2021/22 FPL Season: Wildcard Chip Explained | FPL Guide

Fantasy Premier League provides managers with “chips”, a series of handy but limited tools to help players boost their scoring. These chips are extremely valuable. Number of chips provided by FPL are – two Wildcards, one Bench Boost, one Free Hit and one Triple Captain chip. Only one of these chips can be used in a given Gameweek. These chips are very valuable and you should give a lot of consideration as to when is best to use them. Timely and successful use of chips can add substantial points and can create a difference to your overall rank. We’re going to talk exclusively on FPL Wildcard in this blog.

What is Wildcard in FPL?

Wildcards basically offer you the chance to completely re-design your squad. There are basically two Wildcards given by FPL. Your first Wildcard should be utilized distinctly in the primary portion of the season and the second Wildcard in the subsequent half.

A lot of managers utilize their first Wildcard in Gameweeks 3-7 whenever they have seen the lay of the place that is known for the new season and need to change appropriately, other managers whose teams are still in good shape may wait closer to the midpoint to freshen things up. Second Wildcards are regularly best used to help capitalise on easily around double Gameweeks (DGWs – two or more teams play twice in one Gameweek) and blank Gameweeks (BGWs – two or more teams don’t have a fixture in that Gameweek), which ordinarily happen later in the season.

The first wildcard will be available from the start of the season until Tue 28 Dec 19:00. The second wildcard will be available after this date in readiness for the January transfer window opening and remain available until the end of the season. The Wildcard chip is played when confirming transfers that cost points and can’t be cancelled once played. Also, when you’re playing your Wildcard, any saved free transfers will be lost. You will be back to the usual 1 free transfer the following Gameweek.

Why FPL GW7 is a good wildcard time in the 2020/21 FPL Season?

Fixture Swings – As you take a look at the fixtures of Manchester United and Chelsea Fixtures, there is a sudden rise in difficult fixtures for Manchester United and exactly the opposite for Chelsea. This might be a good opportunity to use the Wildcard to shift your team from double United to double Chelsea. There are also other fixture swings to target like Leeds and Manchester City. What is the Alternative?

There is an early prediction that there might be a Blank Gameweek for Chelsea in GW 17/18 due to the Club World Cup, so you can also use your first WC to target these.
