Before going into the article, to make things clear, let us re-call a few rules related to FPL chip strategy.

  • If you use the free hit chip for a particular gameweek, your old squad(before playing the free chit chip) gets restored for the next gameweek.
  • You can use only one chip for a particular Gameweek.
  • One can’t use the Free Hit Chip in successive Gameweeks.

FPL Gameweek 23- Watford and Burnley Double Gameweek

Try to get in at least one of the Watford strikers- Dennis or King. Detailed comparison and analysis of Dennis vs King done here. There is no standout midfield and defense options from either sides.

FPL Gameweek 24- Transfer in Villa players(one or two) even for a hit.

Aston Villa are almost certain to get a Double Gameweek in GW24. Even if you don’t have the second free hit chip it would be a wise move to get in a Villa player. This is because they don’t blank in GW27 and GW30 too. They are one of the two teams along with Arsenal sure to have a game in GW30 as it stands.

Aston Villa’s Double Gameweek in GW24:

  • Leeds(H)
  • Leeds(A)/Burnley(H)

Villa have had two of their games postponed till now due to COVID- Leeds(A)/ Burnley(H). Since all the three teams- Villa, Leeds and Burnley are out of FA cup, Villa are almost certain to play one of these two teams for their second fixture in GW24.

Defensive numbers(rank) of Villa’s likely opponents in GW24:

TeamMinutes/xGCGoals ConcededShots conceded
Leeds54.8(18th)39(18th)309(18th)
Burnley61.3(15th)17(8th)289(16th)

Aston Villa’s fixtures from GW23:

Aston Villa’s amazing fixture run from GW23-GW30. Leeds/Burnley game is likely to be added to GW24.

It is not just the Double Gameweek to attack the Villa assets. They have great fixtures even after the Double Gameweek as they run into a great run of fixtures from GW23- Everton, Leeds/Burnley, Leeds, Newcastle, Watford, Brighton, Southampton, West Ham and Arsenal.

Some of the best Villa assets to target for the GW24 Double are Watkins(7.7), Ings(7.7), Coutinho(7.0), Ramsey(4.5) based on your squad structure. If you are looking to attack with a Villa defender, Digne(5.0) is the best option.

FPL Gameweek 24- Transfer out Chelsea assets

GW24 and GW25 is when Chelsea have successive Blanks Gameweeks due to Club World Cup commitments. This should be the best time to remove your Chelsea assets like Alonso(5.7), Rudiger(6.2) from your teams. The best direct replacements for Chelsea defenders should be City defenders and a double up is certainly a good option if you already have Cancelo(7.0). Laporte(5.6) has started all league games and completed 90 minutes in all games since GW15. City are the best defensive team in the league- Most clean sheets(13), Least Goals conceded(13), Best xGC(15.7), Least big chances conceded(19).

City’s fixtures till the end of the season.

It is to be noted that Arsenal are blanking in GW25 and GW27

FPL Gameweek 26- Triple Captain Chip on Salah

Salah Triple Captain GW26

Liverpool’s likely Double Gameweek in GW26:

  • Norwich(H)
  • Leeds United(H)

As it stands, Liverpool have Norwich(H) in GW26. But Liverpool have two games- Arsenal(A), Leeds(H) to be rescheduled again. Out of this Leeds United fixture is the one likely to be rescheduled in GW26 making it a spicy Double Gameweek option to Triple Captain Mo Salah. Considering the form of Salah this season and the defensive numbers of Norwich and Leeds, it should be a “no-brainer” to put the triple captain chip on Salah if the fixture gets confirmed.

Key stats to validate Salah for Triple Captain in GW26:

Salah tops the charts for every single attacking metrics for players this season- FPL Points(177), Shots(180), Shots on Target(38), Shots inside the box(65), Big chances(25), xG(15.40), Goals(16), xA(7.90), xGI(23.3), Goal Involvements(26) from just 20 games this season.

FPL Gameweek 27- First Free Hit Chip

Fixture planner chart from Legomane_FPL

Arsenal, Liverpool are sure to blank. Because either of the team reaches the finals of Carabao Cup and hence the fixture should move out from GW27. Chelsea and Leicester are also likely to blank in GW27 making Free Hit a good option for GW27. By GW27, Most teams would be stuck with Salah, Trent and Jota(due to likely double in GW26) and it would be difficult to bench them or remove them for a week and get them back. Another exciting thing about Free Hitting in GW27 is there are plenty of good fixtures to attack for points.

Fixtures to attack in Free Hit GW27:

  • Everton vs Manchester City- De Bruyne(12.1), Cancelo(7.0), Laporte(5.6), Foden(8.0)
  • Manchester United vs Watford- Ronaldo(12.5), Dennis(6.1)
  • Crystal Palace vs Burnley- Gallagher(6.1), Edouard(6.4)
  • Southampton vs Norwich- Broja(5.2), Perraud(4.8)

FPL Gameweek 30- Second Free Hit Chip

GW30 has to be the biggest blank in FPL as FA Cup Quarter Finals take place.

Current FA Cup Scenario:

FA Cup Quarter Finals are scheduled to take place in GW30. As it stands 14 Premier League teams are there in the Round of 32. Among these teams only 4 teams are up against each other(Everton vs Brentford and Wolves vs Norwich). This means that it is likely that 12 Premier League teams make the Round of 16 assuming there are no upsets from lower division teams. So, now this makes a case for plenty of blanks during GW30 when the FA Cup Quarter Finals take place.

Confirmed Fixtures for GW30:

Aston Villa vs Arsenal(Both teams knocked out of FA Cup).

With only one fixture confirmed for GW30 as it stands and plenty of Premier League teams likely to reach the FA Cup Quarter finals, it makes perfect sense to play the Free Chit in GW30.

FPL Gameweek 31/ Gameweek 33- Wildcard

Gameweek 33 is when FA cup semifinals take place. From the above fixture ticker we can see that there is a free midweek after Gameweek 33. So GW33 is a places where few teams could blank, few teams could have Double Gameweek and few teams with single Gameweeks.

After GW30, there is an international break and FA Cup Quarter finals would have concluded. This means that before the GW31 deadline, we will know the 4 teams playing the FA Cup Semifinals in GW33 and can plan the wildcard in GW31 keeping GW33 in mind. Another option is to play the wildcard to navigate GW33 with a plan to attack with the Bench Boost Chip in GW36.

FPL Gameweek 36- Bench Boost

Traditionally GW36 is where bigger Double Gameweek take place. This might well be the best time to Bench Boost as we have enough time to plan the transfers on Wildcard/after Wildcard. By GW36 there’ll be better clarity about the postponed matches and their rescheduled dates. Accordingly, hits/planned transfers should put you in a better position to play Bench Boost in GW36. GW37 is when FA Cup Finals take place which might mostly not result in a blank gameweek as there are no free midweeks before and after. Free Hit can also be a good option in GW36.

It is to be noted that there may be still plenty of postponements due to Covid. This means that it is good to play the game with an open mind and adapt, be flexible to change your plans accordingly. Thanks for reading the article 🙂
