It’s been a while since we have had FPL action and our FPL memories is probably as rusty as our FPL defense right now. But do not worry, you’re at the right place as we cover some of the best FPL defenders to consider ahead of FPL GW30+ deadline that’s approaching us.
Since all of us working with unlimited transfers or Free hit. We have classified FPL defenders to consider ahead of FPL GW30+ into three categories
- Premium Defenders (5.5 Mil+)
- Mid Range Defenders (4.5 Mil – 5.5 Mil)
- Budget Defenders (<4.5 Mil)
Premium FPL Defenders to consider ahead of FPL GW30+
1. Matt Doherty Price: 6.3 Mil TSB: 8.8%
Fixtures: West Ham(A), Bournemouth(H), Aston Villa(A), Arsenal(H),
Matt Doherty has been a revelation for Wolves especially in the last five game weeks with the wolves fullback registering 3 attacking returns(one goal + two assists) and also kept four clean sheets in the same period resulting in 40 points in the last five GW’s, which is 8 PPG (points per game)
Wolves are sixth in the table and are just 5 points of CL places and have got everything to play for, so any doubts of rotation is effectively ruled out. Wolves immediate next 3 games are winnable and their only potential difficult fixture is against Chelsea away from home. Adding on to that, they are still to play 3 of the bottom 5 teams. Still not convinced, Doherty has the highest penalty box touches, shots in the box, or big chances than any other FPL defender this season.
If you’re out of funds or looking for a cheaper route into wolves defense, Wily boly(4.8) is the one you need to consider Since Boly came back from injury, Wolves have kept 4 clean sheets in 5 games. In one of the games Boly scored a goal which was unfortunately ruled out for offside. Boly is a goal threat and Wolves have a quality set-piece taker too in Moutinho.

2. Aymeric Laporte 6.3 Mil TSB: 2.3%
Fixtures: Arsenal (H), Burnley(H), Chelsea(A), Liverpool(H)
Laporte is coming back from injury and is one of the safest city assets to consider as he is likely to start both games in DGW 30+. Man City have lost 7 games this season, and Laporte has missed them all. Adding on to that, City have kept 5 clean sheets in 7 games with Laporte in the starting eleven and 5 clean sheets in 22 games without him. The last time City had a DGW Laporte was the highest point scorer scoring twenty points.
If you’re considering one from city defense then Laporte is the safest option and we would prefer Laporte over Ederson due to the goal threat that he offers.

3. Marcus Alonso Price: 6.2 Mil TSB: 4%
Fixtures: Aston Villa(A), West Ham(H), Man City(A), Watford(H)
Alonso has scored four goals and recorded three assists in spite of the fact that he has started just 10 games this season and has recorded a goal/assist or a CS every 72 mins the best out of all defenders. Chelsea are up against Aston Villa in FPL GW30+ who have recorded the fewest CS and conceded the most shots(506) this season. Alonso could very well be a cheeky differential with just 4% ownership.
We aren’t going to mention about a certain Trent Alexander Arnold, owned by 44% of managers TAA has been in splendid form this season having registered 166 points with 16 attacking returns(2G+14A). So if you have him in your team, hold him as Liverpool are still looking to wrap up the season by bringing home the elusive PL title.
That’s our 3 Premium defender options. Moving on to Mid-range defenders!
Mid Range FPL Defenders to consider ahead of FPL GW30+
1. George Baldock Price: 5.1 Mil TSB:11.6%
With all the limelight on Lundstram, another Sheffield defender who has gone under the radar is Baldock. The blades fullback has recorded 115 points making him the seventh-highest scoring defender with 6 attacking returns so far this season. Baldock also has 16 Goals+Assists+CS so far, just one shy of Lundstram. Considering there isn’t a FB to rotate and a DGW coming up Baldock could be a great option.
If you’re looking to double/triple up on Sheffield defense ahead of FPL DGW30+ John Egan (£4.6), Jack O’Connell (£4.7), and Enda Stevens (£5.2) are good options to consider. Egan and Jack O’Connell are up against Aston Villa and Newcastle who are top of the league for attempts conceded from set plays for the season. The Sheffield CB’s might fancy a goal from set-piece definitely.

2. Harry Maguire Price: 5.3 Mil TSB: 10.8%
Fixtures: Tottenham (A), Sheffield United (H), Brighton (A), Bournemouth(H)
Manchester United’s defensive record has been ever-improving with 50% of the CS coming in the last 5 games and Harry Maguire has played a key role, the towering CB has helped united keep 4 CS in the last 5 games and also scored against Chelsea in GW26 registering 15 points including 3 bonus points.
After spurs in GW30+, Man Utd have the easiest set of fixtures out of all PL teams and a string of CS is definitely around the corner. Now with Bruno Fernandes in set-piece duty, Maguire’s towering presence could fetch a few goals too and it is really hard not to consider him.
Man Utd full-back Aaron Wan Bissaka too is priced at 5.3 Mil and could be a good option considering his attacking output has been ever-improving and as we all know he’s a bonus point magnet with six bonus points in Man Utd’s last five games.
3. James Justin Price: 4.7 Mil TSB: 0.2%
Fixtures: Watford(A), Brighton(H), Everton(A), Crystal Palace(H)
Now that Ricardo Pereira is set to miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL. James Justin could be a viable option and great budget enabler as Leicester City’s only other RB, with a live ownership of just 0.2% and some favorable fixtures coming in Leicester’s way you could get some differential points from Justin as Brendan Rodgers men look to seal their champions league spot for next season.

4. Federico Fernandez Price: 4.7 Mil TSB: 3.1%
Fixtures: Sheffield United(H), Bournemouth(H), Aston Villa(A), West Ham(H)
Newcastle have the most favorable fixtures in the bottom half with three home games against struggling oppositions in the next four GWs. It is to be taken into consideration that Newcastle have conceded the joint-lowest number of goals in home matches in 2019/20.
Fernandez could be a very good option with the Newcastle defender having a knack of scoring goals and registering bonus points, the magpies defender is the third in the bonus points list amongst defenders this season and could offer good returns in the next four games.
One of the best differential choices for a cheaply priced defender is Newcastle United’s, Jamaal Lascelles. Newcastle have managed to keep 9 clean sheets this season 7 of which have come under Lascelles’s start.

That’s our 4 Mid-range defensive options. Moving on to budget defenders!
FPL Budget Defenders to consider ahead of FPL GW30+
1. Mason Holgate Price: 4.3 Mil TSB: 1.9%
Fixtures: Liverpool(H), Norwich(A), Leicester(H), Spurs(A)
Mason Holgate(4.3) is one of very few players below the price bracket of 4.5 mil to be a nailed-on starter. Everton don’t really keep a lot of clean sheets. But, Holgate already has 4 assists this season. But most importantly he could be the best asset as a fifth defender in your sides.
2. Charlie Taylor Price: 4.3 Mil TSB:2.4%
Fixtures: Man City(A), Watford(H), Crystal Palace(A), Sheffield United(H)
The Burnley left-back is one of the cheapest starting defenders available in FPL. Taylor has played the full 90 minutes in each of the previous 12 Gameweeks. Burnley have kept a clean sheet in seven of the 15 matches Taylor has started, compared with four in 14 fixtures without him. Six of their final nine opponents – Watford, Crystal Palace, Sheffield United, West Ham United, Norwich City and Brighton & Hove Albion – rank in the bottom 10 for goals scored. You could probably bench him for FPL GW30+ and then rotate him as Burnley fixtures ease after the city game.
3. Max Aarons Price: 4.3 Mil TSB: 1.3%
Norwich have conceded just 7 goals in the last 7 games, as opposed to 45 in the previous 22 games. The canaries have a very winnable set of home games coming up with 4 of Norwich ‘s next 6 games are against teams in the bottom half of the table. Max Aarons has been amongst the few limelights for Norwich with the English fullback recording the most big chances created by a Norwich player this season. He could be an ideal bench fodder 5th defender in your team.
