A long awaited week eyed up by managers to use their Wildcards is finally here! With the fixture turns for many teams, change in forms, and the emergence of premium defenders, this Wildcard has become a crucial one. With these low-owned, consistent players, the teams seem to be set and forget till around Gameweek 15. Also, the state of game right now is such, that every week appears to be a good one for Wildcard, so there isn’t any one “best week” to play the chip, but is subjective to each’s team. In this article, I will go through various points to be considered before as well as after hitting the button- FPL GW7 Wildcard.
Before going further, Do vote in this week’s FPL GW7 allaboutfpl captaincy poll. The same will be available in the captaincy analysis and metrics blog written by@AK_FPL1. The metrics has been delivering consistently with a 100% record this year. Last week the metric predicted Salah as the best captaincy candidate and he returned once again in GW6 with a goal. Stay tuned for the GW7 Captaincy metric to see who tops it. Link to all our FPL Gameweek 7 blogs.

The results and the captaincy metric blog will be published soon based on the votes.
Before going through Tips for a GW 7 Wildcard, let’s try and look for a better alternative for your team – between a GW7 Wildcard and a GW8 Wildcard:
GW7 Wildcard VS GW8 Wildcard
Currently, a lot of managers are debating whether to play their Wildcard chip in Gameweek 7 or Gameweek 8. While, both of the weeks have their own ups and downs, one might come across as better for some depending upon their teams. The common trend right now, with or without Wildcard is to get Chelsea and Manchester City players, which is causing their prices to sky rocket. Therefore, GW7 can be better in terms of catching those price rises, or to avoid getting priced out from the teams you might want the next week.
On the other hand, before GW8, there is an International Break, which can result in injuries, or any Covid/Quarantine related dubiety. Also, Man City face Liverpool this week making their assets less appealing for this particular week. However, after the Liverpool game, they face Burnley, Brighton and Crystal Palace in their next three. GW8 Wildcard also has an edge over GW7 as players like Sarr, Antonio have one great fixture this week before their fixtures take a turn for the worse, so they have high potential to deliver points this week. Therefore, for some, GW 8 could end up being a better one to play the Wildcard.
Now, let’s go through a few teams to target on this Wildcard
FPL GW7 Wildcard Teams to Target
Chelsea:
The one team that undoubtedly comes on top of the ticker is Chelsea. Under Tuchel, their performance has been impeccable, even against the tougher opponents. The GW7 fixture turn was eyed up by managers, even before the season had started. Also, they have the form as well, which makes it a perfect combination of fixtures and form! Marcos Alonso(5.9m) has been recording astonishing attacking stats. Also, Romelu Lukaku(11.7m) can become a must have over this run.
They are ranked first in the Fantasy Football Hub Fixture Ticker. They take on Southampton, Brentford, Norwich, Newcastle and Burnley in their next five, all of which are amazing fixture for Chelsea Assets to deliver FPL points. Also Lukaku could be one of the, if not the best captain options over this run, which makes him the best forward to own currently.

Manchester City:
Jack Grealish Cancelo
Except for the fact that Man City face Liverpool in GW 7, they are almost at par with Chelsea in terms of teams to target. They have been the best defence so far this season, with conceding only 2.2 xGC. To give context, the next best defence is surprisingly Everton’s at 6.1 xGC! Also, Dias and Cancelo, for now, appear to be safe from the Pep Roulette. The double up on City defence is also an option that should be considered on a Wildcard.
They face Burnley in GW 8, and then Brighton and Crystal Palace. There is potential for them to keep clean sheets in 4 of the next 6. Clean Sheets coupled with attacking returns (for Cancelo), Manchester City defenders are set and forget option till GW 13/14, barring any injuries (or Pep Roulette).
Arsenal:
Aubameyang Smith-Rowe
Arsenal have been able to turn things around from how they started the season. After their three straight losses, the have won three on the bounce. With some more great fixtures till GW11, players like Saka, ESR, Auba could prove to be amazing differentials, especially on a Wildcard.
Arsenal face Brighton, Crystal Palace and Watford in their next 6 games. They might be able to pick up from the glamorous 3-1 win against their North London rivals.
Other Teams to Target:
There are many teams, whose budget players can help fill up the remaining squad with. Brentford have been somewhat consistent this year and last week’s 3-3 draw against Liverpool, further proves the point. Players like Ivan Toney and Mbuemo, with their fixtures, could become the best value players in the game. Also, Southampton should not be ignored. Adam Armstrong, at 6.0m, is also someone to consider on a Wildcard. Therefore, playing around these teams on a Wildcard should be the strategy.
FPL GW7 Wildcard Players to Target
Jamie Vardy(10.4m):
The Leicester forward, Jamie Vardy has scored 3 goals so far this season, and has been creeping up on the list of players with highest xG. He takes on Palace, Brentford, Leeds and Watford in his next seven. Although, the first forward position is dominated by the likes of Ronaldo or Lukaku, Vardy can become a good option as the second striker. He has nPxG of 3.12 and an xA of 0.85. He is a clinical finisher and can score against any given team. If the Foxes are able to provide him with the service, he can easily cause mayhem.

Bukayo Saka(6.2m):
Saka after getting only few minutes in the first three Gameweeks, is now playing close to 90 minutes every game. Arsenal’s stellar performance against Spurs have made managers consider bringing in these underpriced gems. Saka And Smith-Rowe provide amazing value. A lot of people even started the season with one of, Saka or ESR, in their teams, however their abysmal performances and emergence of better assets led to some simple swaps. Now that Arsenal seems to be back on the track, Saka on a Wildcard could be a great option to own. He has recorded an xG of 1.04 and xA of 1.08 so far this season. His ownership is at just 8.5% currently, making him a great differential to have in your team.

Ivan Toney(6.3m):
Although Brentford face West Ham, Chelsea and Leicester as their next three, they have wonderful fixtures after that. Even West Ham and Leicester are prone to conceding against this Brentford team. Their 3-3 draw against Liverpool proved that they are here to stay, and in their good run, even a double up would make sense. Ivan Toney has been putting up incredible stats and also is a crucial player for Brentford. He has accumulated an xG of 1.73 and xA of 2.55 so far, with 5 Big Chances Created. At 6.3m, he would provide immense value, and therefore important on to look out for on a Wildcard.

Big at The Back Vs Three Premiums
The burning question for most managers planning to Wildcard is, whether to invest in Premium Defenders or, go all out on Three Premiums. A lot of people’s stance keep changing on this, as 3 weeks back when all premiums scored, three premium seemed like the way to go. However, as soon as one of those premiums blanked along with consistent points from defenders, convinced a lot of managers to go for Big at the Back. Let’s try and determine, which one would be better for your team:
Ruben Dias Marcos Alonso
Big at The Back offers a lot more value on paper. Also, the timing of this is such, that Chelsea’s and Manchester City’s good fixture run coincide to an extent. Going for Premium Defenders also allows to have a good playing bench which can always come in handy. There are a lot of mid-priced midfielders and forwards, which managers can’t keep along with three premiums. Four Defenders allow the team to have that flexibility. The defenders to own in this composition would be – Trent Alexander(if fit) + Cancelo + Rudiger + Ruben Dias/ Marcos Alonso + Livramento. This set-up would take around one-third of your team value.
Mo Salah Lukaku
On the other hand, the Three premiums, although takes up majority of the team value, gives managers an option to switch between various Premiums available. Mo Salah has definitely cemented his place as one of the premiums. His performance this season has been top drawer, and might as well end up becoming his best season. Other one, for now is Lukaku. So, a pinch of going different comes when you go for a third premium. Kevin De Bruyne could come into the fray as he is getting back form injury at a perfect time. Not to mention, players like Jamie Vardy and Aubameyang could also come good. There is a clear benefit in going for Three Premiums, besides the captaincy option and consistency they provide. One of the combinations could be – Salah + Lukaku + Vardy. However, weighing what’s better for your team is the key.

FPL GW7 Wildcard Draft Two
Draft I is without Trent Alexander, who has been ruled out for three weeks. Going without him is indeed a risk, but on a Wildcard, the aggressive strategy could be dropping him for now. The double up on Chelsea and City defenders as Big at the Back, is also a great differential, to gain some ranks. The Draft II can be considered a safer option, as it includes benching Trent until he comes back from injury (which might just be only one Gameweek). Jack Grealish has played every game so far in that City shirt. He might be the only attacker, who is not prone to the Pep Roulette along side KDB.
Conclusion
With a lot more injuries unveiling, the Wildcard is becoming more and more appealing. Trent, Shaw, Ayling are expected to miss their games this week. Therefore, along with the fixture swings, the added benefit of the Wildcard would be getting rid of these injured players immediately. However, going for a balanced team here is the key, and not get too many players only for the short run. Also, keeping in mind the fixtures, the team might not require many major changes till around Gameweek 15. Good Luck for the season ahead!
