Best FPL Assets to Consider From Promoted Teams for 21/22 FPL Season

A new season of FPL is upon us and that means three teams have been promoted from the championship to the premier league in the place of three relegated teams. The clubs that gained promotion for the 2021/22 FPL season are Norwich City, Watford FC, and Brentford. The three clubs have different playing styles, experience in top-flight football with Norwich and Watford being household names whereas Brentford are the new boys in the Premier League. In this blog let’s take a look at the best FPL assets from the promoted teams ~ Norwich, Watford, and Brentford.

Best FPL Assets from promoted teams ~ Team-wise analysis

🔰 NORWICH CITY FC 🔰

After going down in the 2019/20 season, Norwich stuck with their manager Daniel Farke and they were rewarded with yet another promotion. They accumulated 97 points in 46 Championship matches last season scoring 75 goals and conceding only 36 times. This time they’ve come up with much better defense and a year of experience in the PL by their head coach and many of their players should really help.

They need to make some key signings if they want to stay in the Premier League, most notably finding a perfect replacement for Emi Buendía is really important for them. Buendía has been their chief creator for the last 3 seasons and finding a replacement for him won’t be an easy task. They’ve already made some other key signings though, recruiting the likes of Milot Rashica, Billy Gilmour, and Pierre Lees Melou so far…

📝TEAM TACTICS(FORMATION):-

Daniel Farke’s preferred formation is 4-2-3-1. The Canaries played with that formation for 45 of the 46 Championship matches last season.

📝STYLE OF PLAY:-

Daniel Farke’s principles of play are not only reliant on possession and width but quick transitions, geggenpressing, counter-pressing, and simultaneous verticality. Norwich like to press from the front, keep as much possession of the ball as possible and play out from the back. They averaged 58.3% ball possession in their matches in the Championship last season.

While pressing, their attacking midfielder frequently pushes up alongside the striker in a 4-4-2 formation but may also sit back in a more traditional 4-2-3-1 shape to track the defensive midfielder of the opposition. The fullbacks also push up very high in the press. Player’s movements are really important in their style of play.

📝FPL ASSETS to Consider from Norwich City for the 2021/22 FPL Season

1) Teemu Pukki (£6m FWD)

Temmu Pukki ~ FPL promoted team players to watch out for in 2021/22 FPL Season

Norwich’s star man has had yet another great season in the Championship helping them to secure promotion. He scored 26 times and provided 4 assists in 39 starts last term. His sharp movements and his ability to latch on to through balls and finishing them more often than not are some of the key attributes to his play. Pukki scored 35% of his team’s goals last season. The Finnish center forward got 38 goal involvements in the 2018/19 Championship season, the last time Norwich secured promotion and scored 11 goals in the Premier League the following season. Norwich’s main man only costs £6m in FPL and when the right time comes don’t forget to join the Pukki party!

2) Todd Cantwell (£5.5m MID)

Todd Cantwell ~ FPL promoted team players to watch out for in 2021/22 FPL Season

Cantwell broke into the scene during Norwich’s last PL season 2 years back where he scored 6 goals and provided a couple of assists. Having attracted interest from several top clubs last season, Cantwell decided to stay at Norwich and probably did the right thing. He has a more guaranteed playing time in this club and having not started as much as he would’ve liked last season he still managed to get 6 goals and 6 assists. Not huge numbers by any means but Buendía’s departure could mean he has more responsibility on his shoulders now to create and score goals for his club. Norwich have signed Rashica from Werder Bremen, he generally plays on the left but could play on the right if Norwich doesn’t sign Buendía’s replacement.

3) Max Aarons (£4.5m DEF)

Max Aarons ~ FPL promoted team players to watch out for in 2021/22 FPL Season

The England U21 International had another wonderful campaign with Norwich, helping them to secure promotion for the 2nd time in 3 years. Aarons has really become one of the vital cogs of this Norwich team having missed only one game due to injury in the Championship last season. The 21-year-old right-back bombs forward with purpose and his stats suggest that he is one of the £4.5m defensive options to keep an eye on.

📝ONE Norwich City FPL Asset TO KEEP AN EYE ON 👀

♦ Kieran Dowell (£5.5m MID)

Kieran Dowell ~ FPL promoted team players to watch out for in 2021/22 FPL Season

Dowell only made 12 starts in the whole of Championship last season but 9 of those starts came in the last 10 games. He scored 5 goals and provided 1 assist in the league last season. He also created 5 big chances which shows he is very creative. He has the number 10 jersey so he should start most games I think. Another key to his value is that he is on set-pieces as well. One of his 5 goals came from a direct freekick. Only owned by 0.2% of FPL managers currently, the opening 4 fixtures are tough but if you want to take a punt from the off, he is a great differential to have in your FPL team.

🐝 WATFORD FC 🐝

Watford earned their promotion having finished as runners-up in the Championship last season. The Hornets were particularly very solid at the back, only conceding 30 goals and keeping 23 clean sheets in the entire campaign. Watford’s home form was way better than their away form. After Xisco Muñoz’s appointment as head coach in the 21st of December last year, the Hornets went on to concede only 3 goals in 13 matches at home, keeping 13 clean sheets in the process.

📝TEAM TACTICS(FORMATION):-

Xisco started in a 4-4-2 formation but after 8-9 games he changed to a 4-3-3 formation and it instantly brought huge success as they thrashed Bristol City 6-0 at Vicarage Road in the second week of February earlier this year.

📝STYLE OF PLAY:-

Xisco’s positivity, optimism, and personality lifted the mood of the club when he joined. His organization and an attacking style of play are some of the key attributes of his style of play.

📝FPL ASSETS to Consider from Watford FC for the 2021/22 FPL Season

1) Ismaila Sarr (£6m MID)

Ismaila Sarr ~ FPL promoted team players to watch out for in 2021/22 FPL Season

Sarr had a very good first season in the Championship where he scored 13 goals and provided 4 assists. With 13 goals, he was Watford’s top scorer last season and is his club’s most dangerous man going forward. The Senegalese right-winger also took 2 penalties and converted both of them which suggests he could be on penalties when Deeney is not on the pitch. Watford’s first 7 fixtures look very good from an attacking point of view so at £6m and with only 7.6% ownership at the moment, Sarr could prove to be an excellent differential in your FPL team.

❎ Big chances missed: 4
💥 Penalties won: 5
🎯 Penalties converted: 2/2

2) Daniel Bachmann (£4.5m GK)

Daniel Bachmann ~ FPL promoted team players to watch out for in 2021/22 FPL Season

Xisco(the Watford manager) handed Bachmann his first league start for the Hornets halfway through last season and the Austrian goalkeeper hasn’t looked back ever since then. He made 23 appearances in the Championship last season and kept 13 clean sheets, conceding only 13 goals in the process. The 27-year-old Austrian had a good Euros as well helping Austria to reach the Round of 16 for the first time in their European Championship history. He will be more busier in goal in the Premier League so could rack up lots of save points and with Watford’s good opening run of fixtures he is one of the £4.5m goalkeeper options worth considering in your FPL teams.

📊 STATS 📊

3) Josh King (£5.5m FWD)

Josh King ~ FPL promoted team players to watch out for in 2021/22 FPL Season

Watford signed Josh King from Bournemouth this summer. It will be very interesting to see whether he gets a start in the opening weekend or not against Aston Villa as Xisco is not short of options when he chooses his main striker this season because he has 10 strikers to choose from. With Deeney in the twilight of his career and with João Pedro still inexperienced in the PL stage, it could mean either Josh King or Emmanuel Dennis start up front for Watford. King’s move to Everton on loan last winter didn’t work out for him as he didn’t get much game time but he has loads of experience in the PL as we remember his time with Bournemouth where he scored 48 goals in the English top fight in the Cherries shirt.

📝ONE Watford FC FPL Asset TO KEEP AN EYE ON 👀

♦ Philip Zinckernagel (£5.5m MID)

Philip Zinckernagel ~ FPL promoted team players to watch out for in 2021/22 FPL Season

Zinckernagel signed for Watford in the January transfer window after having an outstanding season in Eliteserien with Champions Bodø/Glimt where he scored 19 goals and provided 18 assists in 28 games last season. Since joining Watford he has only started 9 games and made 11 sub appearances so it will interesting to see whether he becomes more of a guaranteed starter this season or not. Keep him on your watchlist for now.

🐝 BRENTFORD FC 🐝

Yes, Brentford finally ended their long wait to get promoted to England’s top division. They had to wait for 74 years but they’ve finally done it! After losing 9 successive Playoff finals and wondering will they ever get to play in the top flight, well, yes last season they defeated Swansea in the Playoff Final to book their place to play in the Premier League for the first time in their history.

📝TEAM TACTICS(FORMATION):-

Thomas Frank played the 4-3-3 formation thirty-seven times in the Championship last season but changed to 3-4-1-2 formation towards the end of the season.

📝STYLE OF PLAY:-

The Bees play with a high tempo, high intensity, high press, and high line. They are a very attack-minded outfit and loves to have possession of the ball. Once they lose possession they work very hard to win the ball back as soon as possible. They scored 79 goals with an xG of 82.14 in the Championship last season which is the most in that division. They are a very well-drilled side indeed!

📝FPL ASSETS to Consider from Brentford FC for the 2021/22 FPL Season

1) Ivan Toney (£6.5m FWD)

Ivan Toney ~ FPL promoted team players to watch out for in 2021/22 FPL Season

Toney had an outstanding season with Brentford in the Championship scoring 33 goals and providing 10 assists. The 25-year-old Englishmen signed for Brentford last season and made an instant impact with the Bees’, finishing as the top scorer in the 2020/21 Championship season. He took and scored all 9 penalties and is the main penalty taker for this team. Those who played the GAFFR Fantasy game last season know he’s a legend! I think Toney is the best option out of all the fantasy assets from the 3 promoted clubs.

2) Bryan Mbeumo (£5.5m MID)

Mbeumo has had two back-to-back cracking seasons in the Championship scoring 23 goals and providing 17 assists in total combined. The link-up play between him, Canós, and Toney are really vital to Brentford’s hopes this season. You might remember the famous BMW combo which tore apart the Championship two seasons back, Bryan Mbeumo was the “M” in that combo! The other two were Benrahma and Watkins who joined West Ham and Aston Villa respectively last season. Again, he’s nailed on to start and if you don’t want to own Toney but want to have a Brentford attacker in your FPL team then Mbeumo is your man!

3) David Raya (£4.5m GK)

David Raya ~ FPL promoted team players to watch out for in 2021/22 FPL Season

The 25-year-old Spanish goalkeeper has been superb in goal for Brentford for the past couple of seasons since signing from Blackburn Rovers in the summer of 2019. The Bees’ number 1 kept 32 clean sheets in the last 2 seasons combined, racking up 193 combined saves. He is one of the £4.5m goalkeeper options worth including in your plans while you select your FPL team.

♦ Sergi Canós (£5.5m MID)

Sergio Canos ~ FPL promoted team players to watch out for in 2021/22 FPL Season

After Benrahma’s departure last season, Canós became more of a regular starter in the left-wing for the Bees and he didn’t disappoint his manager at all. He went on to have a very good season, scoring 9 goals and assisting 8 times in 46 league appearances (33 starts). It will be really interesting to see whether Brentford make some signings to bolster their attack or whether Canós stays as a starter for them.
