FPL GW7 Watchlist – Stand Out Players Who Impressed In GW6

Another gameweek has breezed past us with a lot of twists & turns. Some surprising results as well with Manchester United losing, Liverpool held to a draw, Chelsea’s toothless display against Manchester City & a not so surprising woeful display by Spurs. Also, what a disappointment from the most captained player “Ronaldo”, partly facilitated by Bruno taking the penalty!

Interestingly a midweek of European football follows before we head into GW7. So, if you are planning to bring in players from teams active in those competitions, I suggest you to hold those transfers for possible injury or rotation news. So, without further ado, let’s take a look at some players that caught our eye in GW6 in our weekly FPL Watchlist article with a possibly good fixture in GW7. Also, remember that the international break kicks in after GW7, which gives us ample time to plan our strategy going forward.

Before going further, Do vote in this week’s FPL GW7 allaboutfpl captaincy poll. The same will be available in the captaincy analysis and metrics blog written by@AK_FPL1. The metrics has been delivering consistently with a 100% record this year. Last week the metric predicted Salah as the best captaincy candidate and he returned once again in GW6 with a goal. Stay tuned for the GW7 Captaincy metric to see who tops it. Link to all our FPL Gameweek 7 blogs.

The results and the captaincy metric blog will be published soon based on the votes.

FPL GW7 Player Watchlist based on their GW6 Performance

Jamie Vardy – 10.4m fwd, 12.6% owned

FPL GW7 Watchlist- Vardy

GW6 performance: 11 points (2 goals)

Vardy is just like the good old wine – just gets better with age. He’s been carrying the Leicester team since their Premier League triumph season after season. Give him a yard of space & he’ll definitely bury any chance in goal. He’s been one of the most lethal strikers in the league & even with an abundance of strikers this season with the likes of Ronaldo, Lukaku & Kane, he reminded us of his capabilities last GW. Interestingly, he’s the 2nd most scoring forward in FPL as well & has ticked along nicely. After scoring the unfortunate own goal, he made amends by single-handedly giving Leicester a chance in the game by scoring twice. He’s not a bad punt to consider going forward & definitely capable of scoring against anyone.

  • Goal attempts – 6
  • Shots inside box – 6
  • Shots on target – 2
  • Big chances – 2
  • Penalty area touches – 14 (most in GW6)
  • xG – 1.27

Next fixture: CRY (A)

Leicester have been a leaky defence this season & Crystal Palace could look to take advantage of this by playing on the front foot. Vardy is at his best when counter-attacking, so this should be a brilliantly poised match that could go either way. With a win both teams have the opportunity to get into the top half of the table.

Michail Antonio – 7.9m fwd, 43% owned

FPL GW7 Watchlist- Antonio

GW6 performance: 8 points (1 goal)

End to end stuff by West Ham & Leeds. Even with an injury ravaged squad, Leeds played as usual with full of energy. West Ham matched that intensity & with Antonio back in the team, looked hungry to score a hatful. If you are among the few that are still pondering on whether to get Antonio, sorry to say that you will have to get a sofa sooner rather than later. His goal involvement is insane & is a constant threat in all matches the Hammers have played until now. Another important facet is that his captaincy potential has increased & every GW he should definitely be in the top 5 captaincy options going forward. He is also becoming a Salah-esque kind of player who is definitely playable against any opposition.

  • Goal attempts – 7
  • Shots inside box – 6
  • Shots on target – 2
  • Big chances – 1
  • Chances created – 4
  • Big chances created – 1
  • Penalty area touches – 8
  • xG – 1.02

Next fixture: BRE (H)

Brentford are a good defensively organized team, but Liverpool split open their defence last GW. West Ham are one of the top 4 attacking teams this season & the front 4 will be a handful for The Bees. Antonio’s pace & strength should definitely cause a worry for the Brentford backline. He has scored double digit returns in the last 2 home games as well.

Bukayo Saka – 6.2m mid, 8% owned

FPL GW7 Watchlist- Saka

GW6 performance: 13 points (1 goal, 1 assist)

Arsenal seems to have got back their mojo & harassed Spurs with their pressing & attacking intent. Saka was at the heart of most things that Arsenal created & was very well deserving of his goal & assist. With no European competition to bother this season, it looks like Saka will play week in, week out. A slight concern could be if Pépé starts, but even then Saka with his versatility to play on the left as well as the right side, has proven that he is the best of the available midfielders at Arsenal. On his day he is close to being unplayable & with Aubameyang back in form, there is scope for more points going ahead. At his price point, he is a perfect replacement for those looking to shift out Sarr & Benrahma, both of whom have seemingly trickier fixtures.

  • Goal attempts – 2
  • Shots on target – 2
  • Big chances – 1
  • Chances created – 3
  • Big chances created – 1
  • Penalty area touches – 5
  • xG – 0.55
  • xA – 0.36

Next fixture: BRI (A)

Brighton are a good defence & breaking them down could be a treacherous ask. But the “revived” Arsenal have the capability to break through. Since GW4, they have turned a corner & rank 3rd for open play goal attempts, chances created & shots inside the box. Saka has been influential in that run as well. He might be a long term keep based on extended good fixtures till GW11.

Mason Greenwood – 7.7m mid, 17.5% owned

FPL GW7 Watchlist- Greenwood

GW6 performance: 2 points

Greenwood might seem to be an odd fit in this list after that performance from Man. United, but his stats against Villa were definitely encouraging. He occupied areas that we thought Ronaldo would be in & even shot more towards goal. What was lacking was his decision making in the final third. If he had been more alert, there were multiple clear opportunities to pass the ball to Ronaldo while in the box, rather than take wild shots at goal. Surely, Ole & his team mates would have given him an earful after ruing all those half chances. He was also the most forward United player. With Sancho still adapting to the league, his position should be safe for the time being. So if you own him, definitely keep for this fixture.

  • Goal attempts – 8 (most in GW6)
  • Shots inside box – 6
  • Shots on target – 2
  • Penalty area touches – 10
  • xG – 0.45

Next fixture: EVE (H)

Expect United to be reinvigorated by that shambolic performance against Villa. Hopefully Shaw is fit again for the match. Everton have conceded the 2nd most chances from set pieces away from home. Overall, based on the past 6 GWs they rank 3rd worst for crosses conceded & 7th worst for chances conceded from their right zone, where Shaw operates. Greenwood alongside Ronaldo attacking the centre & United’s right flank respectively, is a good bet to be at the end of those chances.

Hope you enjoyed the article. Look forward to your valuable comments & opinion. May your arrows be green!
