With the ever-changing dynamics in fantasy premier league, FPL Insights takes a look at some of the popular assets from the 5 gameweeks gone by and shares his thoughts on whether we should Hold, Sell or Buy them in this FPL GW6 Analysis blog.
Before going further, Do vote in this week’s FPL GW6 allaboutfpl captaincy poll. The same will be available in the captaincy analysis and metrics blog written by@AK_FPL1. The metrics has been delivering consistently with a 100% record this year. Last week the metric predicted Salah as the best captaincy candidate and he returned once again in GW5 with a double-digit haul. Stay tuned for the GW5 Captaincy metric to see who tops it. FPL GW6 Analysis: Players to Buy, Hold or Sell?
(Player prices, ownership percentages, and transfer INs/OUTs change live. The quoted numbers may differ with the actuals when you read the article)
Diogo Jota – Hold
Jota gained a lot of popularity in GW4 after Firmino (8.8m) got injured playing against Chelsea (in GW3). With fixtures against Leeds (in GW4) and Palace (in GW5), it was a well-analyzed move by the FPL community which, unfortunately, did not pay off.
He blanked in both gameweeks earning only 6 points in the process. Over 100k managers have already shipped him out this week and their frustration is understandable.
Though is this the best time to sell him? In my opinion, it’s one week too soon to sell Jota, and here’s why:
1. Sustainable Underlying Stats
Despite his blanks in the last two gameweeks, Jota’s performance was not overly poor. He should, at the very least,
have scored one goal which aligns well with is expected points below.
Shots | Shots IB | Shots OT | xG | xPoints |
---|---|---|---|---|
7 | 5 | 1 | 0.6 | 12 |
2. Likely to start in GW7
Here’s the latest on Firmino from the Liverpool camp:
Bobby will do parts of team training but also not ready [for Tuesday]. But progressing well. (Sept 20th)
Unless we get positive updates on Firmino closer to the deadline, it’s unlikely he will start in GW7. Could at best
come off the bench towards the end of the match.
Considering the two points above, it’s not a bad idea to give Jota one more chance!

Heung-Min Son – Hold
Son has lost more than 85k owners post his blank against Chelsea, ahead of a good run of fixtures – ARS (A), AVL (H), and NEW (A)
The selling of Son has more to do with Spurs’ rustiness, as he is not the only Spurs player who is getting sold by FPL managers. However, if you have held him through his injury in GW4 or brought him just last week before GW5, it would not be the best idea to sell him right now.
Trent Alexander-Arnold – Hold
It’s flabbergasting to see Trent being the 4th most sold player this week. His transfer out count has surpassed the 150k mark and it’s just mid-week!
To add some context to the transfer activity, Trent missed GW5 against Palace due to illness that was not COVID-19 related. There could be no other explanation as Trent has been phenomenal so far this season!
Before the Norwich match, it was reported that he should be back in time for Saturday’s game against Brentford. So unless you are selling him as part of your transfer plan, he is an absolute hold for this GW, next GW, any GW!

Ferran Torres – Sell
Similar to Jota, Torres earned a lot of new owners (including myself) in GW4 – thanks to his 18 points against Arsenal.
But what followed next was hardly surprising. A 63 minutes cameo against Leicester (returning 3 points) and 0 minutes against Southampton, where City desperately needed a goal, was not the future we wanted for our GW4 buy.
It seems Pep is still figuring out who he wants to play in the #9 position. Could it still be Torres in the future? Possibly.
But, with the fixtures city have got ahead of them and some big names returning on the pitch, it’s best to wait and watch.
Sep 25th (GW6) | Sep 28th (UCL) | Oct 3rd (GW7) |
---|---|---|
Chelsea (A) | PSG (A) | Liverpool (A) |
City’s good run of fixtures starts from GW8 with a home game against Burnley, which is not until the second international break. It’s a bit too long to hold Torres without the certainty to start and the fixtures ahead.
I hate to say it but the search for a budget City starter is still on!

Mason Greenwood – Sell
Greenwood’s FPL appeal has taken a visible hit since the introduction of Ronaldo in the United line-up.
For starters, he is now been shifted to the right-wing from the striker spot. In most cases, that itself is a damping effect on the attacking threat. Below is a quick comparison on his per 90′ stats between GW 1-3 (right) and GW 4-5 (left)
He has seen a dip in all attacking stats except “attempted assists” which further resonates with his new role with Ronaldo on the pitch.
With some important and congested fixtures around the corner for United, OGS might look to rotate the squad. There is a good chance we might see a combo of Lingard (LW) and Sancho (RW) in a few PL games.
Sep 25th (GW6) | Sep 29th (UCL) | Oct 2nd (GW7) |
---|---|---|
Aston Villa (H) | Villareal (H) | Everton (H) |
Over 85k managers have already pulled the plug on Greenwood and it’s fair to consider offloading him.

Adama Traoré – Sell
All those stats for 11 FPL points! Here’s an interesting one – Traore is one of the ten mid-fielder/forward to have more shots than FPL points.
If we compare his stats among mid-fielders as of GW5, he sits joint 3rd on Key Passes, 3rd on penalty area touches, and 6th on Shots. But his accuracy in front of goal has been quite poor – joint 25th on SOT
On top of that, he is also shooting less from inside the box – 7 SIBs (joint 15th among mid-fielders)
Traore is a mixed bag of potential and disappointment. For those who can afford to spend a transfer on a mid-fielder swap, maybe it’s time to move on.

Ismaila Sarr – Buy
Despite his goal in GW1, Sarr had been going under the radar as late as GW5. His ownership before GW 5 deadline was around 5%. However, with 2 goals and 15 points in GW5 against Norwich, he has, understandably, seen a surge of owners and price.
Though if you are skeptical of his points sustainability, here are some underlying stats across GW1-5, which concur with his points tally (ranks among mid-fielders):
Shots OT | Shots IB | Big Chances | Importance to Team | Penalty area touches |
---|---|---|---|---|
9 (=2nd) | 11 (4th) | 4 (=3rd) | 45% (1st) | 31 (5th) |
If anything, he should have returned in a GW or 2 more! On top of this, he faces Newcastle and Leeds in the next two gameweeks, who are two of the weakest defenses.
If you are considering buying him, he has great stats and short-term fixtures!
Let us know in the comments below what are you doing with the above players and who are you buying this week!
