Where The Points Are Located in GW1 | Gaffr Championship Fantasy

Welcome to my second article for All About FPL, following on from my first article about What is Gaffr? In the upcoming article, I will look down through the first round of matches for the EFL Championship and try to assess where the Gaffr points will come from in GW1.

AFC BOURNEMOUTH:

We got a taste of how the people at Gaffr HQ see AFC Bournemouth for the upcoming season, by pricing Dominic Solanke at 11.0. That shows that Bournemouth will potentially be the Manchester City or Liverpool this season, from the side that have stayed in the Championship for the upcoming season.

Another player from Bournemouth on my mind for my initial draft is Arnaut Danjuma. A caveat with Danjuma is that he is being rumored to be on the move to a Premier League side, Leicester City being one of the interested parties. In terms of numbers, Arnaut Danjuma finished last season on 224 points overall and priced 6.8. A price increase is definitely on the cards if you ask me.

NOTTINGHAM FOREST:

Gaffr GW1 ~ Chris Houghton

With Nottingham Forest, I wanted to pick a differential team to choose from for GW1. It will be Chris Houghton’s first full campaign in charge of Forest and I am expecting good things. Gaffr managers if Notts Forest get off to a good start playing Coventry City in GW1 as how they were priced from last season. Looking down through the team sheet, I see a lot of kindly priced players to choose from.

One player specifically is the Portuguese international Cafu. Cafu played 18 matches overall and scored 73 points in Gaffr last season. I expect Cafu to kick on this season and a great opportunity is Coventry in the first game for a possible brace. If you are looking for a younger player that could possibly take Nottingham Forest by the scruff of the neck is Sam Yates. The 23-year-old is touted by me to improve and kick on this season, for perspective in Gaffr last term, he scored 92 points and finished 5.7.

HULL CITY:

Of course there are no Gaffr stats for the promoted teams from League One, but we will try to showcase one or two players for Hull City. One player is George Honeyman. Anyone who has followed Sunderland between 2015 and 2019 when they were in the Premier League will know about the 26 year old. He played a total of 83 appearances and scored 12 goals. When he debuted for Sunderland, Manager Gus Poyet admitted that Honeyman would have been put on earlier had the team not had injury concerns, admitting that “George would have been coming on earlier because we needed a bit of his running between the lines and ability to make runs”.

A striker option for Hull City in the Championship looking through the squad for me is Malik Wilks who hails from Liverpool. The Liverpool native can play as both a winger and a striker, a very durable option for Gaffr managers. In a loan spell and signing a full time contract with Hull so far, he made 62 overall appearances and scored 24 goals. The question will be can he take that on into the EFL Championship.
