asset who has been raking up points silently. He has started all games since GW15 and has returned in all but one game during the period with five clean sheets, one goal, and two assists.
Laporte also had the same shots on target as Cancelo and TAA. He has also had more shots inside the box, better xG compared to the duo which shows the incredible value offered by Laporte. Dias has been benched by Pep and it seems like Laporte is the nailed CB option from the Man City defence.
Man City go on a great run of fixtures with Southampton, Brentford, Norwich, Spurs, Everton in the next five games. One particularly interesting thing to notice is that Southampton, Brentford, Everton all have been vulnerable in set-piece defending which could play to Laporte’s aerial strengths.

Coutinho vs Everton(A), TSB: 5.2%
Note: Aston Villa are likely to get a Double Gameweek in GW23 with the game against Leeds United likely to be added before the deadline. Keep checking for that news before making your transfers for GW23.
Coutinho marked his return to Premier League with a goal against old foes Manchester United in his substitute appearance. It looked like we saw the return of old Coutinho and Villa changed totally as a side after Coutinho’s introduction into the game. Despite coming on for just 22 mins, Coutinho had 2 shots(Both on target), 1 big chance, xG-0.62 along with 3 penalty box touches. From the eye test also Coutinho looked great with most Villa players looking to find Coutinho after he had come on.
The only thing to be vary about Coutinho and to monitor is his fitness as he hasn’t played for long. You can’t expect him to start every game/play 90 minutes but you will still have a massive upside getting on the Coutinho train early from GW23 where he is at just 5.2% ownership. He is still a good option for the upcoming run of good fixtures even if Villa don’t double in GW23.
Stat attack- Coutinho:
- Coutinho has 3 goals, 2 assists in 7 starts against Everton in the Premier League.
- Villa’s opponents for GW23- Everton, Leeds United(likely) have conceded 93 big chances & 73 goals between them from just 39 games averaging 2.38 big chances and 1.87 goals conceded per game. They rank 15th & 16th for big chances conceded, 14th & 18th for Goals conceded this season.

Lucas Digne vs Everton(A) £5.0, TSB: 5.1%
Lucas Digne not on a blue shirt is going to take some time to get used to and coincidentally he’s up against his former club in FPL GW23 who have sacked Rafa Benitez recently. Digne has now taken up the left-back spot in Gerrard’s system and showed promising signs against Manchester United.
Digne held higher positions on the pitch, dropped into the box often with two shots and one shot on target. He also created two chances in the game, attempted six crosses which goes on to show his versatility as an attacking FPL defender.
Villa have a great run of fixtures(Everton, Leeds, Newcastle, Watford) coming up with a potential double game week as well, Digne could be a shrewd investment in FPL for the upcoming weeks.
Key stat:
Digne has 22 FPL assists over the last 3 seasons despite playing for a team like Everton which is bettered only by Trent Alexander Arnold and Robertson among defenders. Playing for a much attacking side should improve his attacking prospects. Also it is to be noted that Gerrard plays a style of football(evident at Rangers) where there will be attacking returns from full backs.

Foden vs Southampton(A), TSB: 7.5%
For the form Manchester City is in and the upcoming run of fixtures in, A Manchester City midfielder is a must own at the moment if you are looking for an upside. Sterling and De Bruyne are also good options, but it is very difficult to bring back Salah into your teams when he comes back. Logically speaking it is easier for Foden and Salah to co-exist in your team for the longer run than De Bruyne and Salah to co-exist.
With Mahrez out due to AFCON and Grealish not looking so great, Foden is certain to start either as a left winger or as false nine. In his last 3 starts in the league, Foden has 9 shots, 5 shots inside the box, 1 big chance, xG- 0.75, 7 key passes, 3 goal involvements, fetching 26 FPL points(2 double digit hauls) averaging 8.6 points per game. In the next 3 games, the best attacking side in the league are probably up against 3 leaky defenses and it is the best time to target points.
Manchester City’s next 3 opponents defensive numbers(rank) since GW10:
Opponent team | Big chances conceded | Goals conceded | Expected Goals conceded |
Southampton | 27(15th) | 21(16th) | 20.2(15th) |
Brentford | 32(19th) | 27(20th) | 23.4(20th) |
Norwich | 20(11th) | 22(17th) | 19.4(12th) |

Jacob Ramsey vs Everton(A), TSB:2.1%
Philippe Coutinho stole all the headlines after Aston Villa’s 2-2 draw vs Manchester United. But it was Jacob Ramsey, who led the comeback. The midfielder produced a coming of age performance and got himself a goal and an assist in the second half. Ramsey has been playing exceedingly well since the arrival of Steven Gerrard. Here is a look at a very interesting graphic.
The key thing to note here from where Ramsey’s shots are coming from. Whilst he may have more shots under Dean Smith, the ones under Gerrard are more potent. The numbers too match up.
As we can see, Ramsey is giving himself a better chance of getting attacking returns. That is exactly what we FPL managers look for from an asset. Overall he has had 15 touches in the box under Gerrard and 9 under Smith. There is one other stat which stands out. The number of passes made into the final third is 89 in the former case as opposed to just 46 in the latter. This gives us a clear indication of Ramsey playing in a more advanced role under the new boss and is also thinking forward more.
Aston Villa may have a double gameweek this week. Regardless of that being confirmed, Ramsey is a viable option for being the fifth midfielder in your teams. The Villains have amazing run of games coming up with further doubles too. Having begun all but one of the games under current regime, it is safe to say that Ramsey is a nailed on starter.

FPL GW23 Ultra Differential Pick(<1% TSB)
Rayan Ait Nouri vs Brentford(A), TSB:0.9%
Wolves have been one of the best teams in the league in terms of having a good defense. To put it in numbers, only Manchester City(13) have conceded fewer goals than Wolves(15) in the league. One of the big reasons for the Midlands side boasting a solid defense is Rayan Ait Nouri. Here is a look at what Ait Nouri’s numbers looked like prior to his recent injury.
The young defender returned from injury last week with a bang, registering two assists and also playing a key role in the other goal that Wolves scored. Despite missing three more games(overall 11) due to injury, Ait Nouri still tops the charts among Wolves players for big chances created(3) and assists(3).
As we can see from the above stats, not only has Ait Nouri performed well among his compatriots, he is also up there with the best in the league on key stats. Not to forget, he only costs a mere £4.3.
Wolves take on Brentford in FPL GW23, a team that has struggled for goals in recent weeks. The Bees have scored just 9 goals in their last 10 matches, as opposed to 16 in their first 12 outings. Therfore the chances of Bruno Lage’s men keeping a clean sheet is high.
Pro Tip: Ait Nouri can be the fifth defender in your teams for the rest of the season. Wolves are reliable defensively and also have continuity in their team selection with no European distractions.
