FPL GW 9 Captain Picks to consider ahead of GW 9 Deadline | ALLABOUTFPL

FPL GW24- Bruno

The international break is finally over and everyone is relieved for its end. The break had us, managers, constantly checking up on which player contacted Covid-19 or picked up another injury and add to our worries. However, the international break has proved to be very unfortunate in terms of FPL and has weakened a lot of teams as a lot of key players face the consequences of the break. Let’s choose our team and captain pick wisely and try to get an advantage over our opponents. Here are our TOP 5 FPL GW 9 captain choices.

FPL GW 9 Captaincy Poll from our twitter page:

Bruno Fernandes vs WBA (H) TSB 25.9%

Bruno Fernandes FPL GW 9
Bruno is up against WBA at home making him automatically the best captain choice for GW 9

This man has been a consistent performer in a rather inconsistent Man United side. He had a truly world-class performance against Everton last game, scoring 2 and setting up Cavani selflessly when on a hattrick. He’s at 5 goals and 3 assists for United this season.

West Brom Albion have been very poor from the beginning and though have shown some fight, have conceded the most goals by a team with 17 goals scored against them. This is a great match for United to bounce back and they will be at their best with Bruno being the creative difference for them.

Bruno in numbers:

  • Second highest key passes made (20) so far this season
  • Twenty shots on goal, ten shots on goal, four big chances, three big chances created resulting in five goals and three assists. Talisman.

Timo Werner vs Newcastle (A) TSB 24.3%

Timo Werner FPL GW 9 Captain Pick
Werner will look to continue his goal scoring run

Germany and Chelsea Talisman Werner had a relatively slow start to the season, although he played well and out of position, his numbers weren’t great but they have picked up and he’s now on 4 goals and 2 assists in 8 games which are great numbers for a debut season in the PL

Newcastle have conceded 13 goals so far and do not look adept defensively. With Hakim Ziyech at his creative best for Chelsea and Werner on penalties, there are all the more chances for him to be among the goals and he should be a safe choice for captain.

Werner stat attack:

  • Newcastle have conceded the most shots on target so far this season (53)
  • Werner has the second most penalty box touches (47) amongst forwards this season.

Dominic Calvert Lewin vs Fulham (A) TSB 57.2%

DCL FPL GW 9 Captain Pick
Mr Consistent DCL

He started the season on fire and has scored in all but 2 matches he’s played in. Carlo Ancelotti’s men have faced a slump in form owing to injuries and untimely suspensions. But the return of his strike partner Richarlison and James Rodriguez behind him should give him a big boost. After all, these two players did well for their international teams as well during the break.

DCL has 8 goals and 1 assist in 9 games and has returned in all but 1 game. Fulham have conceded 15 goals and are defensively weak and it shows in their game. He will look to go up on the golden boot ranking again and make it his and this fixture should give us enough hope to captain him.

DCL in numbers:

  • Second most big chances in the league so far this season with 9.
  • Second highest shots on target with 14 SOT just one behind Kane who has 15 shots on target.
  • Third highest xG(5.20) amongst forwards so far this season. Highest NPxG so far this season.

Jamie Vardy vs Liverpool (A) TSB 22.1%

Vardy FPL GW 9 Captain pick
Jamie Vardy

Jamie Vardy has always been feared by the big teams and he has shown the past seasons how dangerous he can be in big games. At the same time last season, no one would’ve captained a player against Liverpool but now they look very bad defensively. Jamie Vardy has quietly scored 8 goals and assisted 2 more for the foxes including a hattrick against Man City.

Liverpool have conceded an embarrassing 16 goals which is the second-highest in the league. They have Van Dijk out on a long term injury and even Joe Gomez joins him on the sidelines. They are weakened at the back with Covid injuries rattling them and Leicester will look to cement their place at the top of the table with a win against Liverpool and Jamie Vardy will be the man to bank on.

Jamie Vardy numbers:

  • Vardy has had the most big chances (12) in the league so far this season.
  • Jamie Vardy had seven goals and an assist in the 11 times he has played Liverpool.
  • Leicester have so far won the most number of penalties(8) so far this season and this trend looks to continue.

Jack Grealish vs Brighton (H) TSB 36.6%

Jack Grealish FPL GW 9
Super Jack has been simply unstoppable

Jack Grealish has been a standout player for Aston Villa this season and is in red hot form. Alongside new signing Ross Barkley and Ollie Watkins, he’s running the show for Villa and has scored 4 and assisted a further 6! That’s 10 goal involvement in 8 games despite blanking 3. He’s the 4th highest scoring player in the game with a whopping 60 points tally from seven games.

Aston Villa have managed to score a whopping 18 goals in 8 games including 7 against the defending champions. On the other hand, their opponents have been very inconsistent, conceding 14 goals and keeping only 2 clean sheets. Grealish will surely be involved in any goals from Villa’s side and should be trusted with the captain’s armband this week.

Jack Grealish in numbers:

  • Second most touches in the penalty box amongst all players so far this season with 70 touches.
  • Six big chances created which is the highest amongst midfielders. 19 key passes which is the third-highest only behind the likes of Salah, KDB, and Bruno who have 21 and 20 each respectively.
  • Second most shots on goal (22) amongst midfielders so far this season.
  • Second Highest xA(3.45) and Assists(6) only behind Kane who has an xA of (4.64) and Assists(8).
