GW9 proved to a good week for most FPL managers with popular picks returning big. But we have another game week around the corner to look forward to as we head into a crucial set of GW’s. There’s a lot of question on the minds of FPL managers right now whether or not to bring back salah immediately, what to do with Kane/son, Should we prioritize city assets based on fixture over form, and many more. In this preview blog, we discuss all of them in detail so fasten your seatbelt and jump right into our FPL GW10 preview
FPL GW10 Preview:
1. Mo Salah back- When is the right time to bring him in?
The most talked-about thing ahead of GW10 is obviously Mo Salah. More than one million managers transferred out Salah ahead of GW9 due to his unavailability which led to his price being dropped by 0.2 Mil. But he is back in Liverpool’s squad for the CL game and managers are pondering how to bring him in ahead of FPL GW10.
Salah’s next two FPL fixtures are against Brighton(A) and Wolves(H) before facing the vulnerable Fulham in FPL GW12. Salah’s away numbers are not that great compared to his fantastic home numbers(see below). Wolves are always a top defensive side which is suggested by their excellent numbers from GW4- GW9- 2nd best xGC(5.73), 2nd best xCS(2.35), Least goals conceded(2), Least shots conceded on target(13).
Salah Home vs Away stats last season(Stats per 90 mins):
- Goals- 0.86 vs 0.28
- xG- 0.73 vs 0.57
- Shots- 4.05 vs 4.20
- Big chances- 1.08 vs 0.76
- Points- 8.44 vs 5.86
It is actually not a big worry if you are not able to use your free transfer to bring in Salah ahead of FPL GW10. Salah is always a top FPL player no doubting that. Getting Salah for Son on a Free transfer looks to be a good move. But there is the doubt whether to bring him on priority right now by taking a hit or transferring out City assets. The best thing would be give Salah some more time to recover fully and strengthen your squad elsewhere. Bring him ahead of the tempting fixture against Fulham in GW12 and welcome him with the armband.
2. Manchester City attackers Dilemma- Buy, Sell or Hold
It is a frustrating own till now for managers holding the premium City assets in De Bruyne(11.6) and Sterling(11.5). City have not been able to get the goals and attacking numbers this season which is suggested by their numbers. City have 7 goals(14th), xG-11.22(8th), Big chances-13(8th) this season. This is such as big downgrade from staggering numbers they had last season- 102 Goals(1st), xG-99.04(1st), Big chances-141(1st) in the league.
City have excellent fixtures over the next few GWs- Burnley(H) and Fulham(H). Burnley have two clean sheets from the last 2 games but are yet to prove their mettle against bigger sides. Fulham have conceded the most big chances(23), second-worst xGC(17.23) this season. A fully fit City squad would look to get on these fixtures to get their season back on track.
This is a very tricky situation for Sterling/KDB owners in FPL especially if you want to bring in Salah. This is a very close call. But we would go with fixtures over form here and suggest you to hold on with Sterling/KDB despite the disappointing returns so far. It is that point of the season where you need to get right premiums at the right time and captain them. Hopefully, patience would be rewarded!
3. Impressive Chelsea Defense
Chelsea have getting better and better as a defensive unit this season. They have four cleansheets from the last 6 games and have just conceded one goal in the last 4 games. Chilwell’s presence has surely helped Chelsea to be stronger defensively.
Without Chilwell(GW1- GW3) vs With Chilwell(GW4-GW9):
- Big chances conceded/90 mins- 2.0 vs 0.67
- xGC/90 mins- 1.38 vs 0.68
- SiB Conceded/90 mins- 7.33 vs 4.5
- SoT Conceded/90 mins- 4.0 vs 2.33
Chelsea defensive numbers(GW4- GW9):
- 4 Big chances conceded(Best in the league)
- SIB conceded- 27(2nd best)
- SOT conceded- 14(2nd best)
- xGC- 4.07(1st)
- xCS-3.2(1st)
Chilwell has had a great start in FPL this season getting 48 points from 6 games averaging 8.0 points & returning each and every game. Maybe it is never too late to own Chilwell/Chelsea Defender if you don’t have them already.
4. Time to bring in Vardy and Leicester assets?
Leicester are once again performing well having won six out of their opening nine games. What makes the foxes an interesting team to watch out is that they have one of the best fixture runs over the next few weeks along with Man City. Leicester face Fulham, Sheffield, Brighton and Everton in the next four games.
The four teams that Leicester face next have so far kept a combined four clean sheets so far this season and that means Leicester’s attack is on high demand with last season’s golden boot winner Vardy being the most popular pick.
Vardy has so far scored eight goals and what makes him stand out is that he has the highest number of big chances(13) and tops the xG(7.82) charts so far this season. He has taken 11 shots and created four chances over the last four games, returning three goals and two assists in this period which is the highest goal contribution (5) by a forward in the last few four games.
Of course, penalties will be talked about when we mention Vardy. In the last four weeks, he has scored only one goal from penalty, and in fact he missed one against Wolves. But as a talisman and prolific forward one of the main advantages of owning Vardy is the fact that he’s on penalties and we have seen an increased number of penalties this season so there’s no reason to talk about it negatively.
Vardy also enjoys playing the smaller teams as much as he like the big games. Last season out of the 23 goals that he scored 20 of them were against opponents outside the top 6. So explosive returns are definitely around the corner.
Leicester next four opponents defensive record: Fulham - Most goals conceded(18), Most big chances conceded(23) Sheffield - Only team to not keep a clean sheet so far this season Brighton - Only two clean sheets so far this season Everton - 19 big chances and 16 goals conceded so far this season with just one clean sheet
Not just Vardy if you’re considering any other Leicester attacker then barnes is also another asset to consider. We’ll be talking about him more in the differentials blog that which will be up soon.
5. No stopping Bruno Fernandes
Bruno has been enjoying an electric start to the season so far and has been an FPL managers delight with 64 points in 8 games making him the third highest scoring midfielder. He has scored 40 points in just three away games so far and faces Southampton and West Ham away from home next.
Bruno was unlucky to have not returned big against West Brom having created two big chances and six key passes which is the highest total in one match across Europe’s top five leagues this season. He’s also in phenomenal form having created the most chances (26) in the premier league so far this season.
So if you brought him for Salah in GW9 do hold him without any doubts. He carried his rich vein of form into the champions league and got two goals. Bruno is pretty much carrying the united team having been involved in 9 of the 13 united goals so far this season and he’s most likely to be involved in any goal scored by united.
